It’s another Jon Stewart Monday over at The Daily Show today, but the rest of this week will see Michael Kosta take the reins for the fourth time.
Kosta’s first Tuesday-through-Thursday hosting stint came in late February. In mid-March, he spent another week at the helm alongside correspondent Desi Lydic. He returned for another solo run in April.
Kosta will host by himself again this week, making him tied with Lydic and contributor Jordan Klepper for most weeks hosted this season .
Kosta’s guest on Tuesday will be journalist and author Sebastian Junger, promoting his new book In My Time of Dying: How I Came Face to Face with the Idea of an Afterlife.
In the book, the war reporter recounts how the closest he came to death was not somewhere on the front lines, but rather when he suffered an aneurysm at his own home.

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday night, and it’s taking a toll on him, as he also fronted the show last Thursday.
“I hosted on Thursday, and I’m back on Monday,” he jokingly said. “I just don’t know how much longer I could do this — barely any rest. just slept in a hyperbaric chamber all weekend.”
Stewart was absent from the show last Monday as he traded hosting duties for Thursday. The move was to accommodate Stewart being in Los Angeles for the Netflix Is a Joke festival and appearing on John Mulaney’s live show. Jordan Klepper took over Mondays, while Stewart did hosting duties on Thursday.
Despite Stewart joking he barely got any rest from The Daily Show, it recently was announced that he would be adding to his job duties with a new podcast from Comedy Central set to launch...

Viewers may be seeing red after Comedy Central airs Jordan Klepper’s newest Daily Show special
Comedy Central just announced the latest installment of The Daily Show Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse, and this one’s taking on the Republican party’s relationship with Vladimir Putin and Russia. Titled Moscow Tools, the special will premiere following The Daily Show next Monday, May 20th.
“As Vladimir Putin continues his gritty reboot of the Soviet Union, he’s getting a surprising amount of help from the party once led by Reagan,” the program’s synopsis explains. “Jordan Klepper speaks to foreign affairs experts, possible Russian assets, and probably Russian recording devices to find out whether Republicans have become the Kremlin’s useful idiots.”
One of those guests will be former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton, who is shown sitting down with Klepper in a trailer for the special.

Monday Am: These apes are going to need a bigger boat for their cash that is as 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came in over expectations with a $58.5M opening. Sunday came in at $16.5M, down 19%, a strong attributable to Mother’s Day. Who knew moms were fans of the Planet of the Apes movies? Typical Mother’s Day Saturday to Sunday drops are around the -28% range.
That’s now the third highest opening for an Apes movie after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6M) and Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes ($68.5M). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes only cost $160M, which is cheaper than Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes which cost $190M before P&a. For those who were wondering, “Where in the world is Jon Stewart?” when tuning in to Monday’s The Daily Show (which was hosted by correspondent Jordan Klepper), viewers only had to tune in to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Stewart, who has been behind the desk at the Comedy Central staple on Mondays for two months, took the night off the desk for the Netflix Is a Joke festival happening in Los Angeles. On Friday, he headlined at The Greek Theatre for his “Jon Stewart and Friends” show, which saw him bring out Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman and Mike Birbiglia as special guests. Stewart is also slated to be a guest on John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. on Netflix this week, a set of live talk shows that are part of the streamer’s fest.

The Daily Show will look a little different when viewers tune in on Monday night.
Instead of Jon Stewart, who has been anchoring the Comedy Central show on Mondays for the past two months, correspondent Jordan Klepper will be behind the desk this Monday. He’ll continue as host on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Stewart will close out the week on Thursday night.
The schedule for this week is an inverse of how The Daily Show has operated since Stewart’s return in February — he has anchored the show on Mondays, and members of the show’s news team have held down the rest of the week.
The switch is likely to be for this week only. Stewart is slated to be a guest on John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. on Netflix this week, a set of live talk shows that are part of the streamer’s...

