Described as a “hugely ambitious feature film slate,” El Estudio and Morbido are launching The Latin House of Horror, and Variety brings us the scoop this afternoon.
The Latin House of Horror will be dedicated to “channeling the voices of a powerful new generation of genre artists emerging in Spain and, most especially, Latin America.”
A six-movie slate was announced out of Cannes this week. Mexico’s Sula Films will produce the series, with Film Factory Entertainment handling world sales.
Variety reports, “The slate is designed to supercharge genre production in Latin America, in ambition, profile and exports, just as Filmax’s Fantastic Factory did a generation ago in Spain.”
The slate of films and filmmakers for The Latin House of Horror includes…

Karmin may have kicked their career off with sugary pop bangers like “Brokenhearted” and “Hello,” but the husband-wife duo has since shapeshift their sound into something a little more natural, and it seems like it’s a vibe that ultimately suits them the best in the end. Their second full-length, Leo Rising, arrived earlier in September, and today they dropped the music video for “Love Is Louder” — it also happens to be one of the coolest of their career so far.
In a video draped in black and white, frontwoman Amy Heidemann is hardly the star of the show — that instead goes to the dancing shirtless man who has the responsibility of driving the point of the video, and of the song, home. As the clip begins with front pages of newspapers detailing horrific attacks, Heidemann pleads for a better future with lyrics like, “I would like to live my...

The pop duo - comprised of Amy Heidemann and husband Nick Noonan - is back with new single "Blame It on My Heart," and People has an exclusive first look at the track's music video, which was inspired by '70s exploitation films. The single will appear on Karmin's upcoming album Leo Rising, the songs on which are inspired by the various signs of the Zodiac. "'Blame It on My Heart' embodies the fun-loving qualities of Sagittarius," says Heidemann of the track's astrological inspiration. Congratulations are in order! Karmin's Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan are married! The couple broke the news in an inconspicuous way—by having Amy change her last name on her Twitter profile. Afterwards she tweeted, "Me & the hubby performing Saturday at @sxsw who's going?" One fan was so anxious to see an official wedding pic that he Photoshopped their images onto a bride and groom. "@karminmusic post a wedding pic! Here's a fake one while I wait," the fan tweeted. The duo jokingly responded to the goofy pic, "How did our photos leak?" Amy and Nick opened up about their engagement in an interview with HuffPost Live in April 2015 and dished that they didn't...

"Hozier who?" That was likely the question on most Saturday Night Live viewers' minds when the Irish singer was first revealed as the October 12th musical guest for Bill Hader's return episode. However, the rising soul singer delivered a rousing performance that ensured people don't forget his name anytime soon. Hozier played a pair of tracks off his self-titled LP, his hit "Take Me to Church" and the harrowing "Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene."

Janelle Monae wants to take you to Rio on her new song and resistance is futile. “What Is Love,” which is featured in 20th Century Fox’s animated feature, “Rio 2,” came out today. The song combines Monae’s trademark irrepressibly bouncy, upbeat sound with a slight Brazilian rhythm and with lots of great percussion. It’s easy to see the birds of Rio bopping to the tune. It’s easy to see anyone bopping to it. It has the same kind of fun vibe as the Spice Girls' "Spice Up Your Life" crossed with Santa Esmeralda's version of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Yep, I went there. In the song, Monae wonders what good is love if it’s not coming from the one she loves, but the song is as light as a feather, so even though she may be asking a deep question, the...

Tonight's musical guest on Saturday Night Live's rerun is Maroon 5, and so viewers can expect to sit through Axe-drenched frontman Adam Levine spending several minutes polishing a bland pop-rock turd on live TV. In an era of the show dominated by the likes of Maroon 5, Karmin, Ke$ha, and Jessie J, it is important to remember that there sometimes can be the occasional badass SNL musical performance. Every now and then, an artist will (or the genre it represents) will make a big impression with a memorable set; and other times, a legendary artist will show exactly why they've earned that reputation. So with that, Mediaite presents the most memorable, badass, great, whatever-positive-adjective SNL performances of all time.

The red carpet for "The 40th Anniversary American Music Awards" was sadly lacking in major wow moments, but a few looks stood out among the crowd.
Amy Heidemann joined fiance and Karmin bandmate, Nick Louis Noonan to introduce No Doubt's performance. But not before turning heads with one of the only daring looks of the night. Amy's Falguni and Shane Peacock cutout dress was perfectly complemented with a spark of Nars velvet matte lipstick pencil in Red Square.
Nicki Minaj surprised us by toning it down and classing it up with her lime green Monique Lhuillier gown. Surprisingly lacking in garishness from head-to-toe, this is the best Minaj has looked on a red carpet in a while.
Carrie Underwood looked lovely in lace, pulling off the glamazon look in a purple beaded floor-length. Too bad her hair doesn't live up to the glamour of the dress -- we're not big...

