"We shouldn't be here..." Netflix has released the official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Ritual, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. This horror is about a group of college friends that reunite for a camping trip in the forest, but encounter a menacing presence in the woods that's stalking them. It seems to play with the idea that "your darkest dreams await you" out there, thanks to whatever this creepy "ritual" from the title is. The main cast of The Ritual includes Rafe Spall, Robert James-Collier, Arsher Ali, and Sam Troughton. Featuring a score by Ben Lovett. I feel as if we've recently seen tons of these kind of forest/camping horror thrillers, so I'm not sure what this one offers that's new. Check this out. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for David Bruckner's The Ritual, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Reuniting...

Synchronicity

2015, USA
Shadows abound, pierced with swaths of light cut to ribbons by venetian blinds. Odd, angular futurist architecture juts into the sky, illuminated by spotlights from passing flying vehicles. There are fans slowly rotating everywhere. This is the future, after all. There must be fans. If nothing else, Synchronicity cuts an interesting shape, a quasi-dystopian future that seems devoid of affection, warmth. Taken purely on visuals, Synchronicity is top-notch. The problem, then, lies in storytelling.
Synchronicity presents a twisted, tangled pretzel of a narrative, a classic time travel thriller that loops back on itself multiple times, placing the audience in danger of crossed eyes. Narratives this complex have been attempted before, but where Synchronicity falters is how it conveys the narrative. The complex story is made more head-spinning than advisable by some unclear storytelling, making an otherwise good...

Director Dan Bush’s latest effort The Reconstruction of William Zero is a sci-fi drama that’s much heavier on the drama than on the sci-fi. It’s a film about loss and the lengths to which we will go to stop feeling grief. It’s a film about the dissolution of marriage and about facing death. It might be unbearably sad if it weren’t so well made.
Conal Byrne plays William, a geneticist and married father who one day wakes from a coma with hardly any memory of his own life. There to help him recover is a man who looks exactly like him and has unique knowledge of William’s life, including the tragedy in his past that led to a split from his wife Jules (Amy Seimetz, A Horrible Way to Die). The more William learns about himself, the more he begins to understand just how...

British culture was once open to 'messy kids' from secondary moderns. But if you want to make it in 21st century Britain, you'd best have a cut-glass accent and public school pedigree
Last week the actor Stephen McGann spoke out about how difficult it is for young people from working-class backgrounds to enter his profession. "Opportunities are closing down," he said in an interview with the Independent. "If you're a messy kid from a council estate today, I think the chances of you making it as a successful actor are a lot worse than they were."
McGann, 50, youngest of the family of acting brothers, grew up on the edge of Toxteth in Liverpool and was educated at a Catholic grammar school. "What counted for me and my brothers – and for mates of ours like David Morrissey and Ian Hart, all growing up in Dingle and Toxteth – was the real change in education,...

Emma Watson hasn't been dating Matt Janney for very long, but she's already cast a spell over his family, who are excited about the new relationship. Coralie Day, who calls herself a "second mother" to the Oxford University student, told the Evening Standard, "We are thrilled to bits that he is seeing Emma Watson. We are looking forward to meeting her soon. Hats off to her for finding such a wonderful young man. There is nothing bad anyone could say about Matt. He is absolutely lovely." Day, 57, and her husband, James, became Janney's unofficial guardians after his mother, Jill, died in 2008 when he was 16. Tragically,...

After nearly non-stop activity for the past four years, Mumford & Sons are taking a hiatus. “There won’t be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future,” the band’s keyboardist, Ben Lovett, told Rolling Stone over the weekend. The Grammy-winning British group’s last tour date for 2012’s “Babel” was in Kansas Friday night and it will be the band’ last concert for quite some time. Just how much time is anyone’s guess. When asked how long “the foreseeable future” is, Lovett said, “We have no idea. We just know we’re going to take a considerable amount of time and just...

After concluding their 'Babel' tour the Grammy winning group have revealed that they are taking a break from the music scene for an indefinite amount of time. The English band which is made up of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane made their debut in 2007. 'Babel' is their second studio album and won them the 2013 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. This past week in Bonner Springs, Kansas, Lovett revealed that the group is planning a long break: "There won't be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future following Friday's show. We have no idea [how long we'll be breaking for]. We just know we’re going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that. "It feels...

Mumford & Sons just performed its last show for the foreseeable future. The folk band announced its plans to go on an indefinite hiatus after performing its final tour date on Sept. 20 in Bonner Springs, Kans.
"There won't be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future following Friday's show," keyboardist Ben Lovett tells Rolling Stone. "We have no idea [when we'll start up again]. We just know we're going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that."
During Mumford & Sons' rise to fame, the band won several Grammys, but also faced down a health scare with bassist Ted Dwane. It's been an eventful past year for sure, and Lovett seems happy to be taking the time off.

