It does appear from a lot of reviews that Men in Black: International was not the most well-loved movie to come out in 2019, even if it was promoting a more ‘woke’ idea that women were more important in the Mib than had originally been depicted. In fact, this almost feels as though it could have happened with Will Smith and Linda Fiorentino had she not experienced a very real scheduling conflict. There was actually a rumor going around that Tommy Lee Jones didn’t want to work with her as Mike McGranaghan of Screenrant can attest to and even expand

Rabid is a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg film - of the same name. This latest production was developed by sisters and Vancouverites Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary). Their version has not been Rated. But, based on their previous work, this film will not shy away from blood and gore. Starring Laura Vandervoort (Jigsaw), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Code Black), WWE wrestler C.M. Punk and Phil Brooks, this horror title is hitting U.S. theatres tonight. The film will also show on Digital platforms. And, this release looks to be action packed. Several early reviews have come out on the film. Mike McGranaghan at Aisle Seat mentions the practical effects: "some stellar prosthetics and FX work provide chills." All of the effects, from the trailer, look decent. Ian Sedensky at the Culture Crypt mentions one of the film's themes: "luckily, “Rabid” is a film about transformation." The main character Rose (Vandervoort...

This week’s question: What is the worst movie remake ever made?
“Beauty and the Beast” (2017)
Mike McGranaghan (@AisleSeat), The Aisle Seat, Ranker
It was a massive hit and got mostly good reviews from other critics, so maybe this is just a personal thing, but I’d have to choose Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” remake. They took a beautiful, meaningful story and turned it into a big, dumb, overblown, soulless, CGI-heavy bore. Actually, I hate all the Disney live-action remakes. They’re just inferior versions of movies that were virtually perfect. Disney has always been way too willing to cannibalize itself. These films take that unappealing tendency to a new low. The “Beauty and the Beast” remake is the worst of a bad lot.

Some sequels shouldn’t be made in the opinion of some folks, but then again, some sequels don’t seem to have a lot in common with the original movies and thus kind of stand on their own. That seems to be where a lot of folks get tripped up when they look at Caddyshack and Caddyshack II. Mike Mcgranaghan wrote that it’s not entirely possible to defend Caddyshack II because even the cast said that it was a horrible movie, but let’s play devil’s advocate here and take the time to really see how and why the movie isn’t as terrible

This week’s question: In honor of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” which effectively reboots Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” saga, which current movie franchise should be put out of our misery once and for all?
Carlos Aguilar (Carlos_Film), The Wrap, Remezcla, MovieMaker Magazine
Cancelling the “Avatar” franchise before it even becomes one would be ideal, but we know that James Cameron’s arrogance won’t allow that to happen. Aside from their ridiculous alleged titles, the prospect of four more movies based on a virtually forgotten blockbuster from 2009 seems more like a director’s refusal to let go than something fans are eager to consume. Surely there are audiences out there that hold this sci-fi version of “Pocahontas” with blue aliens dearly (some might even rewatch their old DVD...

This week’s question: In honor of Lady Gaga’s turn in “A Star Is Born,” what is the best performance by a musician in a movie?
Carl Broughton II (@Carlislegendary), writer for thefilmera
Best performance by a musician in a movie is a tough debate, but I have to give it to Eminem in “8 Mile”. I can’t even tell you how many times I watched this movie in my life, yet alone referenced it. Eminem’s acting is convincing, and when the emotional moments in the movie hit they hit hard. Eminem says the film is loosely based on his life, but it honestly feels like your watching an biography of how Eminem made it to success. I think that is what makes his performance memorable all these years later.

This week’s question: What was the best movie of the 2018 summer movie season?
The responses have been grouped alphabetically by movie, from “Avengers: Infinity War” at the top to “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” at the bottom.
Katey Stoetzel (@kateypretzel), The Young Folks
I have to go with the blockbuster. “Avengers: Infinity War” was the peak movie-going experience of the summer for me. I saw it twice in theaters, and again recently. Like with many films you’ve seen multiple times, I was a bit concerned the spectacle of the film – 10 years in the making, and all that – wasn’t there on third viewings and beyond. But it was, and I was just as excited to see Tony Stark and Doctor Strange exchange verbal warfare, the Guardians misfit their way around other superheroes,...