Instead of hosting the show Monday evening, as he has since returning to the show in February, Stewart will host on Thursday instead.
Jordan Klepper will be at the desk in place Stewart Monday night and will host through Wednesday.
Stewart is set to play L.A.’s Greek Theatre Friday night for a night of standup under the stars that’s being billed as “Jon Stewart and Friends.”
He’s also on the guest list for John Mulaney’s “Everybody’s in L.A.” miniseries, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up sitting down with another semi-retired Late Nighter as a series of comedy legends are expected to participate in a show Netflix is calling “Gods of Comedy With David Letterman.”

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” which welcomed back Jon Stewart as one of its hosts this year, will continue its election year tradition of taking the show on the road to the national political conventions this summer, Variety can confirm.
The extent of Stewart’s involvement at the two conventions has not yet been determined, but Comedy Central has made it official that “The Daily Show” will take its “Indecision 2024” coverage to Milwaukee, Wisc., from July 15 to July 18 for a full week of shows during the Republican National Convention. The following month, “The Daily Show” will set up shop in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention from August 19 to August 22.
This continues an “Indecision” tradition that dates back to 2000, when “The Daily Show” first began covering the conventions, originating shows from battleground states including Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, as well as from Washington, D.C. As of now,...

The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.

Exclusive: After finding its new host in the returning Jon Stewart, The Daily Show is staffing up.
The Comedy Central series has signed up three new correspondents to its news team: Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt.
They are the first new correspondents to join the show in six years, since the arrival of Jaboukie Young-White, who joined in 2018 and left in 2021. The last new correspondent still on the show was Dulcé Sloan, who joined in September 2017 (Jordan Klepper returned in December 2019 having previously been featured on the show).
Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt joined the show in October 2023 and Johnson, who was previously a writer on the show, made his on-screen debut in February. The move to official correspondents just happened, despite being on the show for a few months.

Induce Gagging
As his trial over illegally trying to hush up any scandals that might have derailed his 2016 run for President continues, Donald Trump continues to violate his own gag order. Whether it’s via his all-caps broadsides on social media or his prop-heavy pre- and post-proceedings press conferences, Trump persists in attacking jurors, the judge, the prosecutors, the legal system, and any reporters who publish accounts of him napping and passing copious gas in the courtroom.
In fact, on this second trial day proper, Trump stormed out of a morning session to determine whether he’d violated the gag order and… immediately violated the gag order, putting out a Truth Social rant attacking Judge Juan Merchan and the New York Da’s office. And while Merchan...

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show has given the show a big lift on the nights that he hosts — and even on the nights he doesn’t.
Stewart’s surprise return to Comedy Central’s late- night flagship — he’ll anchor the show on Monday nights through the presidential election — led to an immediate ratings spike for the show, as his first show back on Feb. 12 hit a multiyear high in viewers. The first few episodes after Stewart’s return, hosted by Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper, also came in way ahead of the show’s average viewership for 2023.
Seven weeks into the Stewart-and-correspondents hosting arrangement, that pattern has mostly held up. Ratings have cooled some in April, but both Stewart’s Monday shows and the news team-led installments later in the week have consistently stayed well above both the show’s guest host era of 2023 and the...

After the prospective jurors left the courtroom, Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche requested that his client be excused from the proceedings on April 25. That’s the day that the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Trump’s claims of immunity from prosecution.

Huey Lewis stopped by The Daily Show to discuss the new Broadway jukebox musical featuring Huey Lewis and the News hits, The Heart of Rock and Roll (get tickets here). Along the way, he played a game of “Fuck, Marry, Kill” with classic ’80s albums.
With host Jordan Klepper — who has stepped in for the newly-returned John Stewart for the rest of the week — Huey was given the choice to “Fuck, Marry, Kill” the four albums that went number one in 1984.
He was presented with Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Prince’s Purple Rain, Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA, and Kenny Loggins’ Footloose. Lewis swiftly decided to kill Footloose, saying “Kenny Loggins won’t mind, he’s a good guy.” He then said he’d “make love to Born in the USA,” and that he would “fall in love with Thriller” — he did, however, clarify that he prefers Michael...