The bearded Grammy winners need some time off to sit out on the porch, loosen their suspenders, and drink a little moonshine out of a mason jar (or whatever these guys actually like to do). "There won’t be any Mumford & Sons activities for the foreseeable future," keyboardist Ben Lovett told Rolling Stone. Fans and haters want to know: How long is this foreseeable future? "We have no idea. We just know we’re going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that," said Lovett. New York — Mumford & Sons were in the tennis spirit at the reopening of the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium in Queens.
The Grammy-winning British rockers performed a sold-out concert Wednesday for 16,000 fans at the stadium's West Side Tennis Club, which hosted the U.S. Open until 1978. Near the end of their set, the foursome played tennis onstage – using a racket at times, and a guitar and banjo at others. They also threw balls to fans in the crowd.
Mumford & Sons played the first concert at the 90-year-old stadium, where acts from Jimi Hendrix to the Beatles to the Rolling Stones performed. It was the first show at the historic venue in more than 20 years.
Mumford & Sons electrified the crowd – even when it rained lightly – playing the well-known rock hits "Little Lion Man," "I Will Wait" and "The Cave" as well as other songs from their two multiplatinum albums.

Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Ed Helms and Will Forte aren't in Mumford & Sons, but they play the group in the band's new video for "Hopeless Wanderer." The clip for Mumford & Sons' latest single off the 2012 album "Babel" features the four funnymen as arch versions of Marcus Mumford (Sudeikis), Ted Dwane (Forte), Winston Marshall (Bateman) and Ben Lovett (Helms). It's pretty much perfect, if only for Helms' entire existence (check the photo below for an example). Not that anyone should be surprised to find out that the Nard Dog likes Mumford.

Is there anything worse than a thriller that doesn’t thrill? Well, I’m pretty sure you can think of things comparable and worse, but it still ranks pretty low. Katie Aselton’s Black Rock is such a film. It wants to get your blood pumping, it wants to have you caught up in the narrative, but these things it cannot do because it’s what is known as a “by the numbers” film where the audience is always two steps ahead of the characters. You know what they’re going to do before they do it, even if it’s a really bad decision. As you can imagine, this doesn’t exactly make for a particularly engrossing experience.
The film follows the story of three women, Abby (Katie Aselton), Lou (Lake Bell), and Sarah (Kate Bosworth), who come together to go on vacation to a small, remote island. Two...

The new Mumford & Sons video for the song "Babel" sees the band's four men on an infinite loop, with each pouring his entire body into the music on every glimpse. The black-and-white clip is set in a rustic-looking building with derelict walls, and even the piano Ben Lovett plays looked blighted.
It's a fitting image for a song that repeats the line "The walls of my town, they come crumbling down."
"Babel" marks the band's fourth single from the Grammy-winning album of the same name. The first two releases, "I Will Wait" and "Lover of the Light," both cracked the Top 5 on the U.S. Alternative Songs chart.
The album, released in September 2012, is currently the third best-selling record of the year, behind Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" and Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox." In its 40th week of release, "Babel" currently sits at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

You just can't keep a good folk rocker down. Mumford & Sons's bassist Ted Dwane returned to the stage in Somerset, England, Sunday night, for the first time since being hospitalized in early June for emergency surgery to remove a blood clot on the surface of his brain. Before taking the stage Sunday, Dwane told the BBC that providing the final performance at this year's Glastonbury music festival had been dominating his thoughts. "The last few weeks have been a bit weird and we had to cancel a couple of shows at the end of our last U.S. tour," he said backstage.

There are two main challenges with most independent films – time and money. But whether you are dealing with a big budget studio blockbuster or small independent fare, music is usually the last thing to be added and usually puts composers up against tight deadlines with little money left to work with. Brian Tyler, who recently composed the music for Iron Man 3, commented that no matter what kind of movie you are working on, “It’s a race and there’s really no time to second-guess yourself on a movie, regardless of the scale, when the time crunch is upon you.” This race against time is a common adversary for almost all composers, but this time crunch seems especially heightened when it comes to independent films. To dive in to this issue further, I spoke with Ben Lovett who composed the music for two independent films released last year, Sun Don’t Shine and Black Rock. Independent films...

Mumford & Sons' sophomore album, "Babel," was a huge success for the band -- hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and getting certified platinum. The album earned Mumford & Sons six Grammy award nominations, taking the award for Album of the Year.

