The entire story of Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil revolves around a running joke; it’s a secret that binds every character in the movie, especially the two leads – Anandan (Prithviraj Sukumaran) and Vinu (Basil Joseph). Apparently, it’s the same gag that feels like the only weak link in the script. But despite this hiccup, this insanely entertaining wannabe comic camp makes a passable comedy, thanks to Basil Joseph and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Directed by Vipin Das, whose 2022 smash hit, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, elevated comedy set pieces to a new level, Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil talks about a feud. At the heart of this story are two soon-to-be brothers-in-law, Anandan, and Vinu.
Vinu has everything a middle-class eligible bachelor Malayali requires – he works as a corporate executive in the Middle East, his family is well-off, and he is the perfect man next door. Now, the only thing he lacks in his late 20s...

The John Wick Universe grows ever wider. Following the release of explosive quadrilogy closer John Wick: Chapter 4, last September fans were invited to check in to The Continental on Prime Video. And, in just a few short weeks, we’ll be seeing Ana de Armas bring a whole new meaning to bullet ballet in spin-off movie Ballerina. But Lionsgate aren’t done there. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Donnie Yen is set to reprise his role as blind assassin Caine in an upcoming standalone spin-off all of his own.
When last we saw Caine, the assassin — fresh from his (seemingly fatal) duel with Keanu Reeves' Wick — was being approached by a blade-wielding Akira (Rina Sawayama) on the streets of Paris. Presumably he makes it out alive though, as the studio has revealed this film “will continue Yen’s story arc following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, as Caine has...

The John Wick franchise became a cultural phenomenon after the release of the first film in 2014. With its intricate characters, interconnected plotlines, and elaborate action sequences, the John Wick franchise has become one of the most popular action movie series of all time. There’s hardly a fan of action out there that doesn’t know the name of Keannu Revees’ famous assassin. The franchise is getting bigger as the years go by, and while the main series seems to be over, spin-off movies are planned, and we have just received information that a solo spin-off focusing on Donnie Yen’s character Caine is in the works and will start filming relatively soon!
In case you don’t remember, Yen’s character Caine is a blind assassin who was introduced to the fans in Chapter 4 of the series and was described as an old ally of John’s in the movie.

Well, it seems the possibility is high since the acclaimed action franchise is expanding again with Donnie Yen’s enigmatic character, Caine, the blind master of lethality. For the unversed, he was introduced to us in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

Donnie Yen isn’t done with his role as the blind assassin Caine from John Wick: Chapter 4 quite yet.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran Hong Kong action star will return in a spinoff picking up with his character being freed of his obligations to the High Table after the final events of John Wick 4.
“Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil, and Erica push themselves to create action, fights, and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive, and artistic, but also expressive of character, story, and emotion,” Yen said in a statement. “Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”

Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen’s Caine assassin character.
Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.
The project also follows Yen, a veteran Hong Kong action hero, pushing back against what he claimed were Asian stereotypes in the original script for John Wick 4. After some prodding, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski agreed to change the name and clothes for Yen’s character.
China-born Yen is a household name internationally thanks to his hugely popular and acclaimed Ip Man movie series, and he has crossed over to Hollywood with outings in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which grossed over a billion dollars,...

Filmmaker Stefon Bristol’s 2019 debut See You Yesterday (Netflix) demonstrated the filmmaker’s deft ability to blend tones and legibly render a complex time-travel story injected with social consciousness and the Black experience. Bristol and co-screenwriter Felicia Bailey deservedly took home the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay in 2020. Now with his sophomore feature Breathe (distributed by Warner Brothers), the NY-based Spike Lee protege continues his ambitious project of telling Black-cenetered sci-fi stories on an indie film budget.
Beginning with a Black List-approved original screenplay by Doug Simon, Bristol was encouraged by producers to put his own stamp on the material, resulting in the change of setting from post-apocalyptic upstate New York to post-apocalyptic Flatbush. Bristol’s updated vision also attracted the film’s stellar cast, which includes Jennifer Hudson, Milla Jovovich, Qvenzhané Wallis, Sam Worthington, Common and more.

