In October 2017, Hollywood became the story. The New York Times’ blockbuster investigation of Harvey Weinstein shook the entertainment industry, unleashing a torrent of stories about harassment, abusive bosses, and exploitative power dynamics. The vast majority of victims who came forward were women, but just three weeks into what is now known as the #MeToo era, actor Anthony Rapp (Rent, Star Trek: Discovery) spoke out against Kevin Spacey, accusing the Oscar winner of drunkenly molesting him when he was 14 years old. Rapp said he wanted to “shine another light on the...

The AMPTP’s decision to suspend bargaining talks with SAG-AFTRA “really came as a shock” to the union’s president, Fran Drescher.
“What does that exactly mean, and why would you walk away from the table? It’s not like we’re asking for anything that’s so outrageous,” Drescher said in an interview with NBC’s Chloe Melas that aired on the Today show Friday. “It’s so wrong. And it’s so unfair that they walked out of the meeting. And so disrespectful.”
On Thursday, Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos said that talks fell apart after SAG proposed what he called a “levy” on streaming subscribers. The AMPTP said that the proposal would cost them more than $800 million per year.
“That’s an inflated price for the benefit of the press,” Drescher told Melas. “It factors out to 57 cents per year per subscriber, less than a postage stamp.”

Brian Stelter has been a fixture on CNN for nine years, and now that tenure is at an end. The media reporter confirmed on his Twitter feed that his show “Reliable Sources,” the last of its kind on cable news, is coming to an end, and with it his own exit from the network.
Puck’s Dylan Byers, himself a former media reporter alongside Stelter at CNN, reports that Stelter was summoned to new CNN chief Chris Licht’s office on Wednesday “looking ashen.” The final episode of “Reliable Sources” will be this Sunday, August 21.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has released a new statement about what actions they’re taking regarding Will Smith slapping Chris Rock onstage at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night.
“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” the statement said. “We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”
This statement is issued amid new reports that Academy officials “strongly considered” removing Smith from the ceremony after the slap but before the Best Actor category was presented.
During the ceremony, presenter Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith being in “G.I. Jane 2” because of her short hair. Will Smith rushed the stage and smacked Rock while the comedian was about to present the Best Documentary Oscar to “Summer of Soul.

Harvey Weinstein was rushed to a hospital Monday after complaining of chest pains, CNN reports, just hours after being found guilty of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act by a Manhattan jury.
Weinstein was remanded into custody after the verdict was handed down but was transferred to Bellevue Hospital instead of his original destination of Rikers Island, Weinstein’s spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, told CNN’s Chloe Melas. He was ordered into custody until his sentencing on March 11. A representative did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Weinstein could face up to 29 years in prison and it is expected his defense team will appeal the verdict soon.

In May 2018, CNN reporters An Phung and Chloe Melas published an investigative story about Morgan Freeman that detailed allegations of harassment and inappropriate behavior leveled by eight women.
So when Freeman’s voice was heard narrating the opening video at Tuesday’s WarnerMedia presentation to investors, it was a surprise — and a slap in the face to some CNN staffers, given that CNN is a WarnerMedia company.
“It’s disgusting,” one CNN employee told Variety. “So many of us were scratching our heads in shock, wondering how something like this could even happen.” (No CNN staffers would talk to Variety on the record for fear of reprisal.)
The video compilation was meant to illustrate AT&T’s, Warner Bros.’ and Turner’s accomplishments as separate companies that are now one. Imagery of telephones, satellites, movies (from “Casablanca” to the “Harry Potter” films), television shows and CNN journalists flashed across the screen at Warner Bros.

SAG-AFTRA has decided against rescinding Morgan Freeman’s Life Achievement Award after reviewing allegations of sexual harassment against the actor.
“Based on the results of an independent investigation and the information we have at this time, we are taking no action regarding the SAG Life Achievement award presented to Morgan Freeman,” said a SAG-aftra spokesperson on Thursday. “As always, the details of the investigation are confidential.”
The union announced on May 24 that SAG-aftra could take “corrective actions” as a result of the accusations, which emerged in a CNN report by Chloe Melas in which eight women alleged that he sexually harassed them or made inappropriate remarks. Melas alleged that she was subjected to inappropriate behavior by Freeman when she interviewed him at a press junket for “Going in Style” while Melas was six months pregnant.
Freeman said in a statement about the report, “I did not create unsafe work environments.

