Comic book author Brian Michael Bendis has set a first-look deal with Amazon is already developing three TV series under the new pact based on his previous works: “Jinx,” “Murder Inc.” and “Pearl.”
“Jinx” is a crime-ridden love story unfolding on a high stakes treasure hunt, per Amazon’s series description. Our players are: Jinx Alameda, a bounty hunter at the top of her game who’s tired of her grimy life; Goldfish, a charming con man and wanted felon who falls head over heels for Jinx; and Columbia, Goldfish’s loose-cannon partner, who has big criminal dreams. Their paths join when they’re pulled into a search for missing mob money — a payout so big that it lures them away from the familiar streets of Cleveland, into a dangerous, unpredictable misadventure that will change the course of their lives.
“Jinx” is executive produced by Bendis along with showrunners Ayelet Waldman and Michael Chabon.

More than 13 years after government minister Jeremy Hunt stood up in Parliament to announce the abolition of the UK Film Council (UKFC), the body held its first reunion.

Charlie Dominici, former singer of progressive-metal titans Dream Theater, has died at the age of 72. His passing was reported on Facebook by Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy.
Dominici was Dream Theater’s second singer, replacing original vocalist Chris Collins, and was a member of the band from 1987 to 1989. His vocals appear on Dream Theater’s debut album, 1989’s When Dream and Day Unite. After he parted ways with the band, Dream Theater tapped James Labrie as their lead singer, and their career took off from there, beginning with their legendary sophomore album, 1992’s Images and Words.
Portnoy’s full post reads as follows:
“I am devastated to share the news of the passing of former Dream Theater singer Charlie Dominici. Charlie was the voice of Dt on our debut album ‘When Dream And Day Unite’, recorded back in 1988. Beyond being a great singer, he also was an incredibly talented songwriter...

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we're kicking off Wick Week with a look back at one of the most exhilarating sequences in the entire franchise: the knife fight in "John Wick: Chapter 3 -- Parabellum.")
It's not happenstance that the "John Wick" movies have exploded in popularity since first arriving on the scene in 2014. Set entirely in New York City and incredibly thin in terms of actual plot, the small-scale original nonetheless is an action masterclass, plunging audiences into an entirely new world with its own unique rules. With each and every installment that's followed, the Keanu Reeves-starring franchise has upped the ante in terms of both scope and scale. Where the first mostly kept the action constrained to various set pieces of Wick taking on hordes of bad guys while armed with a single firearm,...

Peacock’s Bel-Air is nearly matching the number of seasons with its showrunners.
The NBCUniversal-backed streamer has handed out a third-season renewal for its reimagining of Will Smith’s beloved The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The dramatic take on the former comedy series that is inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral short was originally picked up at Peacock with a two-season order following a competitive bidding process with other streamers vying for the series.
The season three renewal marks its first vote of confidence beyond that initial order and follows a wave of showrunner changes as the drama struggled to find its creative voice. Carla Banks Waddles was recruited as showrunner at the start of season two. The Good Girls and The Soul Man alum was promoted from co-exec producer to showrunner and replaced T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson (Army Wives, Lie to Me) at the helm of Bel-Air.

NBCUniversal’s Peacock service has yet to score a breakthrough hit comparable to its streaming rivals. But the first-time showrunners of the Will Smith-produced “Bel-Air” are bullish about their ability to do so, given its iconic roots and the marketing push surrounding its Super Bowl Sunday debut.
“I love our position,” says Rasheed Newson, co-showrunner with T.J. Brady, his longtime writing partner, who suggests that the show could provide a transformative role on the service akin to “Breaking Bad” on AMC during its early forays into original programming.
NBC will air a custom spot during the big game on Feb. 13 to encourage pigskin viewers to sample the show, a dark reimagining of 1990s hit sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” that was inspired by Morgan Cooper’s 2019 viral video revisiting the NBC series that starred Smith. Peacock also hosted a Philadelphia-flavored premiere party Feb. 9, promotional tie-ins and social media takeover ad campaigns.

