When Lzzy Hale first met Ashley McBryde, the Halestorm singer presented her with a gift that sartorially summed up the hippie and headbanger sides of the Arkansas native’s personality: a leather jacket with country fringe, heavy metal studs, and a monogram on the lining that read: “Ashley Fucking McBryde.”
“She’s a rock-and-roller at heart, but she also wears that beautiful soul on her sleeve through her voice,” Hale says on a video call from London where the band is nominated at Friday’s Heavy Music Awards. That combination...

Legendary metal drummer Mike Portnoy is saying goodbye to Twitter, citing the social media platform’s new policy that allows anyone to buy a blue check verification for $8 a month.
Twitter recently started stripping verified accounts of their blue check marks for not paying the $8 monthly fee, which was instituted by the company’s new owner Elon Musk. While the money is no issue for Portnoy, the drummer feels the new verification process is compromised.
The ex-Dream Theater stickman, who is currently involved in several music projects — including The Winery Dogs, Metal Allegiance, Flying Colors, and Sons of Apollo, among others — had been one of the more active metal musicians on Twitter up until his stance, so he’s giving up a major communication tool by exiting the platform. For the metal veteran, it’s a matter of principle.

First Photos from Stranger Thigns 4: "It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down."

Halestorm spell-out their hard-rock mission statement on the new track “The Steeple,” a defiant redemption song that finds the band’s Lzzy Hale emerging from the wilderness of pandemic isolation.
“This is my kingdom / this is my cathedral / this is my castle / these are my people,” she howls. “It’s been a long road outta hell / up to the steeple.” The dramatic high point, though, comes not in the chorus, but after guitarist Joe Hottinger’s intricate, spiderweb solo, when Hale repeats the chorus a cappella.

Halestorm have announced the follow-up to their 2018 album Vicious. The hard-rock band’s fifth studio LP will be released in 2022.
While a specific release date, track list or even title have yet to be revealed, the group debuted the LP’s first single. “Back From the Dead” is a biting but cathartic howler about overcoming all obstacles — even death. “I’m back from the dead alive/hell couldn’t hold me down,” singer-guitarist Lzzy Hale wails, as her brother and drummer Arejay Hale and bassist Josh Smith lay down an ominous rhythm.

Halestorm revisit some of their past songs on the new EP Reimagined, out now. But the project isn’t a clichéd set of acoustic readings; instead, the hard-rock band stays true to the EP’s title and revamps the arrangements. Their 2009 debut single “I Get Off” taps into brooding funk, while 2012’s “Break In” becomes a duet between Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee of Evanescence.
The left-field head-turner, however, is a faithful cover of “I Will Always Love You,” written by Dolly Parton and a signature hit for Whitney Houston.

Elizabeth and Arejay Hale have been writing and performing their own songs since the late 90s when they were both still quite young, but they managed to hold onto their dream as the years went by and eventually formed their own band. Halestorm is the kind of hard-hitting group that makes you glad to still be into rock since they bring their lyrics forward with a kick that’s sure to smash your teeth in if you’re too close and without apologies. Their sound came out around the same time as a lot of different bands that had the same kind

A row of awards, including two Grammys, lines the mantel above the fireplace in the Nashville-area home of Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger. But what the Halestorm vocalist and lead guitarist really want you to take note of are a pair of crystal knickknacks on a nearby table, etched with the initials Rjd.
“These were Ronnie James Dio’s bookends,” says Hottinger excitedly. “I bought them at a silent auction.”
