The country music world was rocked when superstar duo Florida Georgia Line announced their breakup in 2022. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken, wondering what could have caused the seemingly inseparable pair to go their separate ways. Now, Brian Kelley, one-half of the iconic group, is opening up about the factors that led to the end of an era.
A Desire for Solo Pursuits
Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard met during their senior year at Belmont University in Nashville. They quickly became close friends and started writing songs together. They formed the country music duo Florida Georgia Line and had their first big break in 2012 with the single “Cruise.” After ten years of chart-topping hits, tours, and ventures that included a Nashville bar, they shocked fans by announcing the end of Fgl in 2022.

The annual showcase Spotify House will return to the Ole Red honky-tonk in Nashville for CMA Fest 2024. Marking its fifth year, the event will pack dozens of performances into its schedule across three days from Thursday, June 6, through Saturday, June 8. This year’s lineup includes appearances from Luke Bryan, Lady A, Cole Swindell, Brett Young, and other well-known stars, but it’s the focus on up-and-coming breakouts like Wyatt Flores, Dylan Gossett, and “Austin” singer Dasha that give this year’s lineup its fresh edge.

In a recent interview, Tyler Hubbard, one-half of the country music duo Florida Georgia Line, opened up about the reasons behind the group’s surprising breakup in 2022. Hubbard and his bandmate Brian Kelley had been making music together for over a decade, churning out hit after hit and building a devoted fanbase. So, what led to the end of this successful partnership?
Florida Georgia Line’s Nashville Restaurant Abruptly Closes
In addition to making country music hits, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley opened a Nashville restaurant together. Fgl House opened in 2017, one of the first bars in Nashville bearing the name of a country music star.
Bars connected to artists such as Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Garth Brooks have since opened in downtown Nashville. A bar owned by Morgan Wallen will open over Memorial Day weekend.
The congested bar scene on Broadway in Nashville is down one watering hole.

State lines make good neighbors. At least that’s what the bros of bro-country’s biggest band, Florida Georgia Line, have learned since they broke up two years ago. On two episodes of the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, each bro gave broadly conflicting reasons about why they can’t bro and won’t bro like they used to. The bros, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, can’t even agree upon which bro broached a breakup first.
Hubbard’s version is that his bro broadsided him. “For me, it was really unexpected,...

Just like Florida Georgia Line itself, the bro-country duo’s Nashville bar is kaput. Fgl House, which first opened its doors in June 2017 with a ribbon cutting by members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, has closed and will be replaced by a new Lainey Wilson venture.
The shuttering of Fgl House marks the first country-star branded bar of the modern era to close in Nashville. Tc Restaurant Group, which operates bars by the likes of Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, and, formerly, Florida Georgia Line, will partner with Wilson to create Bell Bottoms Up.

At one time, Florida Georgia Line was on top of the country music world. They formed in 2010 and released five albums, winning several awards along the way. However, the band broke up in 2022, with only a greatest hits album coming since that time.
While Tyler Hubbard has gone on to have a nice solo career, he has recently discussed the chances for a Florida Georgia Line reunion.
Tyler Hubbard On Florida Georgia Line Reunion
Florida Georgia Line was on top of the world for over a decade. Together, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley released five studio albums, four of them hitting number one on the country music charts and one even hitting the top of the Billboard charts (Anything Goes).
The only album that didn’t hit the top of the country charts was Life Rolls On, which topped out at third. It was also the only album that didn’t go platinum.

The Beatles‘ “Let It Be” is one of the most beloved hit songs of the 1970s. Florida Georgia Line have every reason to try to mimic the song. One of Florida Georgia Line’s biggest hits has a chord progression that sounds like that of “Let It Be.” Interestingly, a member of Florida Georgia Line said the band’s fans had a strong response to the song in question.
A Florida Georgia Line song has a structure like The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’ and other hits
Florida Georgia Line became famous for “bro country” songs like “Cruise” and “This Is How We Roll” that focus on sexy ladies, partying, beer, and trucks. Their love song “H.O.L.Y.” is a departure from that style. “H.O.L.Y.,” an acronym for “high on loving you,” is a ballad that blends spirituality with sensuality.
Rolling Stone reports that “H.O.L.Y.” uses a descending chord progression similar to The Beatles’ “Let It Be.