Marcus Mumford may be the frontman of Mumford & Sons (and likely the only member general audiences can name), but the band's new music video for "Whispers in the Dark" also highlights band members Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane, as they apply fake beards, run in slow-motion, and explore a ship. Pop-folk combination on Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack will pave way for change of direction on third Mumford & Sons album
Justin Timberlake and Marcus Mumford have recorded music together for the new Coen brothers movie, Inside Llewyn Davis. News of the pop-folk collaboration comes as Mumford & Sons describe plans to change their sound and make their third album a "departure".
It's not really a bombshell that Timberlake is contributing to the soundtrack for Inside Llewyn Davis: the singer already has an acting role in the film, playing a character called Jim Berkey. But Mumford's involvement – and the Timberlake team-up – comes as a surprise. Until now, the folkie's only link to the film was through Timberlake's co-star, Carey Mulligan, who happens to be Mumford's wife.

"I do feel like we're ready to make the departure," adds Lovett. "There's definitely cohesion between the two albums [2010's Sigh No More and Babel]. Now that we've done that, we're not desperate to walk away from that sound, but we're willing to explore what else we could do. These two albums are like brothers. Do something that's a cousin."

Mumford & Son’s Grammy Award for album of the year for “Babel” hasn’t even had time to gather dust, and yet the British quintet is already thinking about its third album and it sounds like it’s time for a little something different. If your album only wins one Grammy, Album of the Year is not a bad one to get. Just ask Mumford & Sons, whose second studio album, "Babel," was the somewhat surprising 2013 Grammy winner for Album of the Year.
The British folk rock band wound up beating out The Black Keys, Frank Ocean, fun. and Jack White when it counted most.
The Black Keys' "El Camino" was looking like the favorite after winning Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for the single "Lonely Boy" earlier in the evening.
Frank Ocean picked up Best Urban Contemporary Album for his critically acclaimed "Channel Orange," while fun. nabbed Best New Artist and Song of the Year (a songwriting award, not to be confused with Record of the Year which honors the best single) for "We Are Young." White, sadly, went home empty handed (although he already has six...

We'll have to wait to see if Mumford & Sons takes home Album of the Year. But we do know one thing: Their 2013 Grammys performance rocked. The band (Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane) hit the stage to perform "I Will Wait" off their (what else) Grammy nominated album, Babel. Equipped with their trusty guitars and backed by some glaring bright lights, the band brought down the house. Just ask one apparent fan: Taylor Swift! The fellow performer was spotted jamming out in the audience while they played.

Mumford & Sons have revealed they may use synthesizers on their third album. According to lead singer Marcus Mumford, the band might go in a new electronic direction for the next project. Mumford spoke about the potential innovation to Style magazine, saying: "We've always done what feels good, rather than what we've thought long and hard about, and we'll do whatever feels soulful next, whether that's with an electric guitar or a synthesizer." Band member Ben Lovett added: "It's dangerous (more)...

Mumford & Sons lead singer Marcus Mumford says the 12-time Grammy-nominated outfit will explore the electronic side of music on their next album, telling Style magazine (via NME) that the band will do "whatever feels soulful."
That would mark a significant shift for the group. Mumford & Sons is known for a feel-good blend of folk and rock. Pop music has fallen victim to the explosion of electronic dance music in America, with everyone from Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber to Usher and Rihanna going all-in on big, booming synth lines and breakdowns.
While it's unclear and, perhaps, unlikely that Mumford & Sons would so dramatically change their style, Mumford's quote has been met with some skepticism online. In a Christmas Day post on Ology.com, one critic had this to say of the possible addition of synthesizers:
Yes, the dreaded s-word. The sane, rational part of my brain says Mumford is just...

They have entertained Barack Obama at the White House and their latest album Babel is the fastest-selling in the Us this year. How have four polite Englishmen made their hoedown folk such a hit?
Soundcheck for the band, today, takes place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It is late afternoon and while the arena's 17,000 outdoor seats are still empty the four members of Mumford & Sons – prospering British folk band, in the middle of a long tour of Australia, the Us and the UK, their newly released album Babel a smash on all fronts – wander to centre stage. First singer and guitarist Marcus Mumford, wearing a black suit, then bassist Ted Dwane, in leather bomber and T-shirt. Next bearded banjo player Winston Marshall, his blue flannel shirt hanging loose, and pianist Ben Lovett, wrapped in a woollen coat.

The album Babel is already a hit for the British band Mumford & Sons, and they continue to be at the forefront of great folk rock. Now the band is taking to film with a concert film called The Road to Red Rocks, a concert film chronicling their U.S. tour which has been named The Gentlemen of the Road tour. The film goes behind the scenes of life on tour, including interviews with of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, "Country" Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane. And of course, it also features footage from their two-night pair of shows at Colorado's Red Rocks amphitheater (hence the title). It looks like it will be a treat for fans. Here's the trailer for Mumford & Sons' concert film The Road to Red Rocks via Rolling Stone: The documentary isn't hitting theaters sadly, but we love Mumford & Sons so much, we thought this deserved to be...