Despite Morgan Freeman’s claims that CNN committed “journalistic malpractice” and defamed him with a May 24 story in which eight women accused the actor of inappropriate behavior, the Oscar-winning star may not have much of a legal case.
While Freeman’s lawyers on Tuesday demanded a retraction, legal experts told TheWrap that the actor would face an uphill battle pursuing the matter in court.
“A public figure like a movie star is going to have an especially difficult time because they have to prove a high level of recklessness in doing this story,” Frank LoMonte, a media law professor at the University of Florida and director of the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information, told TheWrap. “They’re almost going to have to prove it was a purposeful hit job.”
He explained that First Amendment protections have led to a “purposefully high bar” for public figures to win defamation cases.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham has taken a lot of heat since Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg launched an advertiser boycott of her show in March, but a look at the Nielsen ratings suggest her program “The Ingraham Angle” has only benefited from the notoriety.

The actor and Madam Secretary executive producer is looking into legal action against CNN, which on May 24 published a report of Freeman’s alleged harassment of eight women. The behavior reportedly included unwanted touching and offensive public comments about women’s clothing or bodies.
A letter Freeman’s attorneys sent to the cable news network Monday characterized the story, reported by CNN’s Chloe Melas and An Phung, as “journalistic malpractice” that included “falsehoods” and “malicious intent.

A lawyer for Morgan Freeman has issued a statement demanding CNN apologize and retract its May 24 story accusing the actor of multiple instances of sexual harassment.
In a letter to CNN president Jeff Zucker, Robert M. Schwartz, an attorney for the Oscar-winning actor, claims the article, where eight women have accused Freeman of harassment and inappropriate behavior, was “used to unjustly attack him.” He goes on to argue that the piece suffers from “…malicious intent, falsehoods, sleight-of-hand, an absence of editorial control, and journalistic malpractice.”
Schwartz claims that one of the article’s authors Chloe Melas “baited and prodded” witnesses and victims to speak out against Freeman and was motivated by personal bias. Melas says she was harassed by the actor during a junket interview for “Going in Style” — at the time, Freeman allegedly told the pregnant reporter that she was “ripe” and commented on her body. In a Tuesday letter sent directly to CNN President Jeff Zucker and obtained by TheWrap, Freeman’s attorney accused the cable news channel of defaming their client.
“It is clear that CNN has defamed Mr. Freeman,” one of the most damning paragraphs reads. “CNN has inflicted serious injury on his reputation and career. At a minimum, CNN immediately needs to issue a retraction and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels, and with the same level of attention, that it used to unjustly attack him.”...

A year before the #MeToo era rocked Hollywood, ESPN podcast producer Julia Lowrie Henderson was investigating sexual assault and rape accusations that led to the downfall of yoga guru Bikram Choudhury.
Her research took her across America to India and Mexico, and resulted in ESPN’s dark and eye-opening “30 for 30” podcast series chronicling Bikram’s fall from grace.
The multiple accusations against Choudhury date back to 2013, and while they “made a big splash” then, they faded away from the media spotlight, Henderson said. “When #MeToo launched [in October 2017], there was a point when I kept expecting Bikram’s name to be brought back into that conversation and it just didn’t happen, which I found surprising but made it even more exciting that we were doing this series,” she told TheWrap.

Eight women have come forward to accuse Morgan Freeman of sexual harassment, according to a report published today by CNN's Chloe Melas, who described herself as one of them. Dating back over ten years, the accusations include claims of inappropriate comments and unwanted touching, sometimes persisting over prolonged periods.
Some of the accusers, who reportedly worked on film sets with the actor, say that they didn't report the alleged incidents because they were afraid of repercussions. They assert that there were witnesses present on several occasions when Freeman behaved inappropriately.
The claims also extend to behaviour alleged creating a hostile environment for women in Freeman's company, Revelations Entertainment, which was founded with the aim of creating more opportunities for people of colour working in the film industry.
Responding to the allegations, Freeman has stated that he would never intentionally cause unease or offence and has offered an apology to anyone.

Seeing recent pics of Leonardo DiCaprio and Rihanna club hopping seriously got us thinking. Damn, after letting himself go, how is Leo still scoring all these hot chicks? Well, my friends, the truth has finally come out.
Turns out, Rihanna’s new man is actually Leo’s Bff, club owner Richie Akiva. A very wealthy, VIP club owner, might I add. Leo and RiRi have been spotted partying multiple times, most recently on Valentine’s Day, when they were caught leaving NYC club Up & Down (one of the spots Akiva owns) at 4:30 Am. Richie is the one who seems to be ducking the cameras.
Behold: Rihanna’s new man.
Very slick, guys. If you thought Leo and Rihanna were a strange match anyway, you weren’t alone. The Gossip Table‘s Chloe Melas shares her personal experience with the singer’s fondness for rich club owners.
