Wondering what you’ll watch when The Hunger Games franchise is over? We’ve got some ideas…
As well as sequels, remakes, and comic book adaptations, there’s one kind of movie you can feel fairly sure is going to keep popping up at a cinema near you: young adult adaptations. Stories about teenagers are still doing big business in the book trade, and thanks to Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games, Hollywood is convinced of the genre’s appeal, too.
A couple of new franchises have already been kicked off – there’s still at least another Divergent sequel on the way, and another Maze Runner sequel – but what’s more interesting is the list of Ya novels that have been optioned and may soon be taking over the box office. Now, not all of the adaptations on this list will see the light of day,...

Contrary to previous rumors, Star Wars will have a big presence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con with a few panels and exclusive toys based on The Force Awakens. Come inside to get your first look at all their plans!
Sdcc is always a crazy time, being nerd Mecca and all, but it's about to get more nuts, as Lucasfilm has announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be at the event with Jj Abrams and Kathleen Kenedy along for the ride. Needless to say, they're going to be bringing some goodies from the new movie, but what is up for speculation at this point. I've heard many guess that a theatrical trailer will be revealed during the panel...but who knows.
Honestly, all I've heard is that the next trailer would be at D23 in August, but then again, their presence at Sdcc is a surprise all around.

"Coraline" director Henry Selick is set to helm a live-action version of "A Tale Dark and Grimm," based on the book by Adam Gidwitz, where Hansel and Gretel escape their own ominous fairy tale only to be met with eight successive fairytales to navigate, all dark and fearsome. In the book, an irreverent narrator takes the reader through each of the siblings' travails. John W. Mann and Jon Gunn penned the adaptation, with contributions from Selick. Selick, who was Oscar nominated for "Coraline," told Variety in a statement that the project is "a hilarious, deeply inventive tale about survival in the world of fairytales and what it takes to forgive one’s parents." His other directing credits include "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "James and the Giant Peach." Last year, Disney took a $50 million write-off for Selick's then in-the-works stop motion feature, at one point titled "ShadeMaker," reportedly because it...

The brilliant Henry Selick is to take on A Tale Dark & Grimm...
Henry Selick is one of the planet's most underappreciated movie directors. Given that he's directed Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, the wonderful James And The Giant Peach and the flat-out brilliant Coraline, you'd think that news of a new project of his would be reason to bring out the marching band. But sadly, news that he's taking on Adam Gidwitz's A Tale Dark & Grimm appears to have been met with not too much noise. Thus, we intend to make some.
Selick actually has two films on the go at the moment now. The first is The Shadow King, a stop motion project that was in development at Disney, but has now been picked up by K5 International. Selick has written the script for this one too, a story of a...

Director Henry Selick is well known for directing the gorgeous stop-motion animated hits The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, but now he's heading into live-action feature film territory. THR has word that Selick will be at the helm of A Tale Dark & Grimm, based on Adam Gidwitz's children's novel of the same name. The book, which is the first in a series of three, follows two siblings as they run away from their own dark fairytale and hope to find happiness again. However, their escape inadvertently leads them into eight other terrible fairytales, all inspired by Grimm's classic stories. This just sounds perfect for Selick. Here's the official synopsis for the first book: Hansel and Gretel walk out of their own story and into eight other classic Grimm (and Grimm-inspired) fairy tales. An irreverent, witty narrator leads us through encounters with witches, warlocks, dragons, and the devil himself.

The stories from our childhoods we remember best, and often times most fondly, tend to be the ones that managed to leave a scar on our psyches. They were the ones we were probably too young to hear at the time, the ones that included some form of gruesomeness that probably shouldn’t have been included in a story for children at all. That’s why all of those disturbingly violent Brothers Grimm fairytales have been repeatedly retold down through the ages, and it’s why people are so fond of Henry Selick’s often dark, sometimes creepy stop-animated movies The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. There’s just something magical that happens when you mix fairy tale storytelling with the macabre. All of this is why the latest news regarding Selick’s career is super good news for people who like to make their kids cry. The Wrap has a report saying that the director has...

Later this month marks the 20th anniversary of Henry Selick's "The Nightmare Before Christmas," a delightful stop motion fable from the imagination of Tim Burton and Disney that would eventually become something of a cultural phenomenon, complete with a yearly holiday redo of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion attraction and untold millions of dollars in merchandise sales. In the years since though, Selick's career has been unusually spotty, culminating in the out-and-out disaster that was his deal with Disney and Pixar to create four original films, which ended before the first movie could be completed (the studio terminated his contract and lost $50 million on the project). Well, never count a good animator down. FilmNation has just hired the director to helm "A Tale Dark & Grimm," a live action adaptation of a children's book by Adam Gidwitz that reinterprets the original Grimm Brothers' fairy tales. What's interesting about this is that it isn't an animated feature.
