There’s a certain formula that often defines the recipients of the Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious top prize, the Palme d’Or. These films, especially in the last two decades, tend to have a sense of importance about them, frequently due to their sociopolitical awareness of the world (Laurent Cantet’s The Class), or of specific societal ills.
From time to time, the Palme d’Or goes to a bold, experimental, and divisive vision from a well-liked auteur, such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Terrence Malick’s The Three of Life. But more often it’s awarded to a film in the lineup that the majority of the members on the Cannes jury can agree is good. That felt like the case for Ken Loach’s The Wind that Shakes the Barley and I, Daniel Blake, as well as Julia Ducournau’s Titane,...

What Kevin Conroy was for Batman, Tim Daly was for Superman, who voiced the character in the ’90s Superman: The Animated Series. While the show itself isn’t as fondly remembered as Batman: The Animated Series, whose success paved the way for the show on the first hand, Daly did hit it out of the park with his performance as Clark Kent.
However, the acclaimed voice artist didn’t connect with Superman from the get-go, as it wasn’t until his later years that saw him developed a keen understanding of the character. But following the current landscape of superheroes, the Wings Star expressed his desire to get back to playing the Clark again, stressing the entertainment industry has gravitated way towards darkness.

For the second consecutive year, the sales, financing and packaging banner has two titles in competition: the Danish drama thriller “Dark Horse”, due to world premiere in the main competition, and the short form Swedish dramedy entry “Painkiller”, which initially bowed at the Göteborg Film Festival.
“Last year we had the Norwegian political drama “Power Play” which won best series, and the Swedish romantic dramedy “Out of Touch” in the short form section. Canneseries is a great platform to get the hype going on your series,” commented Helene Aurø, REinvent sales and marketing director.

Taylor Swift’s touchdown at Los Angeles International airport carried all the drama and excitement of a lunar landing.
Now the question is: how will she get to Las Vegas, and when? Where will she sit, and with whom? And what will happen post-game?
If she flies to Las Vegas on her $54 million Dassault Falcon-9 business jet, interested parties will be able to track her progress in real time on public sites like FlightRadar24. But she also has the option of taking an SUV caravan up the 15, a less likely path since the journey from L.A. takes 4-5 hours on a good traffic day.
FlightRadar24 told Gizmodo that an average of 6,000 people monitored Swift’s 9-hour flight from Tokyo to Los Angeles on Saturday at any given moment. In the final hour of the flight, Gizmodo confirmed that were there more than 10,400 people monitoring the flight live.

The Florida Project director Sean Baker has come on board to executive produce Modern Whore, Nicole Bazuin’s documentary adaptation of Andrea Werhun’s sex work memoir.
The feature-length hybrid film is currently shooting narrative re-enactments as part of a doc based on Modern Whore: A Memoir, a 2022 book that recalled Werhun’s work as an escort and in strip clubs, for which Bazuin provided extensive photography.
The illustrated memoir in turn sprang from a 2020 short film Modern Whore that Werhun starred in, Bazuin directed and which had its world premiere at SXSW. The Modern Whore feature documentary will be told from Werhun’s perspective and have her portray her former escort alias Mary Ann and her stripper persona Sophia, as well a more recent foray into OnlyFans as part of her sex work career in Toronto.
The indie will also incorporate writing and collaborations with other sex workers telling their own stories.

When “Monica” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2022, the response was immediate: The movie received a standing ovation that clocked in at 11-and-a-half minutes. Andrea Pallaoro’s powerful tale of a woman returning home to care for her ailing mother who hasn’t seen her since before her gender transition had already made history by being the first film to feature a trans lead to play the fest. Praise was heaped on star Trace Lysette in the title role and Patricia Clarkson, who portrays her mother, Eugenia.
Still, it wasn’t until November when IFC Films, whose parent company is AMC Networks, picked up North American distribution rights. “‘Monica’ is a terrifically textured film anchored by multiple riveting performances,” says Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks Film Group. “We really responded to Andrea’s vision and felt that it is the type of boundary-pushing, auteur filmmaking we always seek to be associated with.

The Kansas City Chiefs may have lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in their Christmas Day game but they had a couple of big-names pulling for them — Taylor Swift and Santa Claus.
Both were spotted in a special suite at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday cheering for the home team, with Swift wearing a Christmas hat emblazoned with boyfriend Travis Kelce’s number 87 on the band.
Swift and her companions – and fans – didn’t have much to cheer about, though, as the visiting Raiders upset the favored Chiefs, 20-14. Kelce had 44 yards on five catches in the loss.
The hit pop star has made multiple appearances at Chiefs games since she and the team’s tight end went public with their relationship in October. Whether fans use the ship name Traylor or Swelce, the pairing has done big things for the NFL like bringing out Swities en masse hoping to catch...

The Outrun is among the first 11 titles picked by Panorama for its 2024 lineup.

“Did we meet before the table read?” Emily Blunt asks Anne Hathaway.
“This is so embarrassing,” Hathaway replies, “because I remember every second of the first time I met you. I’m so much more into you than you are into me. It’s fine. It’s fine.”
Blunt may not recall the specifics of how the pair initially connected before working on 2006’s “The Devil Wears Prada,” but the rest of us can’t forget the moment we first saw them together. Their chemistry — Blunt playing imperious aloofness as lead assistant Emily to Hathaway’s bumbling, frizzy charm as junior assistant Andrea — buoyed the workplace romantic comedy to $325 million at the global box office and made both women into megastars. Hathaway, emerging from “The Princess Diaries,” proved she could stand Manolo-to-Manolo with Meryl Streep’s villainous fashion editor, while Blunt, an untested actor, found herself suddenly a household name.

"The Twilight Zone" isn't any old kind of zone. It's a bizarre place where anything can happen. Aliens can invade at any moment, William Shakespeare can get a job as a Hollywood ghostwriter. Heck, the creator of the series, Rod Serling, even got killed by his own creations once. The limits are only those of the human imagination, which are damn near infinite, except maybe without the words "damn near."
Yes, sometimes "The Twilight Zone" shows us things we never expected to see, which are hard to describe without making it seem like you're the one making it up. This is especially true for the less-popular, but still sometimes great reboots, which in the 1980s, early 2000s, and late 2010s allowed a whole new generation of actors, writers, and filmmakers to play in Rod Serling's unusual sandbox. Unlike the 1960s series, which was a cultural phenomenon in the 1960s and...

Leg 7 of “The Amazing Race 35” was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for Andrea Simpson and Malaina Hatcher. The college besties got hopelessly lost self-navigating in Germany before they wound up on the wrong ferry, where they exchanged money for Euros instead of a bag of historical coins required for the first Roadblock. That faux pas set them even further back that by the time they arrived in Cologne, the party carnival was over and Phil Keoghan greeted them with a mercy elimination.
“It was just a dagger to our hearts [seeing him there],” Andrea tells Gold Derby (watch above; Malaina was unavailable due to a death in the family). “We must’ve been really, really lost if Phil came to the carnival and we couldn’t even meet him at the mat. It was very disappointing, but we tried our best. We did what we could and this is where we got us.

Flavor Flav is in his Swiftie era. The rapper has formed a surprising yet wholesome bond with Taylor Swift, cheering her on through one of her busiest years to date. Their budding friendship seems to date back to March, when Flav attended the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards proudly wearing a shirt that read, "I come back stronger than a '90s trend," in reference to Swift's "Willow" lyrics. When asked about his outfit choice on the red carpet, he told Billboard, "Love me some Taylor Swift, man, always did." The pair wound up crossing paths later that evening and captured the selfie seen 'round the world. They've been charming the internet ever since.
Flav has consistently shown support for Swift following their first in-person meetup. He spent a not-so-cruel summer attending two of her Eras Tour concerts - and yes, he dressed up in on-theme outfits and traded friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties.

The premiere of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was the kind of glimmery spectacle only a superstar like Swift can create. From Swifties exchanging friendship bracelets with Taylor’s mom Andrea (by “Swifties,” we mean the writer typing this) to Beyoncé, yes, Beyoncé, posing for photos with Taylor on the red carpet, Thursday’s event proved to be nearly as magical as any of the Swift’s tour stops.
Outside of the venue, helicopters roamed, streets closed, and fans without tickets surrounded The Grove, the outdoor shopping mall in L.

Updated: Taylor Swift arrived tonight in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles for the premiere of her Eras Tour concert film premiere at The Grove, generating more noise and glitz than an Oscar Best Song performance atop the Academy Museum. Heck, the fountain at the outdoor luxe Rick Caruso-owned mall was spouting pink water.

Taylor Swift made a movie star appearance at the world premiere of her The Eras Tour concert film Wednesday at The Grove’s AMC Theatre.
The superstar — who just before the Los Angeles event announced her film would debut Thursday in North America instead of its initial Friday night release date — arrived early and posed for photos with her team and with director Sam Wrench before quickly running inside. Hundreds of fans lined the theater entrance, trading friendship bracelets and singing Swift’s hits as she stopped for selfies with many of them. Stars including Rachel Zegler, Maren Morris, Simu Liu, Julia Garner, Mariska Hargitay and Adam Sandler were among the attendees, along with Swift’s mother Andrea and father Scott. Beyoncé — who has her own concert film, Renaissance, being released through AMC in December — also made a surprise appearance at the event, posing alongside Swift on the carpet.

When Batman: Mask of the Phantasm hit theaters on Christmas Day, 1993, it had been set up to fail. Warner Bros. initially ordered the film as a direct-to-video release in the wake of the massive commercial and critical success of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series.