I love cover songs. I don’t know what it is about them, but one of my favorite pastimes — a guilty pleasure if you will — is to log onto YouTube, type in the name of a song I’m digging and watch someone other than the original artist sing their rendition of the tune.
I’m sure this is why I’ve always been such a big fan of TV singing competitions as well, but that isn’t the point. The point of this post is that last April I was introduced to, maybe, one of the most amazing covers I’d ever experienced in my entire life. And that’s saying a lot, since I spend much of my free time and weekends doing nothing but looking for these videos (I’m only kind of exaggerating).
Anyway, the introduction came via email from my friend, who is aware of my obsession,...

What caused this birthday cake to go from Karmin's plate to all over their faces?
"This is a series of two pictures: The first one is of us about to eat the cake and then this is the aftermath," Karmin's Nick Noonan told MTV News. "You notice, somehow, my shirt became unbuttoned between two pictures; I don't remember how that happened."

"Glee" star Lea Michele — who recently opened her Instagram account, introduced us to her new bike via the photo-sharing site. The picture rolled its way right into the hearts of her more than 61,000 followers with 14,583 likes and 583 comments and counting.
Also traveling on two wheels this week is Kendall Jenner. Who's that riding tandem on the "Keeping up with the Kardashians" starlet's bike?...

Blown Away #1 again as Adele moves back up to #2.

Just as the 11th season of "American Idol" is wheezing to a close , the top three contenders can take some heart in the fact that former champ Carrie Underwood is still at the top of her game. Underwood's latest, Blown Away, will spend a second week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts thanks to sales of 120,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Though sales were down 55 percent, that was enough to edge out a resurgent Adele, who may have benefitted from the Mother's Day Bump for her unstoppable 21, which was up 31 percent and two spots to #2 on sales of 101,000. That holiday push helped lift Adele over the 9 million mark in the U.S., with diamond status now well within reach.

Looks like the producers of Saturday Night Live have decided to change gears from the decidedly "young people" artists like One Direction, Karmin, and Gotye and go with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger as musical guest for this season's May 19th finale. Not only will Jagger perform, but he will pull double-duty as the show's host. This will be his first time hosting the program. Perhaps as a retort to all those complaining about Saturday Night Live's decidedly younger-skewing, YouTube-combing musical guests this year, the show has booked the complete opposite of Karmin and One Direction in Mick Jagger, who will also pull double duty as host of the May 19 finale. Jagger has popped up three times over the years to perform but he's never hosted, although he has memorably appeared in sketches—most notably wheeling out his eerily accurate Keith Richards impersonation opposite Mike Myers, and doing one of those mirror routines opposite Jimmy Fallon. In short, Jimmy Fallon is also ...

A week after Lana Del Rey's infamous Saturday Night Live performance (a fairly disastrous showing that jumpstarted the second national wave of Ldr backlash), SNL attempted to address the controversy with a Weekend Update sketch. Kristen Wiig swanned out onstage dressed as Del Rey and offered the following fake apology: "The music stage on SNL is hallowed ground, and I failed to reach the high bars set by past guests like Bubba Sparxxx, The Baha Men, and Shaggy." The bit was funny (sorry, Baha Men), and not too harsh on Lana, who had surely been attacked enough that week. But the joke was built on a premise that hasn't been true for a while, or at least for the better half of this season, with acts like Del Rey, Sleigh Bells, Karmin, and Gotye taking the main stage. SNL has developed an unexpectedly trendy, Internet-aware musical taste. You could...

Jack White's 'Saturday Night Live' performance proves he has awesome to spare, in Bigger Than the Sound.

Jack White and Lindsay Lohan on "Saturday Night Live"

The most distracting thing on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend wasn't Lindsay Lohan's face (or overall lack of preparation); it was Jack White and his general awesomeness.
This is, of course, nothing new. Back in 2010, when writing about the White Stripes' "Under Great White Northern Lights" film, I compared White to "a woodblock printer, a missionary, a wheelwright [and] a buckskin-clad frontiersman" (among other things), all of which are thoroughly awesome in their own way. Shoot, before that, I praised White for phoning a Chicago radio station — from Spain, nonetheless — to accuse them of cowardice (always awesome) after they played a leaked copy of the Stripes' Icky Thump album.

