William Shakespeare rather definitively defined Richard the Third as a deformed, conniving, duplicitous and altogether unsavory monarch in his 1485 play, and the man’s image as such has persisted ever since.
But that all changed nearly a decade ago when an obscure amateur historian sniffed around and ultimately uncovered the burial site beneath a downtown Leicester parking lot, a story that has now been beguilingly recounted in The Lost King. It’s a modest but thoroughly captivating tale that has the look and feel of so many good British films of 25 or 30 years ago, a quality that can no doubt be significantly attributed to that reliable all-rounder Stephen Frears at the helm.

Don’t believe everything you read. More than a hundred years after King Richard III was killed during the Battle of Bosworth Field, the last important fight of the War of the Roses and widely considered the end of the Middle Ages, William Shakespeare wrote his “Richard III,” which dramatized the king’s life, works, and death, turning him into something of a monster in the process. But what if, Stephen Frears’ “The Lost King” wonders, everything we thought we know about Richard, much of it straight from The Bard’s pen itself, was wrong indeed?
Many people have noodled on that same thing in the centuries since his death, including the nearly century-old Richard III Society, which is comprised of not just fans of the ruler, but fans who are dedicated to reassessing his reputation. But “The Lost King” is mostly concerned with just one fan: Philippa Langley, a...

Williams, who turns 41 this month, had previously said she was “evolving” away from playing professional tennis following her storied career that included 23 Grand Slam titles, second only to the 24 earned by Margaret Court. After losing Friday, Williams was in tears and said it was unlikely she would reconsider her plan to walk away from the game.
She also praised her family members including older sister and fellow tennis superstar Venus Williams,...

The Crow reimagining is finally happening for real this time, as The Hollywood Reporter also notes that the film is “now weeks-deep in production in the Czech Republic.”

Bad Boys actor Martin Lawrence has weighed in on the future of the franchise in the wake of co-star Will Smith’s slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
In a recent interview with Ebony, the actor dismissed the notion that the slap has put an end to plans for the fourth Bad Boys film, first announced in 2020. “We got one more at least,” he claimed.
Lawrence’s comments were in line with those of Sony chairman and CEO Tom Rothman, who said in a recent interview with Deadline that the idea the brakes have been pumped on the sequel is “inaccurate.”
“That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving,” said Rothman. “That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that...

Exclusive: In what is sure to heat up the marketplace right before the holiday weekend, sources tell Deadline Logan Lerman and Phoebe Dynevor are attached to star in the romcom The Threesome with Chad Hartigan directing. Ethan Ogilby penned the script with King Richard production company Star Thrower producing.
Described as a high-concept, character-driven comedy in the vein of Knocked Up, the film explores the aftermath of one impulsive, seemingly innocuous decision. When a young man’s perennial crush leads him into an unexpected threesome, he thinks it’s his ultimate fantasy come true. But when the fantasy ends, all three are left with sobering real-world consequences, forcing them to take responsibility for their actions — even if it means compromising the lives they’ve always envisioned.
The package went out on the marketplace earlier this week and has already drawn interest from a handful of suitors.

The 2022 BET Awards are being handed out Sunday night.
The show kicked off with host Taraji P. Henson, presenter Janelle Monae and best female R&b/pop artist winner Jazmine Sullivan all addressing the recent Supreme Court decision to reverse the Roe v. Wade ruling within the first 17 minutes of the show.
“Guns have more rights than a woman,” Henson said in her monologue. “It’s a sad day in America. A weapon that can take lives has more power than woman who can give life, if she chooses to.”
Monae gave the middle finger and said, “Fuck you, Supreme Court” (the swear word was bleeped), while Sullivan called on males to support females in fighting for their rights.
Heading into the show, Doja Cat leads the nominations with a total of six mentions, including best female R&b/pop artist and best female hip-hop artist.

History is the story of men: an unending chronological spiral of Kings, Emperors, Chieftans and Pharoahs all hellbent on spilling their rivals’ blood. This focus is understandable enough, but Phillipa Gregory, in her series of novels The Cousin’s War, shines light on the women behind the famous men: the various queens, dowagers and princesses who have their own vicious battles to fight.
The White Princess is the sequel to the BBC/Starz 2013 co-production The White Queen. Set during the War of the Roses, that miniseries followed Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beauford and Anne Neville, three noblewomen with their eye on the English Crown. That series concluded with the Battle of Bosworth Field, in which Henry Tudor defeated King Richard III and claimed the throne of England by right of conquest.
This picks up immediately afterwards, with the victorious Tudor family consolidating their claim...

By 1913, the American film industry had been around for over twenty years. In 1909 Carl Laemmle, a renegade and maverick movie mogul and film distributor, founded his own company in New York — the Yankee Film Company. Laemmle also started producing movies in Fort Lee, New Jersey that same year. His first company was called the Independent Motion Pictures (Imp) Company, aka Imp Studios. Soon however, Laemmle would be making plans to journey West where he would expand his film production and in 1912 co-founded the Universal Film Manufacturing Co.

