It’s been almost a decade since J. Cole rapped “Dick so big, it’s like a foot is in your mouth” on Jeremih’s “Planez.” Now, on Cash Cobain’s “Grippy,” he’s back with another horny feature for a new generation of fans (and, inevitably, haters).
It’s a playful release for Cole, who was, for a moment, caught in the middle of this spring’s tense rap war between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. A representative of Cash Cobain tells Rolling Stone that Cole recorded his verse towards the end of April,...

Vince Staples has released his new album, Dark Times, via Def Jam Recordings.
Dark Times contains 13 tracks and was recorded over seven months in North Hollywood. In an Instagram post, Staples revealed the album is his final release on Def Jam.
“Eleven years ago, a young, uncertain version of myself was given an opportunity with Def Jam Recordings,” he wrote. “I released my first project under their banner, Shyne Coldchain Vol 2, a year later. I was unsure of what to expect from the world of music but deeply aware of what I needed: a change in my surroundings and a clear understanding of self. Ten years and seven projects later, I’ve found that clarity.”
In a separate statement about the album cover, which features a faintly seen noose, Staples explained, “I’m Black, and that’s what we’re evading. We all have our things that could kill us.

Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums list today named its top 10 albums of all-time, with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill crowned No. 1.
“This is my award,” Hill said to Apple Music, “but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”
Last year was the album’s 25th anniversary, and its success was overwhelming upon release. It won five Grammys, three American Music Awards, and a Billboard, Soul Train and MTV Video Music Award while selling 30 million copies since its bow.
But instead of capitalizing on it, Hill became one of music’s biggest enigmas. Her output diminished after an MTV Unplugged follow-up acoustic album, reverting to sporadic singles and rare appearances.

When it comes to the music industry, there is always some drama going on. Be it subtle hints hidden in lyrics or outright diss tracks, those who follow the personal lives of their favorite musicians are bound to be entertained. While it is rare for an artist to actually speak ill of someone by name, it does happen every now and then.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

One of the biggest and most sensational developments in modern hip-hop came in the form of the recent Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud. The two rap giants have moved ahead in a tussle, with several diss tracks being fired from both sides. Additionally, it has also involved other rappers such as the likes of Ye, Metro Boomin, and The Weeknd, calling them to choose their team. Now, in an interesting development, the latest pair to get involved in this mix is the father-son duo of Tom Hanks and Chet Hanks.

The duo’s conversation made its way to social media and has several fans rolling in hysteria and amazement. A detailed explanation from the son to the acclaimed actor, who still appeared clueless, had the Internet in splits. Regardless, the summary still highlighted the intensity of the feud and its knocking on the Hanks’ doors.

Like many other folks approaching 70, Tom Hanks found himself out of the loop when the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake dominated headlines during the first week of May. So, he reached out to his son and hip-hop enthusiast, Chet Hanks, for an explanation and got a far longer response than he expected — so much so that he apparently didn’t bother reading the reply.
Chet posted the exchange in his Instagram Stories today (May 20th), which began with his father saying, “Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?”
In response, Chet broke down how Drake and J. Cole had long claimed they were among the “Big 3” of hip-hop alongside Kendrick Lamar, which prompted Kendrick to come after them on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
He continued by referring to Drake’s short jokes on “Push Ups” before moving on to the meat of the beef on “euphoria,...

OpenAI is pausing the use of a voice named Sky that is part of a new demo of ChatGPT 4.0’s Voice Mode. The emotive voice has been called out for sounding a little too similar to Scarlett Johansson’s A.I. character from the 2013 Spike Jonze film Her, and Johansson herself has now stated she is “shocked, angered and in disbelief” that the tech company would use “a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine” — especially after she declined their offer to hire her to be the voice.

As in recent finale episodes, Michael Che and Colin Jost wrote each other’s jokes during the Weekend Update segment in this year’s Season 49 finale. The idea is “to give each other fun jokes, almost supportive jokes, that would never ruin our summer or career,” Jost explained. Though, of course, the exercise devolved into the most giggly affair as the two comedians read provocative lines that would otherwise be deemed tasteless.