I've been a fan of Saturday Night Live for as long as I can remember. There's something about a fresh host and strong cast members that keeps me coming back every week. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about the show -- some say the quality has declined in current years -- but I don't necessarily agree. I like how some of the cast members get their start on the show and eventually grow into full-fledged comedy stars. I still love past cast members like Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler -- even Kristen Wiig has grown on me in recent years. Of the current cast, Bill Hader is hands down the best there is. There's nothing that man can't do! From Clint Eastwood to his flawless Alan Alda impression to the fan favourite, Stefon, he's a perfect example of what makes the show so enjoyable to watch.

"We just wanted to shake his hand really quick, get out of his hair, and somebody from his table was trying to shake our hand. It was Spielberg. And he was like, 'Wow, you guys were incredible. That was fantastic. My favorite song was the second song.' It was pretty ridiculous."
As for the pop duo's album "Broken Hearted," which hit stores on February 7, Heidemann takes pride in how catchy it is. "It has those pop melodies, and tons of rap in the verses and the bridge... lots of catchy things," she said last month.

Although Zooey Deschanel delivered a perfectly acceptable performance as SNL host last weekend, many SNL-watchers speculated that this week's host, former cast member Maya Rudolph, would raise the bar. Or at least that she wouldn't, unlike last week's musical guest, Karmin, make people all across America try to give themselves air embolisms by shooting hypodermic needles directly into their eyeball veins. (I dunno, I saw it on Law and Order once so I guess it's a thing.) Last night, Rudolph (with musical guest Sleigh Bells) failed to disappoint. Though her acclaimed Whitney Houston impression didn't make it on the air, her equally acclaimed Beyonce impression did; as did the return of "Bronx Beat," "The Maya Angelou Prank Show," and another installment of the eternally divisive What Up With That? sketch, with a cameo appearance by none other than Bill O'[...]...

Saturday Night Live fans are a fickle, often divided bunch. You’re typically either of the variety that believes the show’s heyday has long since passed or you’re part of the group that will staunchly defend the current cast and the show itself until the very end. But it’s not as though those two groups can never intersect or see eye-to-eye on the long-running series. In fact, last night’s hysterical and edgy episode of SNL may have been the ultimate unifier: A fusion of greats from the show’s past effortlessly blending with the new.

Saturday Night Live S37E14: "Zooey Deschanel/Karmin"
Is it just me, or was this weekend's Saturday Night Live one of the best of the season? "Songs From District 12 And Beyond" reads the subheading of the forthcoming "Hunger Games" soundtrack, when leads us to think that not all of these songs will make the cut into the movie. But, no matter, as the full tracklist for the disc has been revealed and it's certainly eclectic, and if it turns some tweens onto some decent music that isn't Skrillex or Karmin (who we didn't know existed until "Saturday Night Live" this weekend), then we can't complain. Spanning sixteen songs strong, the "Hunger Games" soundtrack includes expected folks like Taylor Swift (who leads things off with two songs), Neko Case, Arcade Fire (not just Win Butler and Regine Chassagne as was previously reported it seems) and Secret Sisters along with some surprising names. Among, them Kid Cudi, who brings some hip hop flava with the tough sounding "The Ruler & The Killer." Meanwhile, Glen Hansard of "Once" and Swell.

Whitney Houston's final film, Sparkle, is still set for release this August. A remake of the 1976 film, it stars Jordan Sparks and contains new original music recorded by Houston.
My favorite part in this how-to guide about having sex with an alien is "Treat tentacles, for example, not as an obstacle, but an opportunity," but it's all pretty great.
Washington Governor Gregoire is set to sign the marriage equality bill today, kicking off the window for opponents to begin gathering signatures for a referendum to block fairness.
The Westminster Kennel Show has replaced Pedigree with Purina as an official sponsor because Pedigree's commercials about pet adoption were too sad for the show. Critics are also claiming that Pedigree's focus on getting homes for mixed breed dogs in shelters conflicts with the purebred mission of Westminster, who denies the charge. Purina's commercials will be full of wagging tails and ball chasing.

Live From NY, It’s Jean Dujardin On ‘SNL!’ Last night’s Saturday Night Live hosted by Zooey Deschanel, with musical guest Karmin and surprise guest Jean Dujardin, drew a 5.0/12 in metered-market households, up 6% from last week. In the markets with Local People Meters, the show averaged a 3.0/12 in adults 18-49, equaling SNL‘s second highest demo rating this season, only behind the edition that followed the blockbuster NFL Wild Card playoff game. In addition to the Dujardin skit, scooped by my colleague Mike Fleming SNL‘s highlights included a 3-part parody of Clint Eastwood’s Super Bowl Chrysler commercial. (Video below)...

