Almost two weeks after Deadline broke the news of West Virginia Wilder, a Buckwild follow-up docu reality series filming in Morgantown and Charleston, Wv for a projected summer launch, the show became a target of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin. Today, he accused the series of playing “into vicious stereotypes,” prompting a swift response from the West Virginia Wilder producers who accused Manchin of “just looking for attention.”
Caught in the middle of the controversy was MTV, which has not been involved in the independently-produced series. West Virginia Wilder had been shopped to various networks and has found a home, according to executive producer Jp Williams.
The series, from executive producers behind MTV’s reality hit Buckwild, is described as a comedic follow-doc about a group of hard-working and fearless teens and twenty-somethings. After watching that trailer for the series, released at the time of the announcement, (you can watch...

The executive producers behind MTV’s hit reality show Buckwild are back in Appalachia for a follow-up series, West Virginia Wilder. Buckwild was a breakout, becoming the highest-rated Thursday cable show in the key 12-34 demo in its freshman season in 2013. The reality series was renewed for a second season, which was in production when the 21-year-old star Shain Gandee died unexpectedly, leading to the series’ end. Among the cast members of West Virginia Wilder is Spencer “Tar” Tarley, a relative of the late Gandee.

Networks typically cancel reality shows for two reasons: low ratings and controversy. Or both. So it’s no surprise that NBC would fire Donald Trump from “Celebrity Apprentice” and cut all ties with him after the business mogul made derogatory remarks about Mexican immigrants when announcing his 2016 run for president. “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists,” the billionaire said in mid-June adding, “some, I assume, are good people.” Trump is not the first reality star to lose his show due to controversial words or deeds. If he’d asked Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, CeeLo Green or even Jon and Kate Gosselin how they lost their shows, they would’ve peppered him with cautionary advice. Don’t make hateful comments in public or private: The Donald could’ve benefitted from this advice from twins David and Jason Benham. Hgtv canceled the pilot for their show...

Today MTV announced a bunch of new series and renewed some old favorites, including The Real World, which will be back for an impressive 30th season. Amongst the new offerings is a show from the producers of Buckwild called Slednecks, which follows the lives of a group of "outdoor tough" friends living in Alaska's "modern-day Wild, Wild West." While producer J.P. Williams publicly blasted MTV for cancelling Buckwild after participant Shain Gandee's death last year, it's appears they've buried the hatchet in the name of a higher good. Specifically, bringing viewers more raucous, state-specific reality TV.

MTV's "Jersey Shore in Appalachia" reality series "Buckwild" had a very brief and very unhappy lifecycle. It launched amid censure from critics and lawmakers, over its largely cheap depiction of kids from rural West Virginia communities. It concluded ignominiously, with one cast member arrested on drug charges, and another dead of carbon monoxide poisoning, the results of a tragic accident unrelated to the filming of the show. One week after that cast member, Shain Gandee, died, MTV opted to cancel "Buckwild."
Since this crass experiment in rural poverty voyeurism ran badly off the rails, one would imagine there wouldn't be a rush to recreate it. Well, one might be wrong. A memo obtained by The Huffington Post -- authored by Katie Zwick of the Creative Artists Agency, delineating "network needs" to their client production companies -- indicates there is still a strong interest in a "Buckwild" redux. The first season of MTV's "Buckwild" TV show had ratings that were good enough to move forward with a second season. But when cast members started getting arrested and Shain Gandee ended up dying, the network decided to abandon the show. That angered producer Jp Williams, who promised that he'll take "Buckwild" to another network and even has plans for a movie based on the reality series. But MTV wants the show gone permanently and is not allowing for its continuation on another network. Instead, MTV will hold on to the property to make sure that Williams or anyone else wouldn't be able to do anything with it. Williams responded to that decision, stating: "MTV is the most hypocritical network out there. [They] keep promoting premarital sex and promoting leaving the baby after you have it. I'm so glad they have found their moral bar."...

When MTV cancelled their latest hit reality series "Buckwild" in the wake of one cast member's death, an enraged producer said it wouldn't be the end ... but it has now.
At the time of "Buckwild's" cancellation earlier this month, the show's producer J.P. Williams -- and manager of eight "Buckwild" cast members, including the late Shain Gandee -- told The Hollywood Reporter, "There was no explanation ... My job is to protect these kids ... This will get ugly." He added that he would continue shooting "Buckwild" and would try to extricate the show from MTV so he could shop it around elsewhere.
But on Friday, Williams told THR that though there was interest from other cable networks, executives Van Toffler and Susanne Daniels at MTV, who controls the rights to the show, refused to let "Buckwild" go.