The recent assault on Steve Buscemi on the streets of New York City spawned a skit for SNL that featured Jake Gyllenhaal as an NYPD sergeant urging bad guys to “stop punching character actors in the face.”
Speaking at a press conference for reporters, Gyllenhaal called character actors “the life blood of the entertainment industry” and expressed concern about the assaults on these “national treasures.” He said the attack on Buscemi followed similar ones on Rick Moranis and the “shocking versatile Michael Stuhlbarg.”
He went on to define character actors as “actors who faces you can remember but names you cannot,” including anyone “who has ever been on the TV show Boardwalk Empire, you have a face that makes casting directors go ‘oh interesting,'” and “your IMDb page has over 100 entries, but all your characters just have a first name.”

We’re about due for a new live-action Scooby-Doo movie, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Sabrina Carpenter are happy to hop into the Mystery Machine.
On this week’s SNL, host Gyllenhaal and musical guest Carpenter co-starred in a Scooby-Doo video short as Fred and Daphne, with Mikey Day as Shaggy and Sarah Sherman as Velma, along with a CGI Scooby. The gang searched a spooky haunted house for “the Shadow Phantom,” capturing the villain after Scooby knocked a suit of armor onto him. In typical Scooby fashion, Fred tore off the Phantom’s mask to reveal (gasp!) Old Man Franklin.

Colin Jost and Michael Che continued their Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” tradition of swapping jokes and writing zingers for each other to say.
Che started by saying that the last time he tricked Jost into thinking he had invited a civil rights hero, “and that was low. So to make it up to you this time, I invited an actual, practicing rabbi.”
Jost started off by addressing the Jerry Seinfeld commencement speech at Duke where students were seen walking out.
“I think that’s disgraceful. During these difficult times it’s important to support our Jewish friends. That’s why the only chant you’ll hear from me is, ‘Free [Harvey] Weinstein!,'” Jost read.

It’s the end of the road for Saturday Night Live’s 49th season — and host Jake Gyllenhaal has the perfect way to say goodbye.
During his monologue that kicked off this week’s season finale, Gyllenhaal started out with some thinly veiled complaints that he’s stuck hosting the Season 49 finale and not the landmark Season 50 premiere. But he was still honored to host an SNL season finale, and he decided to commemorate it with a song, grabbing the mike to croon a version of the classic Boyz II Men torch song “End of the Road.

Jake Gyllenhaal took hosting duties for Saturday Night Live’s Season 49 finale ahead of the historic 50th season this fall.
The Road House actor joked in his monologue, “When you think of historic television seasons, the first number that pops into your head is 49.”
“I mean, sure, you know, one more episode and I would have been hosting the premiere of the 50th season, but who cares? Forty-nine is a great number. I mean, seven times seven, classic,” he said. “Forty-nine is like 69 but easier. Also, 49 is the number of times Conor McGregor accidentally punched me during Road House.”

Forget the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine. Bill Maher spent the first segment of Friday’s Real Time asking about a cultural battle – the feud between rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
To explain the war of words, Maher brought in Michael Eric Dyson, a professor at Vanderbilt University and author of the book Unequal: A Story of America.
Dyson blamed the feud on a personality clash. “Kendrick Lamar didn’t like the fact that Drake was who he was,” a resentment dating back years. It kept brewing until it “blew up in one particular song,” which was Like That, a 2024 collaboration by Future, Metro Boomin, and Lamar.
Dyson said verbal battles are not unusual in the Black community. He pointed out that Drake, a Canadian, has been accused of being a “culture vulture” who is not socially conscious. “So his Blackness was put into question,” Dyson said.

This week, the Number One song in America is a diss track. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” debuted at the top of the charts, to the surprise of no one who’s seen the track go viral since its release earlier this month. The song is buoyed by a catchy DJ Mustard beat and a slew of unforgettably delivered lyrics by Kendrick — even if the lines are vulgar barbs toward his rival Drake.
What does the record’s success mean? For one, it highlights how desensitized we are as a music-listening public.

Randy Travis’s AI voice-clone song “Where That Came From” has officially landed the singer on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It’s his first radio-charting song in about 20 years, according to the singer’s team.
“Where That Came From” marked Travis’s first new song since he suffered a near-fatal stroke back in 2013 that robbed him of most of his singing ability. His longtime producer Kyle Lehning used AI tech to overlay decade-old lyrics originally performed by country singer James Dupré with Travis’s vocal sound.

Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss, “Not Like Us,” has brought him back to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, debuting on the chart at No. 1.
The scathing track is one of four songs from the beef appearing in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 this week. His own “euphoria” rose to No. 3 from No. 11 in its second week on the chart, with the Future and Metro Boomin collaboration “Like That” coming in at No. 6. Meanwhile, Drake’s “Family Matters” debuts at No. 7.
“Not Like Us” marks Kendrick’s fourth No. 1 on the Hot 100 after his Taylor Swift collaboration “Bad Blood,” 2017’s “Humble.,” and the aforementioned “Like That.”
Produced by Mustard, “Not Like Us” served as a victory lap of sorts for Kendrick, coming one day after he hit back at “Family Matters” with the thermonuclear “Meet the Grahams.” Despite featuring club-ready production, the track features further allegations of Drake’s preference...

When USC professor and hip-hop scholar Todd Boyd remembers hearing Tupac Shakur’s scathing diss track “Hit ‘Em Up,” he knew one thing: “This is not going to end well.”
The West Coast anthem was released in June 1996 and Shakur viciously took aim at his East Coast rivals, including the Notorious B.I.G. with claims — through strikingly chosen words — that he slept with Biggie’s wife, R&b singer Faith Evans.
The rap war escalated to new heights, and three months later Shakur was shot to death in Las Vegas, with some wondering (though apparently incorrectly) whether the beef had anything to with it. And a few months after that, Biggie was shot dead in Los Angeles though his killer never apprehended.
Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s current rap beef has Boyd reflecting on the past.

Tee Grizzley and Future have teamed up to drop new track “Swear To God” on Friday.
The hard-hitting single opens with the lyrics: “Fuck your album, shit ain’t slapping like my mixtape.” When the rapper tweeted a coded announcement of the track on Thursday, he did so by tweeting the vicious opening line on X, which many speculated as a covert shot at Gunna, whose album One of Wun had already been announced as releasing today as well. Two of Gunna’s subsequent posts were assumed to be responses.

Not Like Us is making all the way up on Billboard as it continues to outpace its competition as the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar escalates. It is likely that Lamar’s diss track will make it to the top, the only problem remains: which one? Writers of the popular American entertainment magazine have the same question.
The diss track aimed at the Canadian rapper also shattered one of the records on Spotify. The song dethroned Girls Wants Girls, which had the most hip-hop song streams in a single day. As of now, the track holds over 28 million views on video sharing platform YouTube.

Kendrick Lamar stepped up as Kung Lao in the new mod.
The beef between the two rappers is well publicized at this point, but there’s seemingly always a new angle and a new reason behind another diss track.

Jeopardy! icon James Holzhauer is currently defending his Jeopardy! Masters title, but he took some time out earlier this week to weigh in on the Kendrick Lamar versus Drake beef. After an X user said, “Beefs don’t work in any other genre. Can you imagine 21 pilots and imagine dragons writing diss tracks about each other,” Holzhauer responded with a classic Jeopardy! clip that proved beefs can certainly happen on game shows. The clip was from the 2020 Greatest of All-Time tournament, which saw Holzhauer battling it out with fellow Jeopardy! legends Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The moment featured Holzhauer’s epic diss of Rutter, where he pointed out how Rutter’s score of “0” was still on the screen after the boards reset, and Ken Jennings raised his hands in shock at what Holzhauer had said, reacting with a “Wow!” It was a moment viewers will never forget. “Funniest line ever delivered on Jeopardy!

Bringing a couple whose chemistry clicks on the screen is not an easy task. A proper storyline, well-developed characters, an ideal location, and perfect timing are all necessary. Rachel and Joey’s relationship on Friends lacked all of these. Well, the NBC series always had wonderful backstories, and the couples we saw on the show—Ross and Rachel, Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and Mike, for example—all made sense. Still, it was impossible to swallow the pill of Rachel and Joey being together.
Throughout its ten seasons, Friends had a lot of romantic moments. But in terms of other couples, the back-and-forth dynamic between Joey and Rachel won out in terms of the ‘will-they or won’t-they relationship’. Having said that, while there were many memorable moments in Friends Season 5, one that sticks out as especially epic is the game of ‘this or that’.