It feels odd and almost wrong to write about anything other than Whitney Houston right now.
The legendary singer’s sudden death hung heavy on my mind while I watched last night’s Saturday Night Live. Would they pay tribute to her? (They did, quickly and subtly, by flashing a picture of her memorable appearance in a classic Mary Katherine Gallagher sketch.) Would it feel strange to laugh considering the sad news we’d all learned just a few hours earlier before the broadcast? (The episode, despite being an overall very enjoyable one, still felt strangely disconnected from the rest...

Zooey Deschanel took the "Saturday Night Live" stage for the first time on Feb. 11, bringing her particular brand of quirky cuteness to the show.
And for the most part, she did pretty well. The show played to her comedy strengths (and poked a little bit of fun at her persona). Plus, "The Artist" star Jean Dujardin!
Here's how it played out.
Cold open
Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney tries to play off his losses in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado, but Baron the dog steals the show, barely letting Sudeikis get the "Live from New York ..." line out.
Monologue
Deschanel walks out in a red dress adorned with little white hearts. "Even though I do this a lot," she says, "it's for a special occasion." She then sings a pretty funny little song about guys who forget Valentine's Day: "I know I'm angry/But later I'll be fine/You're just a...

Here’s my solemn promise to you, “Saturday Night Live” fans: Not once during tonight’s recap will I use the word “adorkable” to describe anything related to Zooey Deschanel’s performance as host. Not gonna do it. No way, no how. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of “New Girl,” but that doesn’t mean 95% of the material written tonight for Deschanel will appeal to her manic pixie dust girl persona. Right? Right? (Please say I am right or I’m burning this site down to the virtual ground.) Tonight’s musical guest is Karmin, whom I’ve literally never heard of because I’m old...

Unless Zooey Deschanel has some charming, adorable stripper past we don’t know about, it’s safe to assume tonight’s Saturday Night Live will be very different from last week’s installment of the Channing Tatum Exotic Dancing Comedy Hour. (Although those jazz hands are pretty seductive and she did put on quite a show for Justin Long in an episode of New Girl.)
So maybe there won’t be stripping tonight, but it’s a pretty safe bet that SNL will, at the very least, have their singer/actress/cotton enthusiast host poke fun at her trademark quirkiness.

Zooey Deschanel has commented that she's had so much fun working on Saturday Night Live this week. The New Girl actress hosts SNL for the first time this weekend along with musical guests Karmin, who will also be making their debut on the late-night series. Deschanel discussed her excitement to guest host Saturday Night Live during an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (February 9), where she praised the show's staff (Us only): "I'm so excited. It's really, really fun," she told Jimmy Fallon. "Everyone's so nice. [There's a] great cast, great writers. Nice people!" Deschanel also told Fallon that she has wanted to host Saturday Night Live ever since (more)...

NBC has announced that Maya Rudolph will host "Saturday Night Live" in on February 18, 2012. Supporting her as a musical act will be the Brooklyn based band Sleigh Bells.
Rudolph, who is one of the stars of the Oscar-nominated "Bridesmaids" and currently appears on the NBC sitcom "Up All Night," was an "SNL" cast member herself from 2000 to 2007. This will be her first time hosting, although she has appeared on the show several times since leaving.
On "SNL," Rudolph was known for a wide variety of characters, including the co-host of "Bronx Beat" and her animated impersonation of Oprah Winfrey. Notably, she is the only actor to have played Michelle Obama on "SNL," in a 2008 guest appearance prior to Obama's election. It's a good bet that Rudolph will play the First Lady again when hosting. Watch her first appearance here.

Apparently the "Saturday Night Live" bookers are feeling especially nostalgic this season, because they've just booked their second former regular cast member to host the show.
Maya Rudolph will return to Studio 8H on Feb. 18 to host the show that made her famous, NBC announced. The "Up All Night" star has appeared in cameos in skits when old coworkers Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted.
Former castmate Jimmy Fallon returned to host in December. If you're really keeping track, the "Bridesmaids" star is technically the third former "SNL"er to host during Season 37, the Huffington Post notes -- Ben Stiller, who hosted in September, was a featured player for five episodes in 1989.
Brooklyn rockers Sleigh Bells will be the musical guest.

Don't worry -- adorkableness is not contagious, so you'll be able to watch Zooey Deschanel host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend (Feb. 11) without fear of contracting delightful diseases.
Unfortunately, jazz hands are, so you might have to worry about peppy dance moves. Or so we learn in the first promo for Deschanel's "SNL" hosting gig. The "New Girl" star teams up with Kenan Thompson to get us excited for this weekend's episode.
Deschanel also informs us of some enlightening Black History Month facts (Thompson isn't as well-versed, unfortunately), sings a little opera and adds to her collection of human teeth. Come on, you knew the queen of cute had a dark side. Musical guests Karmin will also be making their "SNL" debut.
