Dhaka, July 22 (Ians) India and Bangladesh will be sharing the women’s Odi series trophy after the decider match ended in a thrilling and dramatic tie at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, with the series scoreline ending at 1-1.
Opener Fargana Hoque scored 107, her first Odi hundred, and also became the first centurion from Bangladesh in women’s 50-over international cricket. Her effort, along with Shamima Sultana’s 52, helped Bangladesh post a respectable 225 for 4 on a spin-friendly pitch.
In reply, knocks of 77 and 59 from Harleen Deol and Smriti Mandhana respectively kept India in the hunt for winning the match and series. But from 191 for four in the 42nd over, India dramatically lost their next six wickets for just 34 runs, including two in the 48th over, to be all out for 225 in 49.3 overs.
With no Super Over held due to the paucity of time, India and Bangladesh will be sharing the Odi series trophy.

Dhaka, July 19 (Ians) In India’s ongoing Odi series against Bangladesh, Jemimah Rodrigues was presented with a challenge: of batting at number five, a position where she never batted previously.
For someone who has batted majorly as an opener or in the top-order, the shift to number five came for Jemimah, a selfless team-player, came after being urged to do so by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and interim head coach Nooshin Al Khadeer.
“No, I don’t think there’s much of a change in my mindset (batting down the order). I think the captain and the coach came up to me and they said, we need you to bat at number five, to help the team. I was like, if my team needs me to do it, I’m ready to bat anywhere, wherever you send me,” said Jemimah in the post-match press conference after her career-best 86 at number five...

Dhaka, July 19 (Ians) Before being handed the ball in defence of 228 in the second women’s Odi against Bangladesh in the 30th over, Jemimah Rodrigues had taken only one wicket in the format.
But with the spin-aiding pitch having extra bounce to work with, Jemimah took four wickets, giving only three runs in 3.1 overs to bowl out Bangladesh for 120, giving India a massive 108-run win and helped them level the three-game series 1-1.
Jemimah also became the first India women’s cricketer to take four wickets and score a fifty in the same Odi match.
“I just wanted to pitch the ball in the right area and allow the surface to do the rest. Glad that the captain believed in me,” said Jemimah after winning the Player of the match award for her all-round performance, which included a career-best effort of 86 with the bat.

Dubai, April 20 (Ians) She may have led the Indian Women’s T20 squad in international matches on and off since 2019 but England captain Heather Knight says Smriti Mandhana found the pressure too much and struggled to manage captaincy during the recently-concluded Women’s Premier League (Wpl).
Mandhana found captaincy “quite tricky” during the Wpl and struggled to manage the hype that came with the role, her Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Heather Knight has said.
Knight, speaking on the latest 100% Cricket Podcast, suggested the hype surrounding the inaugural edition of the Wpl and the pressure that comes with captaining a high-profile team affected Mandhana, whose side won just twice in eight matches.
Mandhana was charged with leading a side comprising international heavyweights in Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Dane van Niekerk, Megan Schutt and Knight herself, but Rcb still finished fourth out of five teams.

Mumbai, March 21 (Ians) Mumbai Indians (Mi) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) by four wickets in Match 19 of the Women’s Premier League (Wpl) on Tuesday at the D.Y Patil Stadium here to take the top spot.
With the win, Mumbai hold the provisional top spot and will have to wait for the result of the match between Delhi Capitals and Up Warriorz to ensure their direct qualification to the final.
Amelia Kerr mixed guile, flight, and turn to pick up three wickets (3-22) as a disciplined bowling effort from the Mi bowlers restricted Rcb to 125/9 in 20 overs. Yastika Bhatia then provided a good platform with a 26-ball 30 before Kerr’s calculated knock of 31 not out off 27 balls helped Mi seal the chase after a slight stutter in the middle.

With losses in all of its five matches so far, the Smriti Mandhana-led side are under immense pressure to win the rest of its three games and hope for other results to go their way for making a miraculous entry into the playoffs.
Left-handed Smriti, also the opener for Rcb, has been a shadow of her fluent self with the bat, making only 88 runs in five innings averaging 17.60 at a strike rate of 117.33. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim believes one big knock from Smriti can give the turnaround Rcb need in their Wpl campaign.

Hove (England), Sep 19 (Ians) India batter Smriti Mandhana indicated she was disappointed at missing out on a One-day International century against England Women in the opening match win here, saying remaining unbeaten at the end of the game would have been great.
Mandhana, who was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for her brilliant 91 off 99 balls as India chased down the hosts’ 227/7 in 44.2 overs for the loss of just three wickets to begin the Odi series on a winning note, said following the victory that batting in the 50-over format came naturally to her, while in T20Is she had to “put effort” to take care of the strike rate.
“I would’ve enjoyed it better with a not-out at the end. Thanks to the supporters for coming out, happy to put out a show for them,” said Mandhana.
