John Boyega (Star Wars) has jumped on board an new fantasy horror film project called A Spriggan as an executive producer. The film will be developed in the UK and it comes from writer and director Keir Burrows (Anti Matter) and producer Josephine Rose (Slaughterhouse Rulez).
The story for the film follows "a recently widowed mother who returns to her father’s isolated hotel only to find a sinister folklore presence haunting the land."
In UK folklore, Spriggans were "depicted as spirits related to the trolls of Scandinavia. They were often characterized as grotesquely ugly, wizened old men with large child-like heads. Although small, they were often considered to be the ghosts of giants, with the ability to swell to far greater size. The character has become the subject of a host of manga series in Japan."

You can practically feel yourself getting smarter while watching Keir Burrows’ brainy feature debut. The tale of a female scientist who finds herself emotionally adrift after subjecting herself to an experiment involving teleportation, Anti Matter features enough scientific tech-speak to fuel a graduate course. Its intriguing premise handled in uncommonly stylish fashion, this low-budget sci-fi drama should please discerning genre aficionados.
Yaiza Figueroa plays the central role of Ana, a Hispanic-American Oxford student who, along with her colleagues Nate (Tom Barber-Duffy) and Liv (Philippa Carson), manages to discover a wormhole that enables the teleportation of objects, beginning with a simple...

A sci-fi thriller take on Alice In Wonderland? We check out Anti Matter...
Teased as a modern, sci-fi thriller take on Alice In Wonderland, Anti Matter - written and directed by Keir Burrows - follows Ana (Yaiza Figueroa) a scientist leading the Oxford University team who uncover the science around wormholes. If that description intrigues you, then the film itself comes highly recommended.
When time pressures come into play, the team is forced to escalate quickly from animal to human testing, and Ana draws the short straw to go into the machine. When she wakes up the next day, things are slightly different. Slightly wrong. She’s not forming memories, and she’s missing huge swathes of time.
Ana begins to wonder – did some essential part of her get lost in the process? Are we beings made up of matter alone, or do our memories, our souls, exist in a...

For short films, the Tribeca Film Festival is a must. Winning the award for Narrative Short or Best Documentary Short automatically qualifies a film for the Academy Awards. This year, Tribeca will show 60 short films in eight categories, from a variety of new and returning directors (including Christensen with Grandma’s Not A Toaster), and featuring performances from a number of Hollywood stars. Elijah Wood plays a standup comic who attempts a daring set in Setup,...
