Yowie wowie: Goldberg has defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at “Super ShowDown” Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, becoming the new WWE Universal Champion in the process. Guess how well that creative decision went over with fans?
Yes, say goodbye to that unbeaten streak and the immortal aura assigned to Wyatt’s demonic alter-ego. The push was nice while it lasted.
Goldberg’s shocking win, which required roughly three minutes of in-ring work, took four spears and one (kinda-sorta) jackhammer to get the job done. Along the way, the “Longest Yard” actor fought out of a pair of mandible claws, which is one of The Fiend’s finishing maneuvers. Bill Goldberg didn’t eat a Sister Abigail, for what that’s worth.

The Undertaker is 54-years-old. Bill Goldberg is 52. So naturally, the two young wrestlers main-evented “WWE Super Showdown” in Saudi Arabia on Friday.
You can probably see where this is going. The Jeddah event’s final match was an absolute disaster filled with botched moves — some of which could have caused serious injury to the two legends.
But don’t take our word for how bad the highly touted first-time-ever bout was — the WWE Universe on Twitter is already calling Goldberg-Undertaker “the worst match of the year,” among other very un-superlative superlatives.

Nxt TakeOver London was thunderous from start to finish, with the local fans roaring with full-throat in appreciation for WWE’s unofficial third brand. Adam Pacitti and I were both in attendance and our vocal chords are now utterly shredded from chanting, singing, cheering and booing. From the arrival of the Vaudevillains (dressed as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who, which is amazing) to the closing dark match and promo with Sami Zayn, the night felt electric and I consider myself genuinely lucky to have witnessed it live.
Speaking of being thankful, Huge props to the crowd of WhatCulture fans who found us before the show to watch Adam Pacitti singing ‘Ass Man’ and ‘Sexy Boy’ in his forfeit concet. Your perfect 10 chants were appreciated, if utterly undeserved. Incredibly uplifting to see you guys there, and big thanks for coming up and saying hi.

2K Games
On Wednesday 14th, Adam Pacitti and I got a chance to get our hands on an advance copy of 2K’s latest in the long-running franchise of annual WWE games, WWE2K16. Overall, our reaction was positive.
The annual nature of these games generates a fair amount of gamer fatigue and indeed, on first glance, this could be considering just a re-skin of the same game from the last 4 years. That, coupled with last year’s disappointing offering – gutted creation suite, turgid MyCareer, the song ‘We Dem Boyz’ every ten minutes – and gamers could be forgiven for wanting to save their money, but that could be a mistake this year.
WWE2K16 has many points in its favour, and Adam P and I had a blast during the scant hours we had with the game. There’s a canny new reversal system that reduces the button mashing aspect,...

2K
With WWE 2K15 ranking between ‘disappointment’ and ‘abomination’ for the vast majority of critics and fans, 2K were under a huge amount of pressure to deliver with their next annual instalment of virtual grappling. Adam Pacitti (the much worse Adam from Whatculture.com) and I were invited to a play-testing event on October 14th and spent a few hours with the game to see if improvements had been made, or if videogame wrestling had sunken even further into its rut.
The results were positive. They’re doubling down with the the aim of creating ‘realistic match pacing’, but what felt sluggish last year feels fresher with this instalment. There are more transitional animations to keep momentum between moves, and more intuitive in-game mechanics for reversals and submissions, which sit alongside the returning stamina system to create a match with a compelling ebb and flow.
But that’s not all,...