It’s a good week to be in Mumford & Sons. In addition to scoring the year’s best-selling opening sales week with “Babel,” the group has landed another coup: Six songs from “Babel” are on the current Billboard Hot 100 chart, making M&S the first band to land a sextet of songs on the chart simultaneously since the Beatles 48 years ago. The band's Ben Lovett has jokingly referred to M&S as "a poor man's version of the Beatles," after portraying a Beatles cover band on "Saturday Night Live." Now they’re linked in a way he could have never imagined. In addition...

This is a good time to be in Mumford & Sons. The band -- comprised of lead singer Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane -- released Babel, their sophomore album, on Tuesday, and early sales numbers are through the roof. According to Billboard, Mumford & Sons could sell over 600,000 copies of Babel, including 400,000 digital copies -- the second largest total ever. (Interestingly enough, the deluxe edition of Babel costs more as an .mp3 download on Amazon.com than it does as a CD.)
September has been kind to Mumford & Sons. Last Saturday, the band appeared on "Saturday Night Live" and performed two songs off Babel: "I Will Wait" and "Below My Feet." At a concert on Monday, Levitt joked that Mumford & Sons was done making music. Wait until he sees the sales figures.
Babel follows the 2009 album Sigh No More.

Sigh no more, Mumford & Sons fans: The folk rock balladeers have finally released a new album. Out Tuesday, Babel is the band's follow-up to Sigh No More, the 2009 record that featured songs "Little Lion Man," "The Cave" and "Awake My Soul." Sigh No More gave Mumford & Sons a larger profile here in America, something the band (made up of lead singer Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane) has capitalized on with nationwide tour dates and, most recently, an appearance on last weekend's "Saturday Night Live."
Mumford & Sons is having a moment ... so does that mean the band will go out on top? Lovett joked that Babel would be their last album together at a concert on Monday night. Per NME:
After one fan heckled the band, shouting that it had taken "ages" to make the follow up to their 2009 debut 'Sigh No More,' multi-instrumentalist Ben Lovett apologised,...

Mumford & Sons have gone on the offensive against their critics, saying that they can "f**k off" if they don't like their music. The band were speaking ahead of the launch of their second album Babel, set to be released on Monday (September 24). The Sun reports that drummer and accordion player Ben Lovett was defensive about the criticism they have received from 'folk purists', saying: "The cynics can just all f**k off." He continued: "We think this new record will attract a different audience which is really exciting. And broaden people's view of us." Guitarist Ted (more)...

Mumford & Sons kicked off its 15-day U.S. tour by playing in New Jersey for the very first time Wednesday night. An estimated 15,000 people attended the showing at Pier A in Hoboken, gratefully closing umbrellas and removing plastic ponchos right before the lights shined and the New York skyline glared straight on back. Marcus Mumford and his gentleman Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane and Winston Marshall took the stage with banjos in hand at about 8:30 and closed out the night promptly at 10. They introduced new songs that will appear on their next album in September, all the while confirming to fans that if you show up to a Mumford concert, you are bound to do a little jig and leave the stadium wanting more.
Listeners packed in at Pier A to do some dancing (with an addition of some rubbing elbows), proving that Hoboken should continue to use the stunning spot for future events.

How do you follow-up a Grammy-nominated debut album? With a Grammy-nominated sophomore album, of course! If you're planning to participate in a Grammy pool next year, you should probably wager a few bucks on Mumford and Sons' upcoming album Babel.
While the British quartet failed to take home a golden gramophone last year for their smashing debut album Sigh No More -- even Grammy goddess Adele called it her favorite album -- Marcus Mumford and the boys may have another shot with their highly anticipated second release.
Mumford and Sons will release Babel on Sept. 25, the same day that both the new Green Day album ¡Uno! and the new No Doubt album, Push and Shove, drop.
Mumford and Sons issued the following statement regarding Babel's upcoming release:
"We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record. At first, we peeled ourselves off the road quite reluctantly.

Mumford & Sons joined Bruce Springsteen onstage Monday night to perform his 1980 hit, "Hungry Heart." The Boss was headlining Dutch festival Pinkpop and invited the British folk rockers to sing with him during his encore performance.
Springteen played a 23-song, two-hour-and-18 minute set, which included classics like "Born To Run" and "Dancing In The Dark" and new songs off his latest Ep, Wrecking Ball, reports NME.
Earlier at Pinkpop, Mumford & Sons revealed that their follow-up record to their 2009 hit, Sigh No More, would be released on September 24.
