Death’s Game was one of 2023’s most highly anticipated K-dramas in the last quarter because of the sheer number of actors in it. In the first part, we meet a man named Yee-Jae (Seo In-Guk), whose life hasn’t gone as he planned, making him want to give up. Yee-Jae decides to commit suicide; however, he finds Death herself knocking at his door when he jumps off a building. Death tells Yee-Jae that she will punish him for looking for her before she came for him. He’s already set to go to hell, but now he gets 12 chances at life again, and he must try to avoid imminent death and live on in those bodies as long as he can while abiding by some rules. In the first part Death’s Game Season 1, Yee-Jae has already lost seven chances to live. What will he do next, and how will he...

Following the story of a wealthy man in 1945, Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature is a period drama that combines history with horror and brings about an intriguing show that poses questions about humanity and the perils of survival in a monster-infested world. South Korea has been well known for making some incredible thrillers over the years, and Gyeongseong Creature does not disappoint on that front either. Although it’s a plot that is rather predictable, there are a lot of thrills to keep one occupied. The show is also set in Japan-occupied Korea, a dark time for the country, and does a decent job of representing the time period. Whether you’re looking for something historical or monstrous, this list will serve you well.
Sweet Home
The most obvious choice when it comes to a double feature with Gyeongseong Creature would be Sweet Home, the TV show about a virus that turns humans into monsters.

The Prime Original series Death’s Game is the latest in Korea’s long list of thriller shows to grace our screens this year. The show starring, Seo In-Guk and Park So-Dam in leading roles, has garnered tremendous attention because of its ensemble cast of the most popular actors today. The eight-episode series has been split into two parts, one released on December 15, 2023, and the second to be released on January 5, 2024 (something to look forward to in the new year!). “The most tormenting death for a mortal is one that is anticipated.” A morbid statement to begin a series that is about a man who tries to end his life.

Death’s Game: Seo In-guk Had A “Panic Attack” While Shooting A Mid-Air Scene (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Death’s Game’s star-studded cast has everyone wondering how much the producers splurged to bring the biggest stars of Hallyuwood. The thought-provoking suspense thriller has captured audiences’ attention far and wide since it debuted in its first four episodes on Friday (December 15). With a promising narrative that has kept the audience on the edge of their seats, the K-drama has emerged as a weekend binge for K-fanatics. Ironically, it’s not only the audience whose hearts skipped a beat with bone-chilling action; lead actor Seo In-guk was also taken aback by some of the scenes. The actor has now revealed one particular scene due to which he suffered a panic attack.
The ensemble cast of the Ha Byung-hoon-directed show follows Choi Yi-jae, portrayed by Seo In-guk, whose kindness and brilliance make him stand out amongst the lot.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to proclaim that South Korea consistently delivers some of the most riveting thriller entertainment. Long before the (K)wave of interest in soppy K-dramas and overproduced K-pop, it was thriller Korean cinema that was gripping audiences all around the world, exemplified by masterpieces like Oldboy and I Saw The Devil. This is probably why said genre keeps delivering hard-hitting shows every month. This year alone, we’ve had a dozen in this category, with Sweet Home 2 being the latest in the mix. So, when I heard of Death’s Game, I was certainly excited to see what the industry was going to cook up for us. The South Korean industry, known for its prowess in adapting webtoons and consistently delivering compelling content, had something promising in store. Oftentimes, though, the buzz surrounding a show intensifies when it hails from said industry. When we got to...

Alchemy of Souls is still one of the most talked about K-dramas since its premiere. Developed by the Hong Sisters, the storyline, visual effects, and main cast brought a mystical world of fantasy and magic to life. There is no denying that Alchemy of Souls’ great success was largely due to Lee Jae-wook in the leading role of Jang Uk. But the highly credited actor found difficulty taking on the role for two seasons.

Project Wolf Hunting begins with a mass return of Korean criminals captured in the Philippines. As they’re being led through Seoul airport somebody with a grudge against one of them detonates a suicide bomb killing himself, his target, and everyone else in the vicinity. To avoid a repeat of this, the next group is to be transported on the Frontier Titan, a specially fitted out cargo ship and delivered to a pier in Busan harbour to which the public doesn’t have access. I guess simply flying them into a military base never crossed anyone’s mind.
The Frontier Titan leaves Manilla with forty-seven criminals, twenty guards, two medics, and the ship’s crew. At least that’s what they think they’re leaving with because...