Lionsgate will handle U.S. distribution of eagerly awaited “Greenland” sequel “Greenland: Migration,” Variety can confirm.
STX, which has a distribution partnership with Lionsgate, is handling international distribution.
Directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a screenplay by Chris Sparling and Mitchell Lafortune, “Greenland: Migration” sees Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin return as John and Allison Garrity. Along with their diabetic son Nathan, the couple were forced to flee in the first film as a comet hurtled towards earth, threatening to destroy the planet. The first preview for the West End adaptation of “Fawlty Towers — The Play,” based on the legendary British comedy series created by and starring John Cleese and Connie Booth, hits the boards later this week. The show is an amalgamation of three of the 12 episodes of the zany resort-set series, one of which is the most famous: “The Germans.”
Most remember that episode for the catchphrase “don’t mention the war,” the talking moose, and Cleese goosestepping around his humble Torquay hotel lobby. But it also included its share of envelope-pushing material. Indeed, the character The Major – an old senile drunk played by Ballard Berkeley – tells a rambling story about his time in India in which someone got their racial slurs confused. The scene includes the use of the N-word, as well as a derogatory term for Indians.
In 2020, UKTV removed it, but later reinstated it after Cleese called the move “stupid.

Original Boondock Saints stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will both return for a third installment of the franchise, as Deadline reports, reprising their roles as Murphy and Connor MacManus respectively. Despite the consistent casting decisions, however, Troy Duffy, who directed both the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondocks Saints: All Saints Day, will not return to helm the project.
The announcement both affirms and amends a similar report from 2021. That report revealed Reedus and Flanery’s involvement, though Duffy was still set to direct at the time.
Though little has been revealed about the new film’s plot or production timeline, John Wick production house Thunder Road has officially joined current rights holder Dragonfly Films to help bring the sequel to life.

By the luck of the Irish, a new film in The Boondock Saints series is getting locked and loaded! Deadline says the project is reimagining the brotherly action setup, with Thunder Road, the producer behind John Wick, turning the duo loose on audiences. Thunder Road will partner with Dragonfly Films for the project, with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles from the original films.
Deadline‘s report says Troy Duffy, who helmed the first two films in the series (The Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day), will not direct the new movie. In the wake of 1999 cult favorite The Boondock Saints and 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, a third movie is on the way soon, Deadline reports today.
Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are both set to return in a brand new Boondock Saints movie from Thunder Road and Dragonfly Films, the report indicates.
The new movie is said to be “a reimagining of the action film franchise.” The report this morning continues, “The story will involve the indoctrination of new Saints.”
Troy Duffy, who directed both the 1999 original movie and its 2009 sequel, will not be returning to direct the third installment. However, Deadline notes in their report that “Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.”

Exclusive: The rebirth of the 1999 cult favorite film The Boondock Saints is upon us. Thunder Road, the producer behind the John Wick films, has stepped in and joined rights-holder Dragonfly Films to make what they are calling a universe expansion of the action film franchise about the fraternal twin Irish brothers who raise holy hell to rid their Boston hometown of all criminals.
In the current configuration, Troy Duffy will step aside as director after creating and helming the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. Both films starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as the MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly playing their father.
Reedus and Flanery will reprise their roles, and the search is on for a new director. Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.

Harrison Ford should not be an easy man to scare.
The star best known for his derring do as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Jack Ryan, President James Marshall, and Sgt. Joe Gavilan has perhaps, throughout the course of his life, believed himself to be as invincible as those larger-than-life heroes he's portrayed. Aside from the myriad times he's injured himself performing his own stunts, the man has crashed a plane into a ditch and another one onto the green of a golf course. He's also had a plane blown off a runway, taxied across a runway in front of a landing plane, and put his aircraft down on a taxiway.
He also once saved a boy scout from certain death in the Wyoming wilderness, but that was while piloting his helicopter. He has yet to crash one of those.
In any event, Ford has cheated the Reaper so frequently and...

