James grew up in Everett, WA, and moved to Japan as a teenager. After becoming fluent in Japanese, he began work as a production manager and assistant director for music videos featuring major artists in the Japanese music industry. James eventually found his niche as a bilingual production manager, working on international productions for TV shows, commercials, and documentaries. He was in Tokyo during the 2011 Sendai tsunami, and shortly after teamed up with director Lucy Walker to enter the disaster zone and film interviews with survivors for The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom.
James went on to become a band member of The Brilliant Green and Tommy February6 from 2010 to 2014, and is now a tech startup founder in London.