Jordan Klepper had his turn at The Daily Show’s rotating desk of hosts this week, and he was joined on Thursday’s episode by a surprise guest: Leslie Jones.
The former SNL cast member made her debut as a Daily Show contributor after Klepper’s monologue, delivering an impassioned plea to not elect former President Donald Trump back into office.
“Your favorite auntie is back to straighten out America,” Jones began before warning viewers that “America is on the path to doing something really, really stupid!”
In classic Leslie Jones form, she continued: “What the f**k is wrong with us?! This is like a movie where you see the disaster coming from a mile away, and nobody is stopping it. Every time I turn on the news, I’m shouting at the screen like it’s a horror movie. ‘Don’t go in there, America! Leatherface is in there,...

This past Monday night on The Daily Show Jon Stewart called Kevin O’Leary an asshole.
It was no big deal. It wasn’t even really a joke because Stewart seemed really to just be making a personal observation about the long-time Shark Tank business “shark,” saying he is “such an asshole even the other people on Shark Tank think he’s an asshole.”
No bleeping, of course, because Comedy Central is a cable network and so not vulnerable to complaints that could threaten the broadcast license bestowed on television stations by the Federal Communications Commission.
Those licenses still exist, though what sort of entity needs one is somewhat poorly understood, as Donald Trump demonstrates every time he rails at CNN or MSNBC for questioning his fitness to be president and demands that their licenses be revoked.

The Daily Show hosting round robin has found its way back to Jordan Klepper.
Klepper will host this week’s Tuesday-Thursday episodes, making him the first correspondent to return to the anchor desk solo so far this season.
On Tuesday night, Klepper will welcome CNN chief national security analyst and anchor Jim Sciutto. Sciutto will be promoting his new book, The Return of Great Powers, which examines where America fits into the new global order alongside Russia and China.
On Wednesday night, Klepper will host Byron Tau, a reporter at Notus, a new Washington publication from the nonprofit, nonpartisan Allbritton Journalism Institute. Tau will be on to promote his new book Means of Control.
And on Thursday night, singer-songwriter Huey Lewis will talk about the Broadway show The Heart of Rock and Roll, a new musical comedy inspired by the chart-topping anthems of Huey Lewis and the News.

After four weeks of handing over Tues-Thurs hosting duties to each of primary correspondents, The Daily Show is pairing two of them together this week with Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta set to share the desk.
It’s not the first time the show has tapped two correspondents to co-host, but this will be the first week-long co-hosting stint. (Both correspondents hosted solo over different weeks in February.)
Kosta and Lydic memorably appeared together in a piece for the show last November that poked fun at the rising prices (and shrinking content offerings) of streaming services.
The duo’s guests this week are set to include David Alan Grier on Wednesday and Renée Elise Goldsberry on Thursday. Their schedule guest on Tuesday is journalist Jane Marie, promoting her new book “Selling the Dream: The Billion-Dollar Industry Bankrupting Americans.”

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show on Feb. 12 posted strong ratings — and may have helped the rest of the week’s episodes, as well.
It’s an exceedingly small sample size, but the numbers for the three shows hosted by Jordan Klepper after Stewart’s inaugural show improved substantially on The Daily Show’s recent average. The deal for Stewart’s return will have him hosting on Monday nights each week, with the show’s correspondents taking turns behind the desk for the other three days.
For Feb. 13-15, Klepper’s turn as host averaged 461,000 same-day viewers — the highest mark in more than 2 1/2 years (since May 17-20, 2021). Adding in the 970,000 Comedy Central viewers for Stewart’s Monday show, The Daily Show drew about 588,000 average viewers for the week, its best showing since March 2021. With his very first episode back, Jon Stewart has successfully returned The Daily Show to the cultural conversation — by drawing fire from Democrats.
Stewart’s return to Daily Show hosting duties Monday night opened with a 20-minute monologue going after Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Stewart especially mocked the current president after his disastrous press conference last week where Biden struggled to assure Americans that he was still cognitively capable of performing his duties.
Stewart seemed wholly aware his comments would lead to some left-side backlash, with correspondent Jordan Klepper asking Stewart on-air afterwards, “Did you save democracy yet with your ’90s brand of snark and both-siderism?”
And that’s precisely the sort of blowback that happened, with everyone from progressives to Elon Musk to the White House weighing in.
Mary Trump — a vehement critic of her uncle — wrote on X: “Not only is Stewart’s ‘both sides are the same’ rhetoric not funny,...