There aren’t too many country music stars bigger than Jason Aldean. He is friends with Carrie Underwood, but his reputation isn’t always as clean as hers. The controversy over Aldean’s song “Try That in a Small Town” wasn’t the first time he faced backlash and public outcry in his career.

In case you haven’t heard, season 23 of “The Voice” will be Blake Shelton‘s last. Blake has been one of four coaches on the long-running singing competition series since it began in 2011. He is not only the longest-tenured coach at the full 23 seasons so far, but also boasts the most wins with nine, including in season 22 with Bryce Leatherwood. Needless to say, Blake’s red chair, cowboy boots, and alcohol-filled cup (allegedly) will be hard to fill by anyone else, but there must be a replacement. We think the void can only be filled by someone with enough country music cachet to match Blake’s and so we’ve compiled a list of 16 industry stars that would fit the bill. Scroll through our gallery of potential Blake replacements above (or click here for direct access).

The married couple’s hit, “Thank God,” was named video of the year Sunday and broke Carrie Underwood’s four-year winning streak to collect the top prize.
“This is all so new to me and when we recorded this song a year ago, I never in my life would ever think that this was going to happen,” Katelyn Brown said onstage, kissing Kane Brown afterward.
“I want to say thank you so much to my amazing husband. I love you. This is so special that we get to share this together every night.”

Ross explains that he and his team “had the idea of not doing a traditional music video with this song. We knew the lyric lent itself easily to a classic bar setting, but those videos are a dime a dozen nowadays, so we tried to think outside of the box. Originally, we had the idea of making me a construction worker, but then Wales proposed the idea of a firefighter, which brought the video concept to life.”

Alongside the Country Music Association Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards are the pinnacle of the country music scene, although they have a tendency to lean commercial and snub artists like Brandi Carlile and Willie Nelson who are currently less prominent on country radio. With this year’s nominations just around the corner and many artists potentially in the mix, let’s take a look at the best of the best in the world of country and whose names you should expect to see on nomination morning.
As with virtually every country music award show these days, if there’s someone you can bet will be nominated, it’s Luke Combs. The uber-popular singer-songwriter has been one of the biggest names in the genre, dropping some of the biggest hits of the past 10 years. This time around, he will be competing with his latest record, “Growin’ Up.” The album...

Since becoming a parent to her 1-year-old son, Grayson, Mickey Guyton has been completely changed by motherhood. She and her husband, Grant Savoy, welcomed their baby boy on Feb. 8, 2021, and his arrival has shifted the singer's perspective around parenting - so much so that she's partnered with 3M for the company's school-zone safety initiative, which is using innovative reflective road markings and traffic signs to create more visible school zones in 100 schools around the world by 2024.
"I've realized that motherhood is traumatizing, first of all."
Guyton tells Popsugar that she chose to team up with 3M because its cause is something that's become near and dear to her heart. "Minorities are always served last, but 3M is making sure that they are served first, and that's something that's so important for me," she says. Guyton admits she was "mortified" when she discovered the statistics on injuries and accidents that occur in school zones,...

The producers of the 2021 CMT Music Awards were clearly paying attention. After a year-plus national conversation about equity, diversity, and, yes, racism, Wednesday night’s CMT Awards made a clear attempt to be inclusive, devoting airtime to artists and personalities of color.
Instead of putting all of their effort into one token set piece or presentation, the show highlighted a diverse group of black voices throughout the broadcast. There was the superb black vocal group the Shindellas opening the awards with Lady A. There was Blanco Brown playing the spoons into a commercial break.