Peacock's Bel-Air has found its lead.
Actor Jabari Banks is set to lead the cast of the reboot of the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Peacock dropped the announcement alongside a video of Will Smith telling the actor his life was about to change.
“Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air,” reads the show’s official logline.
“With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.”

The tail-end of last year saw the release of Johnnie To’s “Chasing Dream”, whereas this year already we have had “The Grand Grandmaster” and “Knockout” both represent the sport. First-time writers and directors Kwok Ka-hae and Ambrose Kwok also try their hand at the sub-genre with their Hong Kong-China co-production “Unleashed”.

Peacock has announced that it has officially ordered two seasons of the previously-rumored Fresh Prince of Bel-Air dramatic reboot known as Bel-Air. The reboot will be based on the 2019 viral short, Bel-Air, by Morgan Cooper. The short was a parody trailer that put a dramatic twist on the comedic premise of the original sitcom. The trailer would go on to garner six million views on YouTube and famously gained the attention of star Will Smith.
Not only did Smith endorse Cooper’s concept but he also helped shepherd it into an actual reboot via he and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Westbrook Studios imprint. Smith today revealed Bel-Air’s pickup to Cooper and the world at large through his social media feeds. You can watch the YouTube announcement below.
Smith will stay on as an executive producer through Westbrook Studios. Universal Studios will produce as well.

Check your egos at the door. Will Smith made the right choice Joyce. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast will reunite for an unscripted special to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the series and the cultural impact it’s had since its debut. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special is set to tape on Sept. 10, 30 years to the day it launched on NBC in 1990. The reunion special was developed by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s media company Westbrook Media, and will debut exclusively on HBO Max around Thanksgiving.
The entire Banks family is coming back to the hood. Will Smith will be joined by series regulars Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Viv No. 2), and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton). Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv No. 1, didn’t show up to the 2017 cast reunion and probably won’t be involved in the reunion.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is set to once again make the television landscape into its kingdom. However, it will do so in a tonally-divergent fashion from the classic 1990-1996 sitcom.
The reboot will be based on the 2019 viral short, Bel-Air (which you can view below), by Morgan Cooper. The short was a parody trailer that put a contemporary dramatic twist on the intended comedic premise of the original sitcom, and famously gained the attention of star Will Smith, who referred to it as “an idea that’s brilliant.” Now, said idea will yield the patronage of megastar Smith, whose shingle with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, Westbrook Studios, is teaming with Universal Television to bring Bel-Air to life and pitch the project to several outlets and streamers, some of which, according to THR, include Peacock (streamer of the original show’s NBC home), Netflix and HBO Max.

“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is getting a reboot, but its life is getting flipped-turned upside down. That’s because the new version being developed re-imagines the Will Smith comedy as a drama, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
“Bel-Air” is based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube video from 2019, in which the self-described “Fresh Prince” superfan created a trailer that imagined if the series were a drama. The one-hour drama leans into the original premise of the series — in which Will Smith’s character was relocated from the streets of West Philadelphia to the wealthy Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel-Air — but dives deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.

Flat-footed storytelling meets fleet-footed choreography and sumptuous production values in the untaxingly fun “Ip Man 4: The Finale,” the last installment of director Wilson Yip and producer-star Donnie Yen’s glossy mythmaking tetralogy about the famous Wing Chun master.
The insistent subtitle is there for a reason: everyone, Yen included, thought that “Ip Man 3” would be his last time donning Ip Man’s priestlike tunic. Then again, after “Ip Man 2,” still the best in the franchise, Yen was also reportedly reluctant to return. A little like the great, wise, noble sifu (“master-father”) he so convincingly embodies, Yen apparently only re-enters the fray when circumstances (read: box office) leave him no other option.
The problem, then, is how to sustain a story that had largely run out of arc by the bruising climax of the last film? The solution the regular team of screenwriters — Edmond Wong, Chan Tai-lee, Jil Leung,...
