Most people know Rebecca Black from her viral video, “Friday,” but the singer is ready to move on from her reputation as a meme. From a debut album to a new relationship, Black is ready to become a legitimate music industry star.
How ‘Friday’ made Rebecca Black a viral star
Black was just 13 years old when “Friday” was released. The teen was an aspiring pop star and paid Los Angeles record label Ark Music Factory $4,000 to write and produce a single for her, as well as make a music video.
The video quickly blew up online, inspiring parody versions, late night television jokes, and a large amount of online vitriol directed at Black. There were some upsides to her overnight fame, though.

Today is Friday, so let’s check in with Rebecca Black.
If you stopped following the 25-year-old songstress after ‘Friday’ faded from the cultural zeitgeist, then you’ve missed one of the music industry’s most inspiring redemption arcs. More than 11 years after releasing “the worst song ever,” Black is back with her first LP — and the album is getting solid marks from critics and fans alike.
Black’s collection of ten atmospheric pop tunes is titled Let Her Burn. That name can be read as an allusion to all the hate Black received after she recorded “Friday” at age 13. The infamous track was written by the team at Ark Music Factory, but for her new album, Black is penning her own lyrics. She has a writing credit on all of Let Her Burn‘s tracks.
A lot has happened in Black’s life since ‘Friday’ hit its cultural zenith...

Glitz and glamour aren’t usually Rebecca Black’s go-to when building a visual world for her music. But taking Rolling Stone behind the scenes of the video shoot for her latest single, “Sick to my Stomach,” the singer strategically wields charming Eighties and Nineties aesthetics to frame a tale of jealousy with glimmering flare.
“I wrote this song after I ran into my ex and found out she was dating someone new – even though I was the one who didn’t feel that relationship going any further, that hurt more than anything,...

During an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Monday (26 September), the 25-year-old singer sang a cover of “Everytime” from Spears’s album In the Zone.
“Every time I try to fly I fall/ Without my wings/ I feel so small/ I guess I need you, baby/ And every time I see you in my dreams/ I see your face/ It’s haunting me/ I guess I need you, baby,” he sings on the chorus of the track.
“Everytime” was released as the third single from Spears’s fourth studio album.
Though the LP was released in 2003, the single itself was released on 10 May 200.
At the time, Spears’s song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Rebecca Black has recalled the shocking moment she claims she and her family were “scammed” into endorsing Mexico’s former president when she was 14 years old.
At the time, the now 25-year-old singer who rose to prominence in 2011 with her viral hit song “Friday”, was slammed for her seeming support of 2012’s Mexican presidential frontrunner Enrique Peña Nieto.
Nieto would go on to win the election, serving as the country’s 64th president from December 2012 to November 2018.
In a video posted on Sunday (25 September), the singer used the TikTok storytime trend to set the record straight with her side of past events.
Black began by recounting the moment her mother – a Mexican emigrant – was contacted by a “distant family relative”, who convinced her there was a “Rebecca Black fan club” in a small Mexican town who wanted to give Black “the keys to the city”.

“I Love My Dad” director, writer and star James Morosini kiss and tells about how he prepared for his bizarre makeout scenes with co-star Patton Oswalt.

Based on Morosini’s own true experience of being catfished by his dad, the new indie comedy stars Patton Oswalt as Chuck, a father who desperately tries to stay connected with his estranged son by posing as a woman online named Becca (Claudia Sulewski). The internet is not happy right now, but it’s amused. It’s been almost a decade since YouTube video sensation Rebecca Black posted a video of herself singing and dancing – she was a child at the time – to her song, “Friday,” and the world was collectively offended. Of course, it takes almost nothing to offend so many these days, so call us unsurprised that newcomer Sarah Brand has managed to offend those who spend all their waking hours on the internet judging everyone from behind their keyboard. She posted a video in July 2021 that features her in a

With the benefit of 10 years of hindsight, it's clear to see that Rebecca Black walked so every tween on TikTok could sprint. When the then-13-year-old released "Friday"—an entirely silly, irreverent tribute to her favorite day of the week which she neither wrote nor ever imagined might go viral—she was crucified. Music critics and anonymous Internet users alike scornfully pulled apart everything from the Southern California-based teen's heavily autotuned voice to the inane lyrics, like, "Tomorrow is Saturday / And Sunday comes afterwards." Today, the music video would likely be the soundtrack for another viral TikTok...