Reality darling Buckwild has not only been canceled but, as of Friday, MTV is refusing to let the show go on anywhere else. Though the show billed as West Virginia's answer to Jersey Shore has been surrounded by controversy from its premiere, bad press came to a head when goofball star Shain Gandee — along with his uncle and a friend — were found dead in Gandee's car earlier this month following a "mudding" trip in their home state. According to The Hollywood Reporter, enraged producer J.P. Williams, who had hoped to shop his series elsewhere, had this to say about the cable station and its executives: "MTV is the most hypocritical network out there. It's the end of the line for MTV's Buckwild. The hit reality series, which was canceled last week in the wake of star Shain Gandee's death, will not be shopped to other networks, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. In the wake of Shain’s tragic death, MTV producers decided to pull the plug on ‘Buckwild’ — find out the reason behind the cancellation!
On April 1, Buckwild star Shain Gandee was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his Ford Bronco in a ravine near his West Virginia home. When Shain’s sudden death happened, MTV producers were already in the process of shooting the second season of the reality series. On April 10, the network announced that they “will not be moving forward” with production of Buckwild.
The Real Reason ‘Buckwild’ Was Cancelled
Although it’s clear the cancellation was because of Shain’s death, an insider gives Us Weekly a little more insight on the situation.
“It would have taken a morbid turn,” the source explains. “People loved Shain. He was the show’s star.”
Although the producers felt it was best to cancel the show, the cast disagreed.

The latest "celeb" sex tape is a pair of "Buckwild" stars, according to TMZ. Reportedly, Southern belle and nursing student Shae Bradley and her on-again, off-again boyfriend Jesse J. filmed themselves engaging in what sources say is "trailer park sex."
Apparently that means nothing fancy -- Shae doesn't even take her shirt off.
Producers allegedly knew about said tape before production began, but told Shae and Jessie not to mention it. But now that the show has been canceled in the wake of Shain Gandee's untimely demise, the tape is being shopped around.
Shae tells TMZ, "Yes, there is a sex tape and I regret making it with someone who I obviously couldn't trust and is looking to exploit the relationship we had."
There is no confirmation as to who exactly is behind the selling of said sex tape. Perhaps they should look to release it in a double-pack with Farrah Abraham's sex tape.
Apparently that means nothing fancy -- Shae doesn't even take her shirt off.

Has "Teen Mom 2" been canceled? The jury's still out, but cast member Kailyn Lowry certainly seems to think she won't be headed back to MTV again.
On Wednesday, Kailyn sent out a telling tweet in response to "Buckwild" cast member Shae Bradley's tweet about her frustration that MTV canceled the show in the wake of Shain Gandee's death.
I'm sad that Buckwild was cancelled but no reason to slam other shows on the Network. It's not our fault.

Morgantown, W.Va. — MTV said Wednesday it is canceling its West Virginia-based reality TV show "Buckwild" a week after the accidental death of 21-year-old star Shain Gandee.
Network spokesman Jake Urbanski confirmed the news, saying it was "not an easy decision."

The star of MTV's reality show "Buckwild," described as a "redneck 'Jersey Shore'," was found dead last week. 21-year-old Shain Gandee had gone "mudding" with his uncle and a friend when their truck got stuck. All three died of carbon monoxide poisoning in the truck while waiting for help.

You should really not be surprised that MTV's lifestyles of the young and the redneck documentary Buckwild was canceled, despite all the unfortunate press surrounding the death of castmate Shain Gandee. The network might have heralded the show as Thursday's #1 cable series, but only averaging 3 million viewers across its first season—while solid—isn't close to what MTV needs to stay relevant (answer to that: more guidos and shirtless wolves). So don't fret: numbers-wise, it wasn't Jersey Shore. Hell, it wasn't even Catfish.
But someone is fretting, and fretting hardcore: producer J.P. Williams is stunned that MTV pulled out of the show so abruptly, midway through production on the second season. Here's how he sharted on MTV's face:
