Tastemade, the digital food and lifestyle network, has tapped a bevvy of top YouTube stars -- including lifestyle vloggers Meghan Rienks and Arden Rose, and comedy creators Ian Hecox and Rickey Thompson -- for its latest Facebook Watch slate.
All of the series were developed via Facebook Watch’s influencer program, which Facebook launched last March to link up new media publishers with digital creators for collaborative series. Facebook funds and licenses the shows, after which they can roll out on other distribution platforms. Tastemade’s shows began rolling out in March and will run on Facebook Watch through December, with episodes ranging from five to seven minutes apiece.
In Sunday At Nana’s (which is currently live), Hecox will test his culinary chops alongside sharp-witted grandmothers, while Rose’s Adulting -- premiering in mid-September -- will take basic recipes and revamp them in a bid to impress friends and family.

After launching to substantial fanfare in October 2015, the visibility of Verizon’s mobile video platform go90 has notably waned in recent months. In February, the original video platform was folded into Oath, which was born of a merger between AOL and Yahoo -- both of which are also owned by Verizon. And at the time, Oath CEO Tim Armstrong said he didn’t know how long the brand would remain in existence.
That said, the go90 is bringing back standout series Mr. Student Body President for a third season on June 14 -- and then a fourth season later this year. The New Form-produced high school drama -- starring high-profile YouTube creators Arden Rose and Gabriel Conte as well as budding actors Camille Hyde (American Vandal) and Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time) -- will premiere on both go90 and Tumblr.

There’s a new social media beef brewing in Hollywood. Representatives from Los Angeles’ thriving industry of social media influencers pointed their pitchforks at a representative of the Federal Trade Commission during a crackling invite-only panel produced by SAG-AFTRA and online video trade outlet Tubefilter in the Miracle Mile section of Los Angeles last week. Drew Baldwin (CEO, Tubefilter, Founder of the Streamy Awards), Moderator David White (National Executive Director, SAG-aftra), Arden Rose (Actress, Digital Producer, and Author), Larry Shapiro(CEO, Ensemble Digital Studios), Ruben Ochoa (VP, ScaleLab and Head of Disruptiv Agency), and the man at the end of everyone’s questions, Thomas Dahdouh (Director,...

Influencer marketing may be one of the hottest trends in business, but the federal agency regulating it faces many challenges just keeping up with the sector’s rapid evolution and endless new gray areas.
That’s the takeaway from Tuesday night’s Tubefilter panel in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the actors union SAG-aftra, on Federal Trade Commission rules for giving online influencers cash, free products, or services or other compensation in exchange for a role in their programming.
Over a spirited two-hour discussion, Tom Dadouh, the FTC’s Western Division director, gamely tried to draw what in legal circles is called a “bright line” delineating what’s required in disclosing compensation in online videos. “The agency is acutely aware that, in the explosion of social media, authenticity is really important,” Dadouh said. “The FTC is concerned that consumers value objective endorsers. To the extent that you’re not who you say you are,...

In the final episode of go90’s sports mockumentary “The 5th Quarter,” Adam Pally (“The Mindy Project”) and Jim O’Heir (“Parks and Recreation”) guest star as defenders of the unfortunately named sports team, the Sheboygan Jews. The short form online comedy blends big name comedy talent with major athlete cameos to tell parody sports documentaries in a smart premise that is perfectly pitched for the growing online platform.
In addition to Pally and O’Heir, comedians like J.B. Smoove, Jerry O’Connell, Chris Parnell, and George Lopez all appear in the series. On the athlete side, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is joined by sportscasters Kenny Mayne and Ahmad Rashad, Los Angeles Clipper Blake Griffin, former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman, Olympic figure skating gold medalist Tara Lipinski, and many more.

Online Essentials is a monthly column where we introduce you to an influential digital content creator in their own words.
If you’re embarrassed by old Facebook photos, imagine having seven years of YouTube videos from the age of 14. It’s just a fact of life for rising actress Arden Rose, star of New Form’s “Mr. Student Body President” and the second season of AwesomenessTV’s “Guidance.”
Rose began her YouTube channel in 2009 with hair and make-up videos, counseling her peers on curing acne and how to grow hair more quickly. Over the past seven years, her videos have quickly evolved from the ubiquitous talking head tutorial video to more stylized fare; with editing, music choices, and feminist politics, Rose’s channel stands out in a sea of clickbait titles and the viral challenge of the moment.

YouTube drama continues. That’s nothing new, though. When you’re the largest video sharing site on the planet and have fostered an environment and culture where individuals are encouraged to speak their mind about issues ranging in importnate from pithy to awkward to mundane, you’re bound to receive a lot of criticism (both positive and negative) at even the hint of a perceived change or issue of concern. What makes this drama different than others, however (unlike like the drama over YouTube drama), is that it’s directly affecting the livelihood and dollar figures in the checks received from YouTube by creators both big and small.

For the second time, AwesomenessTV will use a guidance counselor’s office as the epicenter of a high school story. The digital media company, which appeals to an audience of teens and tweens, is behind Guidance, a drama that will return for its second season on Go90 on November 14th. A teaser previewing the new episodes is now available.
The first season of Guidance starred Michelle Tractenberg as a guidance counselor who uses sessions with her students to uncover a school-wide mystery. Season two will feature a similar premise, but with a new cast. Erica Dasher will take over the guidance counselor, with social media stars like Arden Rose, Chachi Gonzales, Alisha Marie, and Jessie Paege showing up as her charges. A handful of the new characters are on display in the new teasers, which also gives viewers a hint of the sort of teen angst and intrigue they can expect.

Jeremy Shada has never seen “Rushmore” or “Election” (granted — he’s been busy as a working actor for the majority of his 19 years), but he plays politico teenager Tyler Prendergast with a magical combination of Max Fischer’s charisma and Tracy Flick’s moxie.
Tyler Prendergast is the anchor at the heart of “Mr. Student Body President,” a snappy and smart comedy that takes its teenage characters as seriously as they take student government. Tyler runs a tight ship at Berenger High, buoyed by his right-hand woman Hadley (Arden Rose), always to the dismay of his formidable principal (Christina Moore). Whether it’s a hall monitor strike, a problem with the peace treaty between the nerds and the jocks, or a power play from an upstart freshman, there is no problem Tyler and his team cannot handle.
