His technical experience in the '80s also included stints at MCC and IBM where he was assigned to programs ranging from developing artificial intelligence systems to teaching and implementing statistical process control for engineering groups. He was recruited into the Equities Division at Goldman Sachs, where he worked from 1994 to 2000 and was named one of the firm's youngest Vice Presidents. Upon Goldman Sachs' IPO, Sharath formed his own investment trading firm, eventually turning it into one of the nation's top investment advisers (#2 in 2005, and #1 in 2006 and 2007, according to Bloomberg Wealth Manager).
After selling his firm, Sharath entered academia and served as the Dean's Executive Professor of Finance at Santa Clara University and as a Visiting Scholar/Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of California where he has taught investment theory, corporate finance, applied portfolio management, and endowment management. Sharath also serves as an Executive Advisory Board Member of the University of California's proposed School of Management in Silicon Valley, the Arditti Center for Risk Management in Chicago, Opal's Financial Forums, and the UCSC Center for International Economics.
As an internationally recognized expert on the global economy and capital markets, Sharath is a frequently invited speaker at various prominent venues, and has been quoted as an expert source in Bloomberg, Wealth Manager Magazine, MarketWatch, Fund Strategy Magazine, Lipper, MindWorks, San Jose Business Journal, Crain's Chicago Business, and Hedgeworld, among others.
Since 2010, Sharath has been a private investor and is involved with and funds projects with a particular bias toward those that have positive social impact. A noted philanthropist, Sharath has been a major sponsor and/or participated in Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, South Shore Drill Team, and the University of California.
He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Medical Research Institute Council of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Deputy Sheriff (Honorary), and previously served on the Executive Committee of the San Jose Police Officer Association's Charitable Foundation.
