Jak Knight’s death sent shockwaves through Hollywood on Friday as word spread of his untimely passing at age 28.
Originally from Seattle and based in L.A., Knight was a regular on the stand-up stage and collected many admirers, friends and fans during a brief but bright career that included writing and voicing a character on Big Mouth, co-creating and starring in Peacock’s just-released Bust Down opposite close friends like Chris Redd and Sam Jay, and opening for stand-up legends like Dave Chappelle.
Below is a roundup of tributes and responses making the rounds on social media.
Rest In Peace Jak Knight. Hilarious comedian and a great guy. I can’t believe it.

Hilarious. Brilliant. Thoughtful. Those are just some of the adjectives being used to describe the relationships between Jak Knight and his many friends and family on social media as they react to his death.
Knight’s stunning death at age 28 was announced earlier today, shocking the Hollywood community who saw him as a star just coming into his own as a writer, producer and stand-up talent.
A few of the early reactions:
I don’t know what to say about Jak Knight that he wouldn’t make fun of me for. But you were so incredibly loved and respected. There will never be anyone quite like you...

What? What did I just watch? I am now in need of an intervention, which is sort of ironic, given that that is topic of our latest review fare: Spy Intervention.
The premise is not entirely bad. Agent Corey Gage (Drew Van Acker) is a super spy, running Bond-style missions across the globe under the tutelage of dubious sociopath Smuts (Blake Anderson). Then he meets and falls in love with Pam (Poppy Delevingne). So he renounces the service, and courtesy of a little light mindwiping, settles down to a life of suburbia and track lighting while pursuing a career as a cardboard box salesman.
But then comes the intervention. Baddy Doyle Egan (Max Silvestri) is back and looking to obtain a weapon. Ok. No-one quite knows what it is. It might be a laser. Or a nuke. Or…whatever. But it’s bad. And a lot of people could get killed.

In the wake of declarations by President Donald J. Trump to bring “law and order” to the country, television’s cops are donating to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
With social media turning today into #BlackoutTuesday to amplify the voices of black people, TV actors who have played cops or detectives, including “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actress Stephanie Beatriz and “Blue Bloods” actor Griffin Newman, are urging others to make large donations of their residuals and salaries to the Emergency Response Fund.
Both of their Tweets emphasize urge creatives to donate: “If you currently play a cop? If you make tens of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop?” Beatriz and Newman each pledged over $10,000 to support various organizations.
This has spread to other people associated with cop and law enforcement series. “Law & Order: Svu” writer Celine Robinson gave $5,500. “Castle Rock...

Universal decided to stoke cat-scratch fever early and unleashed the first trailer for “Cats” upon an unexpecting public on Thursday instead of Friday. Was that a good idea? Who knows? But it just might be the weirdest darn movie musical ever. Maybe the weirdest movie ever, period.
Here is what your unbelieving eyes will see: Strangely humanoid felines that skitter across London cobble stones and leap through the city streets. They also pounce about in an ornately decorated home with chairs and utensils that are giant compared to the wee kitties on-screen.
SEEPut your life on paws and watch this featurette for ‘Cats’
A-list star bodies are made animal-like and adorned with weird skin-tight CGI fur as they walk about on two legs when they aren’t scampering. All the while Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella the Glamour Cat sob-sings “Memory” while the likes of Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Idris Elba,...

Kevin Spacey came under fire for a Christmas Eve video reviving his “House of Cards” antihero Frank Underwood and indirectly responding to the sexual misconduct accusations that derailed the actor’s career last year.
Actress Alyssa Milano called the “Let Me Be Frank” video “creepy” and the timing was especially awkward since it went online within hours of the announcement that the actor will face felony charges in a Massachusetts court early next month after an accusation of sexual assault and battery involving a teenager.
“There is literally no funny tweet that would get me to watch this Kevin Spacey video,” author and ‘Jeopardy!’ champion Ken Jennings tweeted on Monday.

If, back in July, you tore through all eight episodes of “The Comedy Lineup” and watched every 15-minute installment in quick succession, you’re in luck. Another set of sets is debuting pretty soon.
As with the first collection of quarter hours, this Part 2 features a variety of comedians. Each person from the lineup for Part 2 — Aisling Bea, Jr De Guzman, Janelle James, Josh Johnson, Matteo Lane, Max Silvestri, Kate Willett, and Emma Willmann — gets a short snippet of stage time in the official trailer below.
Amidst all the jokes about relationships, this sneak peek also borrows from some quick interviews with the comedians themselves that give a tiny extra window into each of their personalities. Before you catch them on stage, find out when most of them first fell in love (or at least in strong interest) with comedy.
Watch the full trailer (including some suspect dating advice) below:...

Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger have reached another milestone in their developing relationship – their first public fight. And the reparteé is ripe comedic material.
It all started when Oswalt responded to a tweet stand-up comic Max Silvestri posted on July 14 about the funniest joke writers on Twitter being the most “repulsive in person.” Oswalt counted himself in that category, responding with some scatological humor that just went beyond the pale.

Weed and comedy are good friends (they do share a mutual best friend: laughing), and they have been for a while now. But lately, the relationship between the two has been changing. So, for Stoner Week, Vulture asked comedians Jenny Slate, Gabe Liedman, and Max Silvestri to talk about the current state of pot in comedy, whether or not they write and/or perform high, and what a pothead is at this point. They also talk a lot about dog medication, as is their wont. Max Silvestri: Gabe and Jenny, friends, do you think pot is good for comedy? Gabe Liedman: I think that pot is good for some people’s comedy, for sure. Jenny Slate: Yeah, it’s not good for mine. It’s not good for me to smoke pot and get onstage. But it’s pretty cool for me to smoke pot and make internet videos.

On June 5, 2008, Big Terrific, a stand-up comedy show hosted by then-unknowns Jenny Slate, Gabe Liedman, and Max Silvestri, started in earnest in the back bar of the Williamsburg record store Sound Fix. Over the course of the next seven years (which included a venue change to Williamsburg's Cameo), Big Terrific emerged as the best comedy show in the city. Part of the success was the lineups, which have included the likes of Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock, and Aziz Ansari (Ansari in particular has appeared frequently), but mostly it was Jenny, Gabe, and Max, whose friendship created an inviting atmosphere, and whose individual comedy was so consistently hilarious and specific that you knew you were going to have a good time on any given Wednesday night. Sadly, Big Terrific is ending this week. Tonight is the last show at Cameo, and this Sunday, the trio will do two final...