During The Daily Show segment “Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse” released Tuesday, correspondent Jordan Klepper headed to a Trump rally to ask supporters about presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s chances at the primary and the possibility of a Trump dictatorship, which the former president has alluded to and then later claimed he was kidding about it. To some Trump supporters, some of whom were dressed in American flag swim trunks and Maga caps, the answer rolled off their tongue.
One supporter suggested, “that’s what we need,” in reference to the dictatorship.

The reunion of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show brought a lot of viewers back to the program as well.
Stewart’s first show back as (part-time) host of Comedy Central’s late night flagship drew 930,000 viewers Monday — the most for a Daily Show installment in almost six years (since March 28, 2018, midway through Trevor Noah’s time as host). Simulcasts on other Paramount-owned channels (MTV, Paramount Network, TV Land, CMT, Pop, MTV2 and Logo) and a later replay on Comedy Central brought the total for the night to 1.85 million viewers.
With Stewart — who left the anchor desk in 2015 — hitting familiar comic beats and an aggressive (if brief) marketing push behind his return, The Daily Show also recorded its best same-day rating among adults 25-54 since August 2017 and more than doubled the show’s audience for both the final weeks of Noah’s tenure and the series of guest hosts it...

Jon Stewart scored big numbers for his return to The Daily Show.
Stewart’s return to the late-night show Monday scored the most-watched episode of the Comedy Central show in five years. It brought in 930,000 viewers, making it the most-watched episode since 2018.
The episode was simulcast CMT, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land and it added another 920,000 viewers to these networks, taking its total across the night, include repeats, to 1.85 million.
It was also The Daily Show’s biggest rating share since 2015 with a 4.21.
Stewart trumped Trevor Noah’s final episode, up 110% over the 443,000 that watched the South African comedian say goodbye in December 2022. It was also up 160% on that show in the 25-54 demo in viewers.
On social, Comedy Central said Monday’s episode had 11.1M views across social platforms.
Stewart returned after almost nine years to host the show Monday nights on Comedy Central through the presidential election.

The parallels were impossible to ignore, so Jon Stewart decided not to ignore them. Both major American political parties have been unable to find new candidates to lead their presidential tickets, leading to a rematch in the 2024 election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. And in a much lower-stakes effort to find a leader for a legacy institution, Comedy Central has yet to decide on a new course for “The Daily Show” following the departure of Trevor Noah, despite months of public tryouts from guest hosts including Sarah Silverman, Roy Wood Jr., Desus Nice and more. So the network has brought back Stewart for a weekly appearance on Monday nights, starting with this week’s season premiere.
These similarities are lost on no one, least of all Stewart himself. Apart from an extended runtime and a quick appearance by former correspondent Jordan Klepper, there was little to announce tonight’s...

“Welcome to The Daily Show, my name is Jon Stewart.”
The comedian kicked off his return to the Comedy Central and he’s jazzed.
“Now where was I? I’m excited to be back. Why am I back, you may be asking yourselves, it’s a very reasonable question. I have committed a lot of crimes and from what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders,” he added.
Stewart was returning to the franchise that he turned around, ostensibly replacing Trevor Noah, who left over a year ago, with a few celebrity guest hosts helping out in between.

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday, and within three minutes was already going after Donald Trump — but also Joe Biden, taking a critical look at the president’s apparent age-related issues.
Announcing “Indecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,” Stewart dove right into special counsel Robert Hur’s report that exonerated President Biden on the matter of mishandling classified documents while also seemingly torpedoing his re-election efforts with its harsh description of Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. Stewart showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and likewise not being able to recall some basic facts. “It turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,” said Stewart, slipping seemingly effortlessly back into the role of the show’s host (monologue video below).