If Sarah Snook felt at all concerned about how to follow her career-defining, award-winning turn as Shiv Roy on Succession, a fear of ever reaching such heights again, of even coming close to filling that professional hole, then she must now feel rather blessed — if also, every night, unbelievably exhausted.
Snook returns to the London stage for the first time since 2016, when, pre-Shiv, the relatively unknown Australian actress shone opposite Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder. Now, she carries the massive weight of Kip Williams’ bravura adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s only novel. Snook plays not just the eternally young but damnably debauched Dorian Gray, but every one of the 26 parts in two unbroken hours of ceaselessly kinetic, highly choreographed, tech-heavy action. And she’s phenomenal.

John Cleese has adapted three episodes of Fawlty Towers into a play, which will premiere in the West End in May.
Fawlty Towers is often, quite rightly, cited as one of the best sitcoms ever made. Starring John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Andrew Sachs and Connie Booth, it was written by Cleese and Booth who, according to the DVD commentaries, took six weeks to plot and write each episode.
The show was based on a real hotel the Monty Python team stayed at, with Basil Fawlty based on its proprietor Donald Sinclair, after whom Cleese later named his character in Rat Race.
According to the British Comedy Guide, Cleese has adapted three episodes for the stage as a play which will premiere at the Apollo Theatre in the West End in June. Caroline Jay Ranger will direct.

New Delhi, Oct 22 (Ians) Actor-director Basil Joseph’s upcoming Malayalam family-drama-comedy film ‘Falimy’ has unveiled its latest track ‘Manjeera Shinjitham’.
A peppy, festive, melodic, energetic number, the song, is just an all out automatic foot-tapper.
‘Manjeera Shinjitham’, composed by Vishnu Vijay, is a rather experimental track, infusing elements of electronic, pop, classical, folk, film music, and some touches of rock to create an extremely unique and flavourful song which makes you just want to bob your head and sing along, even if you don’t know the language.
From the music video, it can be seen that Basil’s character is trying to get his romance working and is a love lost bird. He is constantly on the phone and is trying to get together with his girl, essayed by actress Raina Radhakrishan.
Then Basil has his own family duties, attending various functions and many other problems, one of which...

The Malayalam family period drama film ‘Falimy’ by director Nithish Sahadev has unveiled its first glimpse. A teaser of the light-hearted film presents glimpses of a family embarking on a thrilling adventure with actor Basil Joseph taking up the reins.
Much of the first glimpse shows a very comedic moment between the family members where Sandeep Pradeep is telling Basil Joseph that the solution to his problem in terms of living, is to live together.
The clip then showcases the other characters which include the actresses Meenaraj, Manju Pillai, and actor Jagdish. The role of Jagdish seems to be one of more serious capacity as he is seen standing outside a train station, yelling at the others.
Sandeep who is the comic master in the film gives a very clever nod to Thalapathy Vijay, talking about his slow-motion walking, something which the ‘Leo’ actor is known to do.

Watch any classic movies, and there’s a good chance you’ll see someone who got famous down the line. A future pop star appeared as a dancer in Elvis Presley’s Viva Las Vegas. That was far from the end of her career on the big screen.
‘Mickey’ singer Toni Basil danced to a Ray Charles song in Elvis Presley’s ‘Viva Las Vegas’
Toni Basil is a dancer and choreographer who’s most known for her No. 1 single “Mickey.” In a 2014 Facebook post, she discussed her experiences on the set of Viva Las Vegas. “Over the months of rehearsing with Anne-Margret and Elvis Presley, [choreographer] David Winters and I became close friends with them,” she recalled.
“David the choreographer and I worked on many musical numbers for this film,” Basil added. “Here’s ‘What’d I Say’ where I got to be the girl with the red dress on.

"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" may have been a box office disappointment, but it wasn't for lack of trying to capture the spirit of a classic Indy outing. The movie focuses on the titular archeologist as he approaches retirement and embarks on one last adventure, making for a reflective film that was ultimately a safer, less exciting Indiana Jones entry — even while it tried to emulate much of what made the earlier movies so enchanting.
For starters, before we see a single shot of old Indy, director James Mangold made sure to kick things off with a chase scene set in 1944 that depicts a 37-year-old Indiana Jones doing battle with the franchise's go-to villains: Nazis. In the trailer, the de-aging shots used in this sequence looked particularly good. In the final film, however, the tech wasn't as consistently convincing as we'd all hoped, despite Harrison Ford's assurances...