Plot: Criminals from South Korea take control of the cargo ship that’s taking them back home from the Philippines… and then the genetic experiment that’s also on board gets loose. A bloodbath ensues.
Review: Writer/director Kim Hong-seon’s movie Project Wolf Hunting doesn’t have a great title – and the filmmakers were clearly aware of that, because when a character in the movie sees a folder with “Project Wolf Hunting” on it, their response is, “How tacky.” Apparently the literal translation of the South Korean production’s title in its home country would be Project Wolf Hunt or simply Wolf Hunt, both of which at least sound better than the English title the movie was given. That “ing” at the end does make a difference. But as cheesy as Project Wolf Hunting sounds, it’s a title we’re probably going to hear referenced quite often going forward,...

Korea’s most wanted escape their handcuffs on a cargo ship back to the motherland but find they are not alone in bloody thriller
If you had a pound for every slashed jugular and staved-in cranium in this Korean horror-thriller, you would probably have more than the film’s entire budget. This seems to have been mostly spent on supplies of fake blood almost copious enough to run the sprinkler system on Frontier Titan, the 58,000-tonne cargo ship travelling between the Philippines and South Korea in Kim Hong-sun’s film.
Forget Con Air; this is Con Sea, with bruiser cop Seok-woo (Park Ho-san) in charge of escorting a dirty dozen or so fugitives back to the motherland. First among evils is Jong-doo (Seo In-guk), a rapist with boyband looks and tattoos up to his jawline, who earns an early beating from Seok-woo after threatening his daughter. It doesn’t take...

Kim Hong-Sun’s movies are always intensely thrilling and, more often than not, they are also quite violent. The 2017 title “The Age of Blood” was Hong-Sun’s debut feature-length film. Operating as a nonstop action adventure and period piece, “The Age of Blood” told the story of a swordsman who quickly finds himself immersed in an attempted prison break, and must do everything in his capacity to keep the escaping convicts at bay. In “Project Wolf Hunting,” Hong-Sun returns to the escaped convict motif. This time around, though, things get a little bit… weirder. “Project Wolf Hunting” is a rampant action-horror mashup; although not for the faint of heart, the movie is wildly entertaining and contains enough twists and turns to keep audiences on their seats all-throughout.

Gorehounds, look no further than "Project Wolf Hunting," Kim Hong-sun's ridiculously violent South Korean sci-fi-action-horror pic that plays like a mash-up of "Con Air" and a slasher pic, with a little "Frankenstein" thrown in for good measure. While the film overstays its welcome, a character who revels in being drenched in blood.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agents on board the ship, like tough guy Dae-woong (Sung Dong-il) and female cop Da-yeon (Jung So-mi) have to fight for their lives as the criminals start slaughtering both guards and the ship's crew. But not all of them are cold-blooded killers — there's the mysterious Do-il (Jang Dong-yoon), who goes along with the escape — up until a point when he decides enough is enough.
Lots And Lots And Lots Of Blood
The first hour of "Project Wolf Hunting" is a non-stop bloodfest ... and so is the second hour. There's almost no respite here, and it starts to get exhausting.

“Project Wolf Hunting” stars Seo In-guk, Jang Dong-yoon, Jeong So-min and Sung Dong-il. The film will debut Sept. 21 in South Korea before playing in TIFF’s Midnight Madness program, the first Korean pic to do so after Bong Joon-ho’s “The Host.”

Written and directed by Kim Hongsun (The Chase), the movie follows a group of dangerous criminals being transported by sea from the Philippines to South Korea. After a coordinated jailbreak attempt escalates into a bloody, all-out riot against the special agents charged with the transport, the fugitives and their allies from the outside unite to exact a brutal terror campaign onboard.
The cast is led by Seo In-guk, Jang Dong-yoon, Jeong So-min and Sung Dong-il. This is one of a handful of TIFF...

It's about to fall off, it's dangerous
I'm sorry, tears come out, yeah
The darkness comes down and disappears
Into the frozen time
They'll disappear without a trace
I can't stop, why my last favor
I'm breaking down
Only darkness shines
I'm breaking down living in the memories
Inside my memory, yeah