The year 2011 was good to us - it gave us Game of Thrones, Rebecca Black's "Friday," and the launch of two Hemsworth brothers, so naturally it was a memorable year for pop culture. On this week's episode of Not Over It, we're checking in to see where some of the biggest "rising stars" of 2011 landed since getting their big break 10 years ago. While some turned into household names, superheroes, and Oscar winners, others hit their peak just a little earlier than we all predicted.

For the second year in a row, “Schitt’s Creek” won for outstanding comedy series at the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Writer-star-executive producer Dan Levy accepted the prize on behalf of the series.
“When we set out to make ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ we simply wanted to tell funny and hopefully meaningful stories about personal growth, love, empowerment and bebe crows,” Levy said in his acceptance speech. “We had no idea how that town would become such a safe space for our viewers as well. But in reality, there is still so much work that needs to be done, and I cannot thank GLAAD enough for their relentless pursuit of trying to ensure that we can one day live in a world where our community feels that same kind of support.”
Niecy Nash hosted the virtual ceremony, which aired on GLAAD’s YouTube channel. The event will also stream on Hulu beginning at 10 p.

Disney+’s WandaVision was kinder to Wanda Maximoff than most of Marvel Comics have been to the Scarlet Witch in recent decades.

It's almost Friday and Rebecca Black is trending online. Just like that, it feels like 2011 again. This week marks the 10-year anniversary of Black's signature hit, "Friday." On Feb. 10, 2011 to be exact, a music video featuring the then-13 year old performing a song her mom paid producers $4,000 to write was uploaded to YouTube. It wasn't long before the video unexpectedly blew up and became one of the last decade's viral music moments, amassing millions of views on the platform, sparking debate and spurring parodies and celebrity covers. The swift success landed Black a cameo in a Katy Perry music video and the 2011 Teen Choice Award for Choice Web Star while the lyrics of...

"It makes you safe... Isn't that what you want?" Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Bad Impulse, the latest film directed by actress / acting coach / director / producer Michelle Danner. In the aftermath of a traumatic event, a suburban husband & father decides to buy a cutting edge home security system from a mysterious man, only to find that it slowly destroys that which he most wants to protect. Sounds a bit like The Box, but with a home security system instead of a box. Bad Impulse stars Grant Bowler, Paul Sorvino, Sonya Walger, James Landry-Hebert, Abbi Ford, Stephanie Cayo, Dan Lauria, and Rebecca Black. This looks a bit too weird and a bit too creepy, but not really any good. This week’s elimination was, without a doubt, the craziest reveal that I’ve ever seen on this show. The pink and blue Bear was revealed to be none other than former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. Yeah, I’m still processing that one.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers from Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer”)
“The Masked Singer” moved on from its second crop of Season 3 contestants with its Wednesday episode, which introduced viewers to six more of the third season’s 18 competitors.
Those masked singers are part of Group C, a lineup that will compete over the next two weeks until they’ve been whittled down to three contestants who will join the remaining singers from Group A and Group B as the show’s “Super Nine” finalists for the remainder of the season.
Well, we already know at least one contestant who won’t be moving on to the finals: Bear, who was the first Group C contestant eliminated and revealed to be former Alaska governor and one-time vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. (You can see how viewers reacted to her unmasking — and performance of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” here.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 3, episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 11 on Fox.
We can bear-ly believe it: Former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin was unmasked as the Bear on Wednesday night’s edition of “The Masked Singer,” and her song choice was… well, unexpected.
Palin, who performed “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A Lot in the episode, told host Nick Cannon that “to not be able to see much of anything out of this is really nice. It takes the sharp edges off the world. Everything looks a little softer, nicer. I needed this.” Why the bear? “The bear is part of my nickname growing up and the whole ‘Mama Bear’ thing, and they’re in Alaska. They’re in their front yards. Bear was easy. I was so appreciative of ‘The Masked Singer,’ they let me exploit men. I...

You could never accuse Man Man of being an upbeat band: cannibals, wolfmen, and plenty of heartbreak litter the Philly-l.A. band’s catalog, going all the way back to their 2004 debut, The Man in a Blue Turban With a Face.
Man Man’s upcoming LP, Dream Hunting in the Valley of the In-Between, out May 1st, is perhaps their most devastating yet. There may be fewer obvious monsters this time, but there are demons aplenty.