We all absorb lessons from our environment, and if you grew up in the 1980s or 1990s, that environment was more likely than not, television. Forget parents – for good or for bad – TV is what raised you into the person you are today.
It wasn’t only the shows that were aiming to teach that imparted their wisdom. Schools programming and nature documentaries played their part by explaining Oxbow lakes and why, if you’re an antelope, it’s a really good idea to not fall behind the pack come lion-o-clock, but the real lessons came from elsewhere. From sitcoms and kids’ cartoons and dramas that made us inwardly say ‘huh, new fact’.
Here, we give thanks to the invaluable education provided to us by TV.

Nishad Ebrahim’s directorial debut, Amala, falls into the crime and psychological thriller genres but unfortunately ends up doing justice to neither of them. Amidst a series of killings of young women, a young police officer is entrusted with finding the dangerous killer behind them. It turns out that just before these murders came to light, a notorious criminal finally managed to jump jail after a string of trials in the past. Despite having a decent star cast, the movie fails to hold attention or be as remotely thrilling as it promises to be. The narrative falters on many fronts, with a weak plot and screenplay, bland dialogue, poor direction, haphazard dubbing, and disappointing and uninspired performances by several actors. What is its saving grace, if there’s any at all?

Basil Joseph, the director of the recently released superhero film Minnal Murali, has opened up about his filmmaking journey in an exclusive interview with Club FM 94.3. The young filmmaker, who made his debut with the comedy film Kunjiramayanam, has also directed the sports drama Godha and acted in several films like Joji, Jan.E.Man and Thanneermathan Dinangal.
Club FM Interview ( Malayalam)
In the interview, Basil was asked which was the hardest shot he ever shot as a director. To everyone’s surprise, he chose the opening shot of Godha, where there were around 500 people and it was like a Freeze Frame shot, where around 500 people couldn’t move and the cameraman started the camera with the crane and then he unhooks and then he walks by leg and after that he moves and uses the jib and then again legs.
He said it was one of the hardest shots he ever shot.

There’s never a bad time to put on an “Indiana Jones” movie, but the release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” makes it a particularly good time to binge every installment of the American action-adventure franchise that has come before. And we’ve got all the franchise streaming details.
It all began over 40 years ago, in 1981, when “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” first hit theaters. Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, the 1930s-set action-adventure starred a hunky, mumbling Harrison Ford as an archaeology professor named Indiana Jones who spends his weekends traveling the world in search of historical artifacts. When Indy is approached to find the fabled Ark of the Covenant before Nazi German forces can, he teams up with former flame Marion (Karen Allen) to keep the powerful treasure out of enemy hands.

In June's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," the titular Indiana (Harrison Ford) once again faces down a Nazi threat. The film's first scenes are set in 1944 when the Nazis are trying to make their escape as the Allies liberate Europe. Indiana and his friend Basil Shaw (played by Toby Jones) try to steal back the Lance of Longinus from the Nazis. But it turns out the Nazis have something much more interesting: Archimedes's Dial, aka the Antikythera. Indiana and Bas make off with it.
Later in the movie, Bas's daughter - and Indiana's goddaughter - Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) contacts Indiana for more info on the dial. The quest for the dial, she says, at least partially drove her dad mad, and viewers learn that Bas has died. The dial ends up sending Indiana and Helena on a globe-trotting adventure with tons of twists and turns.

Goodbyes don’t tend to mean much in the Hollywood franchise system. Death isn’t a reliable end for characters or, lately, even actors. Technology, nostalgia and the often-inflated value of brands and IP have created a nightmarish cycle of resurrection and regurgitation, curdling what we love most.
And yet when someone like Harrison Ford says he’s hanging up Indiana Jones’ fedora, for better or worse, you believe him. “Indiana Jones” producer Frank Marshall has also said that they won’t recast the character, which seems more dubious and, though well-intentioned, something he won’t be able to guarantee. All it takes is a new executive demanding a reboot.
Not that it would ever really work, though. Any self-respecting movie fan knows the truth: The magic of Indiana Jones belongs wholly to Harrison Ford. Apparently, he doesn’t even necessarily need Steven Spielberg behind the camera, though, to be fair,...