Thirty years since it ended, we revisit much-loved 80s historical fantasy series Robin Of Sherwood...
The Robin Hood legend has been retold in countless ways, but one of the most memorable of modern times is Richard Carpenter’s hugely influential 1980s imagining, telling the story of Sherwood’s band of outlaws with a combination of realism and luminous fantasy with its roots in British folklore.
Made by Htv in association with production company Goldcrest Films (which was also behind Chariots Of Fire and Gandhi), its 26 episodes ran on ITV from 1984 to 1986, garnering a positive critical reception and inspiring a fan following that’s still enthusiastically active today.
Much of the success of the show was down to the spot-on casting and the chemistry between the performers. Michael Praed’s charismatic-yet-otherworldly presence as Robin was the perfect match for the show’s aesthetic, and the more down-to-earth Little John,...

Sometimes, the best of intentions don't always lead to the best movie. Here are 19 films where everything didn't quite go to plan...
As Alan Parker said ‘no one sets out to make a bad film’. Yet in spite of good intentions, sometimes a project doesn't quite go to plan. We're going to look at a bunch of movies here that aren't always well liked, and give a flavour of the problems the beset them.
So, in no particular order, here are twenty of the films that have ever been made, which are considered by at least one sentient being to be bad. That's not the interesting thing about them....
Robin Hood (2010)
Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris had written a spec script with a twist on the Robin Hood legend: the Sheriff of Nottingham was the hero, a sort of medieval forensic investigator, and Robin was the bad guy.

Among the crown jewels of Scream Factory’s ever-growing library of classic horror titles on Blu-ray (and some not-so-classic) are their Vincent Price Collection boxed sets, collecting many of the icon’s greatest films including most of the Roger Corman “Poe cycle”, as well as other goodness like the Dr. Phibes movies and the brilliant Witchfinder General. Not only do these collections celebrate one of the greatest icons the genre has ever known, but also honor a kind of old-school horror of which we don’t see enough anymore.
But by the recently released Vincent Price Collection III, the third collection of Price movies on Blu-ray, Scream Factory has had to dig up some fairly esoteric titles, not all of which can be considered horror. Unfortunately, Theater of Blood is still nowhere to be found on Blu-ray and Kino Lorber has the rights for anthologies like Tales of Terror and Twice Told Tales,...

Timothy Omundson is singing a most happy tune.
Even though ABC’s Galavant is wrapping its sophomore staging this Sunday at 8/7c, the veteran actor cannot say enough about the ambitious musical-comedy, which this season pumped in a lot of heart on top of hummable tunes and anachronistic humor.
As deposed King Richard and his bestie Galavant ready to lead a zombie army into war with Madalena and Gareth’s kingdom of Valencia, the Psych alum shared with TVLine the story of the months-long journey that led him to revisit his love of musical-theater. (Now if only Omundson’s missus...

Had Timothy Omundson listened to his parents growing up, he’d probably be working for Microsoft. Luckily Omundson, who who plays the self-proclaimed evil King Richard on “Galavant,” decided to go a different direction. “I was galloping a Friesen stallion while wearing armor through the Moroccan desert,” Omundson told TheWrap’s “Drinking With the Stars.” “This is what I do for a living. How the hell did that happen?” Also Read: 'Galavant' Cast Teases 5 Things to Expect on ABC's Musical Event Series “Galavant,” a musical packed into a comedy set in a Medieval fairy tale kingdom, is returning...

Initially written off as a winter hiatus-filling lark, ABC’s Galavant with its first season surprised and delighted many, marrying broad comedy and manic musical numbers in a manner akin to Robin Hood: Men in Tights or The Life of Brian.

So positive was the reception that the tongue-in-cheek fantasy saga is back this Sunday at 8/7c for five weeks’ worth of back-to-back episodes, picking up with half-baked hero Galavant (played by Joshua Sasse) and unseated King Richard (Timothy Omundson) allying to get back the girl (imprisoned Princess Isabella,...

Seven episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
It’s been a lonely, quiet year without the screwball charm of ABC’s Galavant on television. Although the first season of the “musical comedy extravaganza” somewhat fizzled out by the end of its truncated eight-episode run, its underlying silly spirit carried a lot of weight in sticking everything from the show’s characters to its songs and jokes inside of your head long after its January finale. Galavant‘s second season improves upon that memorably anarchic humor in a way that feels revitalized and once again energetic, for the first seven episodes at least.
And if you think creator Dan Fogelman and composers Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are just gonna regurgitate the same ballads from last year, think again. The minute Galavant (Joshua Sasse) begins belting the show’s classic tune in order to appease a seasick King Richard (Timothy Omundson...