As Jon Stewart readies himself to return to The Daily Show, the comedian, entertainment news host, and activist wants to open up about why Apple TV+ canceled his show, The Problem With Jon Stweart, ahead of election season. Speaking with CBS Mornings, Stewart says Apple ended his series after two seasons out of fear he’d say something that would land him in trouble. While Stewart is used to being a target of judgment and ridicule, Apple TV+ hopes to keep their noses clean and free from backlash, especially with a heated political battle looming on the horizon.

Ahead of his return to The Daily Show tonight, Jon Stewart has revealed why he’s getting back behind his old desk.
Stewart, who will host Monday nights on Comedy Central through the presidential election, said he “very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season.”
“Who better to comment on this election than someone who truly understands two aging men past their prime?” he joked.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Stewart said he hopes to have a “catharsis” and a “way to comment on things and a way to express them that hopefully people will enjoy.”
“But as far as influence … just about everything I had wanted to happen over the 16 years that I was at The Daily Show did not happen, if you were hoping for influence,” he said.

The 76th Directors Guild of America Awards took place on Saturday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Pt with Judd Apatow hosting the in-person, non-televised ceremony. These kudos honored the best helmers of the year in movies and television, as voted on by more than 18,000 members of the directing guild. Scroll down for the 2024 DGA Awards winners list in three film and eight TV categories.
As always, the all-important feature film category is one of the most telling bellwethers for the eventual Best Director Oscar. As always, the all-important feature film category is one of the most telling bellwethers for the eventual Best Director Oscar. Just how big a deal is Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show desk? John Oliver, the former Daily Show correspondent turned HBO Last Week Tonight host, compared it to NBA legend Michael Jordan’s return to the Chicago Bulls in 1995 after retiring from the game.
“Jordan’s back!” Oliver quipped in an interview with NBC’s Willie Geist.
Oliver was caught as off guard as everyone else with the news, which broke in the middle of the interview with Geist.
“I mean, that’s, that is a surprise,” Oliver said. “That’s a show that needs a host. He certainly is a very, very good one. So yeah, it’ll be exciting to see what he does.”
But he also added that the show “should appoint a permanent host” after Stewart’s run, naming former Peacock host Amber Ruffin and former Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. as strong contenders.

Jon Stewart is heading back to “The Daily Show.”
More than 25 years after starting on the Emmy Award-winning late-night show and nearly nine years after his exit, Stewart will host Monday episodes of “The Daily Show” through the 2024 presidential election. The Emmy Award-winning host will also serve as an executive producer on “The Daily Show” during this run.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

The night is always darkest before the dawn (or so they say), and just when it seemed like all hope was lost ... a hero made his dramatic, last-minute return. Okay, today's news isn't quite on the level of Christian Bale's Batman coming out of self-imposed retirement in "The Dark Knight Rises" or a bearded Cap stepping out of the shadows in "Avengers: Infinity War," but we'll take what we can at this point. Jon Stewart, everyone's favorite talk show host and political humorist, is making his grand -- and rather unexpected -- return to hosting duties on "The Daily Show" just in time for the upcoming American presidential election.
The news was announced by President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy (via The Hollywood Reporter), though with a wrinkle. Rather than returning full-time, Stewart will merely host one episode a week on Mondays while the network cycles...

After an eight-year hiatus, Jon Stewart is set to make a surprising comeback to The Daily Show, where he originally began 25 years ago. Stewart will be hosting the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week throughout the election cycle, and his return follows his impactful tenure that revolutionized late-night TV, fostering talents like Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, and Steve Carell. Many have speculated about Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show, especially after Apple TV+ canceled his series The Problem with Jon Stewart last year. Stewart will take the show’s prime slot on Monday nights to catch up on weekend news. Other weeknights will feature correspondents like Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, and Jordan Klepper. Stewart returns on February 12, producing episodes through 2025, reuniting with showrunner Jen Flanz. His return follows clashes with Apple TV+ over his canceled series, allowing him to reclaim The Daily Show.