Amidst a sea of contrived sequels, prequels, reboots, and whathaveyous, there’s still something magical and nostalgia-inducing about seeing Harrison Ford adorn the screen once more, in the familiar, treasured role of Indiana Jones. Though the actor is having one last crack of the whip as the famed, hardboiled, stubbly-faced archaeologist, this is the first outing in the franchise without a certain Steven Spielberg at the helm, with the task of entertaining the masses falling instead onto the trustworthy shoulders of James Mangold. Which makes sense, for Spielberg has reached a somewhat introspective stage of his life. He’s busy looking back across his past – but not stepping into it.
We meet Indy, initially, back in the 1940s, at the tail end of the Second World War, where the Nazis have captured our eponymous protagonist alongside Professor Basil Shaw (Toby Jones) – a name so English it wouldn’t feel out...

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean that you should. Case in point: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Harrison Ford was game to reprise his role as the Nazi-hating, snake-loathing archaeologist, and there seemed to be, if not demand, at least an interest in another Indy adventure. Unfortunately, the lack of a compelling story or memorable action scenes results in a missed opportunity and a rather lackluster conclusion to the blockbuster franchise.
Dial of Destiny time travels back to the 1940s to explain the film’s title and set up the retrieval of the archaeologically important centerpiece. The flashback gives us a Harrison Ford at about the age he was in Raiders of the Lost Ark, courtesy of some groundbreaking VFX technology.

Taskmaster was originally a hard sell. Channel execs worried that audiences would be bored by the cast not changing every episode. “People didn’t think viewers would tune in the next week to see the same comedians,” creator Alex Horne told Chortle, “we had to persuade them it was more like a sitcom than a panel show. Because actually, people got to know each contestant.”
Casting Taskmaster – in which five comedians compete in absurd challenges, wrangled by Alex Horne for the approval of Greg Davies – like a sitcom was one of the show’s many masterstrokes. If task-setting is all about encouraging a range of approaches (it’d be dull if everybody beautifully destroyed a cake in the same way) then the same goes for the series cast. Different personalities, from cool customers to chaos merchants, batty enthusiasts, neurotic overachievers, and ‘let’s fuck it all off’ rebels are required to clash and bond.

There was genuine curiosity for many of us when James Mangold was confirmed as director on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth and final entry in the beloved franchise that started with a bang in 1981 when Steven Spielberg and George Lucas reimagined the Saturday matinee adventure serials they grew up with for a new generation that couldn’t get enough. Mangold, after all, was the man who not only resuscitated the weary Wolverine but gave the character a genuinely poignant sendoff that was thoughtful, textured, even profound in 2017’s Logan.
Maybe the Indiana Jones films, with their appealing combination of laughs and close-shave thrills built around a rugged, quick-thinking archeologist in a fedora and leather jacket, were never going to be a great fit for that kind of gritty treatment. But it seemed fair to hope for at least some kind of fresh take beyond the rinse-and-repeat...

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is a dutifully eager but ultimately rather joyless piece of nostalgic hokum. It’s the fifth installment of the “Indiana Jones” franchise, and though it has its quota of “relentless” action, it rarely tries to match (let alone top) the ingeniously staged kinetic bravura of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” How could it? “Raiders,” whatever one thinks of it as a movie (I always found it a trace impersonal in its ’40s-action-serial-on-steroids excitement), is arguably the most influential blockbuster of the last 45 years, even more so than “Star Wars.”
Back in 1977, George Lucas took us through the looking glass of what would become our all-fantasy-all-the-time movie culture. But it was Steven Spielberg, teaming up with Lucas in “Raiders,” who introduced the structural DNA of the one-thing-after-another, action-movie-as-endless-set-piece escapist machine. This means that “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” isn’t just coming...
