The Talk is coming to an end: CBS revealed Friday that its daytime talk show has been picked up for a 15th and final season and will wrap its run in December.
“The Talk broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning daytime talk to CBS with a refreshing and award-winning format,” according to a joint statement from Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, President, CBS Studios. “Throughout the years, it has been a key program on CBS’ top rated daytime lineup as it brought timely, important and entertaining topics and discussions into living rooms around the globe.”
“It goes without saying that hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy task, and we express our sincere gratitude to our amazing hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood, our Executive Producer/Showrunner Rob Crabbe and the hardworking producing team and crew,...

With CBS in “accelerated development” on “The Gates,” which, if picked up to series, would become the network’s first new daytime soap opera since launching “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987, many in the entertainment industry have questioned what that means for “The Talk,” the daytime talk show that replaced the long-running drama series “As The World Turns,” which concluded its run after more than 54 years on the network in September 2010.
Currently in its 14th season, “The Talk” ranks as the third most watched daytime talk show, behind only ABC’s “The View” and syndicated talker “Live with Kelly and Mark.” Despite that, the show is currently down double digits among Total Viewers and the key Women 18-49 sales demographic, often ranking at the bottom half in both categories among all daytime broadcast shows and has remained CBS’ least-watched and lowest-rated daytime series overall since it premiered in October 2010.

CBS announced some promising news for the future of daytime dramas last week when it revealed plans to develop a new sudser that would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.
Dubbed The Gates, the serial is from Michele Val Jean, who has written more than 2,000 episodes of daytime dramas and won multiple Daytime Emmys for her work on The Bold & The Beautiful and General Hospital. She will serve as writer and showrunner and will also executive producer alongside CBS Studios NAACP Venture President Sheila Ducksworth, along with Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.
What CBS didn’t say, however, is how long each episode of the soap would be — though it’s looking to be an hour a day — and where (or when) it would go on the schedule should it earn a series pickup. Dropping The Young and the Restless is...

The Talk is finally coming back.
The CBS daytime talk show has set its season premiere – returning on Monday October 9.
It comes after much back and forth for the show, as a result of the writers strike and the fallout that involved a slew of daytime shows including The Drew Barrymore Show, which had planned to return before the writers had a deal.
Deadline revealed on September 9 that The Talk was planning to return on September 18.
However, a week later, after WGA picketers had targeted the show outside CBS Radford and Barrymore had been shamed into postponing her own return, The Talk decided to postpone its comeback.

CBS has reversed its plan to premiere The Talk on Monday.
“The Talk is pausing its season premiere scheduled for September 18, CBS said in a statement. We will continue to evaluate plans for a new launch date.”
The announcement follows Drew Barrymore’s decision today to pause the return of her self-titled talk show Monday as well, amid WGA backlash. The Drew Barrymore Show is produced and distributed by CBS Media Ventures.
WGA picketers had targeted The Talk outside CBS Radford since it was announced that the show planned to return.

Update: CBS has confirmed Deadline’s scoop that The Talk will return to air on September 18. It comes as WGA writers picketed a run-through outside CBS Radford.
Exclusive (9/11/23): Drew Barrymore is not the only daytime talk show host returning to air.
Deadline hears that CBS’ The Talk is gearing up to return to the studio. We understand there are plans to launch the new season of the show on September 18. CBS declined to comment.
It comes after Barrymore and her show were picketed by WGA members in New York on their first day of filming amid dual labor actions.
Over the weekend, Barrymore addressed her decision to return to work, saying that she “owns this choice”.
The View, with hosts including Whoopi Goldberg, has also been regularly picketed by the WGA. Live with Kelly and Mark, hosted by actors Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, also returned recently with its 36th season.

Update Sept. 13, 2:15 p.m.: As Variety reported on Monday, CBS is prepping to bring back its daytime yakker “The Talk” on Monday, Sept. 18 — and now it’s official. The Eye network, which earlier on Wednesday announced all of its daytime premieres except “The Talk,” has now confirmed that it will also return on Monday, both on CBS and Paramount+. The show airs weekdays at 2 p.m. Et / 1 p.m. Pt.
CBS didn’t share any further details about guests for the first episode, which now comes the same day that “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will also be back with new episodes in first-run syndication. Like those shows, “The Talk” operates under the SAG-AFTRA Network Code, allowing talk show hosts to continue in that role.
News comes as “The Talk” shot a rehearsal show on Wednesday, some of which may be used later on an episode.

“American Ninja Warrior” host and former NFL player Akbar Gbajabiamila has joined CBS’ “The Talk” for Season 12, mere days after Elaine Welteroth’s exit from the daytime talk show and not long after co-host Carrie Ann Inaba announced she would not be returning following a leave of absence. Gbajabiamila will host alongside Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and Jerry O’Connell, making his official debut on Monday, Sept. 13. Previously, he had appeared as a guest co-host on multiple Season 11 episodes in June and July.
With his addition, the hosts will be evenly split between men and women.

“The Talk” just achieved the 50/50 gender parity no one even knew it was going for: “American Ninja Warrior” personality Akbar Gbajabiamila is joining the CBS talk show as a permanent co-host for Season 12.
Gbajabiamila is essentially replacing Elaine Welteroth, who stepped down from the dais on Tuesday.
In July, Jerry O’Connell effectively replaced Sharon Osbourne, a deal first reported by TheWrap. Gbajabiamila joins fellow (relative) newbie O’Connell on the program, as well as veterans Sheryl Underwood and Amanda Kloots.
Gbajabiamila, a former NFL linebacker, has guest co-hosted “The Talk” multiple times this summer. Season 12 premieres Monday, Sept. 13.

"It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for."

Following the footsteps of her (now former) co-host Carrie Ann Inaba, “Project Runway” host and New York Times bestselling author Elaine Welteroth will be exiting “The Talk.” She was on the chat show for one season, and with her exit, the daytime CBS staple is now down three hosts — Welteroth, Inaba, and Sharon Osbourne, the latter whom made her exit after defending Piers Morgan’s controversial comments about the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle during her revelatory interview with Oprah Winfrey.
