Jean-Claude Van Damme is a man known for roundhouse kicking people into oblivion, not making audiences laugh (well, not intentionally), but that doesn’t mean the iconic action star isn’t up for the challenge! Welcome To The Jungle sees Van Damme’s first purely comedic role, as he plays a motivational leader of sorts conducting a big-business team building “vacation” on a remote tropical island. He’s still a badass hero and his martial arts expertise are still called upon, but Van Damme cleverly indicates he’s keen on the satirical joke – unfortunately, he might be the only one. In the words of Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose, “Welcome to the jungle, we’ve got fun n’ games” – minus most of the “fun n’ games.”

When one of the principal actors in a film is a store-brand Seth Rogen actually playing a knock-off Seth Rogen type, you probably suspect that you're perched on one of the lower rungs of cinema hell.
When that same film wastes the assets of the perpetually misused Adam Brody (good looks, camera presence, acting skills) and reduces the magnificent Dennis Haysbert to cracking dick jokes, you have it confirmed that said film was pushed from the bowels of cinema hell.
Welcome to the Jungle, directed by Rob Meltzer from a script by Jeff Kauffmann, is satanically bad. When the head of an advertising firm (Haysbert) dispatches his underlings to a weekend camp retreat so they can bond as a team, hijinks should ensue from the clash of types, right? There's the idea-steal...

Beyond the 2008 meta-comedy drama Jcvd, I.m not sure that I.ve ever seen a movie where Jean-Claude Van Damme has actively tried to draw laughs out of audiences. Wait, you mean to tell me Double Team was a comedy? Now I have to rethink my whole life. Luckily, the above trailer for Rob Meltzer.s Welcome to the Jungle looks like a rollicking good time, assuming you don.t mind your well-casted comedies intentionally looking dumber than a box of bricks. And I don.t. With a screenplay from first-timer Jeff Kauffmann, Welcome to the Jungle is Lord of the Flies for the stereotypical office worker sect. Dennis Haysbert (24) plays a manger who decides to send his entire team out onto a motivational wilderness retreat on a remote island, only he doesn.t realize that the person he.s hired to guide them, Storm (Van Damme), might as well...

The name Jean-Claude Van Damme is synonymous with action, and every once in a while, also with comedy. Next year, Van Damme will be blending both as the lead in Welcome to the Jungle, willing to parody his own reputation as a legend of martial arts.
Van Damme stars as a deranged former Marine who is hired for a corporate retreat, with Adam Brody starring opposite as one of the workers. And with just over two months left before its limited theatrical and VOD release, the first trailer has premiered over on EW.
Van Damme and Brody are joined by Megan Boone, Kristen Schaal, Rob Huebel, Aaron Takahashi, and Dennis Haysbert, and whilst this first trailer doesn’t exactly give you the impression it’s going to be comedy gold, there’s still potential when you have a pairing like Van Damme and Brody, with Schaal along for the ride.
