Chris Blue, I put my “Money on You” to take home the title. I also spent my money on him, downloading his insanely catchy original single off iTunes. But when the dust settled on Season 12 of The Voice, when we stopped commenting on how mumble-mouthed a singer Hunter Plake is, groaning before every Mark Isaiah performance, doing shots anytime it was mentioned that Quizz Swanigan is the youngest competitor ever, hoping that Lilli Passero would live up to her Blind Auditions potential, and wondering if it was possible for Carson Daly to appear less engaged and more disingenuous, did Team Alicia’s master showman win?...

Chris Blue and R.J. Collins of Team Alicia duked it out in the battle rounds on Tuesday's The Voice, and things got a little unexpectedly flirtatious between Gwen Stefani and the two hopefuls.
After the pair delivered a stirring performance of Miguel's "Adorn," it was apparent that both singers had talent, but Chris was the clear standout. But when it came time for the coaches to give some feedback, Gwen had a hard time focusing on the actual vocals.

Night 1 of The Voice’s Season 12 Battle Rounds was such a head-scratcher that it’s a wonder I still had a singular Homer Simpson hair left up there by the time it was over. Did you see The Voice Season 12 premiere blind auditions? Aside from some awkward inserts of the coaches’ Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani romance they had a pretty relaxed vibe to it. Gwen and coach Alicia Keys have a connection in terms of them both coming from the heart. Blake’s relationship with Alicia is as solid as last season. Coach Adam Levine also seems to have a good rapport with both Gwen and Alicia, while the fun competitive bromance between him and Blake is still fun. The Voice closes out its first week of Blind Auditions with a special third night, which is really just the second half of the second night. This one hour installment of The Voice's Blind Auditions doesn't drastically rock the boat for season 12. Even the customary four chair turn that closes out the episode is nothing revolutionary. The ball is sufficiently kept rolling however in this solid start to the season, no matter how hard Blake and Gwen try to shove their relationship down our throats.

With Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani both serving as coaches on season 12 of The Voice, it's clear that their romantic relationship is already playing a role in their professional rivalry-- it actually seems to have made them more competitive!
When aspiring singer Savannah Leighton delivered a rousing performance of "Unconditionally" during the second night of blind auditions on Tuesday, Shelton was the first coach to turn around -- and was about to be the only one when Stefani swooped in at the last minute.
The competitive drive between the pair didn't go unnoticed by fellow coaches Adam Levine and Alicia Keys. After Stefani went up to hug Leighton -- who burst into tears as they embraced -- Shelton was quick to call foul.

With Gwen Stefani's return to The Voice this season, the singer is facing off against her boyfriend, fellow coach Blake Shelton. However, it's clear from Monday's season 12 premiere that their relationship isn't going to keep them from getting competitive.
The first round of blind auditions were a chance for the coaches to start building their teams, and from the first singer, JChosen, all four coaches -- including Adam Levine and Alicia Keys -- turned their chairs and kicked the night off with a four-way contest for the soulful hopeful.
After the coaches begged, pleaded and all but bribed the 29-year-old singer to join their teams, JChosen surprised everyone by choosing Stefani -- which blew her mind as well. However, the person on their feet clapping for her was Shelton, who couldn't help but be excited for his lady love.

Weird silhouetted people popping out of one singer’s backdrop like unwelcome whack-a-moles. Judges spending more time discussing another contestant’s pre-performance “confidence issues” than her actual vocal. A third artist being forced to perform in the midst of a baffling outdoor café set — complete with hedges and a monstrous video of a fountain — then being damned with faint praise for delivering “the most different thing I’ve heard on the show.”

Team Blake, Team Adam, Team Gwen and (after 12 hours of auditions) Team Pharrell have named the 48 artists who will go on to vie for the title of The Voice. In this round, teammates are pitted against each other to perform duets, which will determine whether or not they continue to the Knockouts. Remember, this is when the steal comes into play. Any artist not chosen as a winner of their own Battle can be scooped up by another coach. So, once again, we have coaches vying to work with the best artists.

Here we are, at the fifth and final night of Blind Auditions for The Voice season 9. Going into the final round, Team Adam, Team Gwen, Team Pharrell and Team Blake have 10 artists each. Two of those competing artists are actually duos, but we are going to refer to them in the singular for simplicity's sake going forward. In other words, Pharrell has 11 individuals on his team, but because two of those are a duo, we will say that he has only 10 artists, leaving him room for two more. Same goes for Adam. Make sense? During this final night of Blinds, Gwen, Blake, Pharrell and Adam will have to be prudent about which vocals they hit their buzzer for because they can only add two more artists each.

Almost all of the awards are given out beforehand, so the actual telecast features only a dozen awards (give or take) and a wide assortment of performance. Follow along and join the conversation as I live-blog all of those performances, plus all of the awards, even though I have no real opinions on the inevitable winners and losers. It should be fun! 8:00 p.m. Et. "Madam Secretary" and "The Good Wife" will be back next week! 8:00 p.m. Thank you, LL, for reminding me of the things we were talking about after last year's Grammys. I remember none of those things. 8:01 p.m. "For those about to rap, for those about to sing, for those about to play, we salute you!" LL Cool J says, introducing...

Rumors of a folk legend’s death may get completely exaggerated in the wake of tonight’s installment of The Voice.
I mean, if I hadn’t known better, I might’ve been Googling “Joni Mitchell — still alive?” after No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani started her critique of DaNica Shirey’s “Help Me” cover with by paying lavish tribute to the “Big Yellow Taxi” singer, then somberly declaring, “Joni would’ve liked that”… as if Joni isn’t alive and well and most likely still able to switch on her television set to the NBC affiliate in whatever American city she’s currently residing.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Voice fans!
No, I am not advocating the early avalanche of holiday-themed advertising in early November — or throwing subtle shade over another season of NBC’s reality singing juggernaut without social-media dingbat Christina Milian in the “Sprint Skybox.”
I am, however, stoked that We the People (Who Spend Too Much Time Watching TV, Then Subsequently Downloading and Voting), are finally free of the history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these contestants.
(Did I actually quote the Declaration of Independence to express my...

It was the best of mentors, it was the worst of injustices for The Voice‘s final set of Season 7 Knockout Rounds.
On one hand: Can we get a “hip-hip hurrah!” to celebrate the keen insight and serious commitment displayed by megastar Taylor Swift as the Knockouts mentor for all four teams? You might want to shake, shake, shake the sound of her latest, crazy-ubiquitous hit single from your eardrums, but you’ve got to admit a future Voice cycle anchored by her and Pharrell Williams might be the only way Blake Shelton will ever get to take a season off.

The current, ubiquitous single by Taylor Swift, international music superstar and the best guest coach in The Voice‘s seven season history — gay blasphemy coming atcha in 5, 4, 3, 2… — by just a nose over Cher, champions the concept of “shaking it off.”
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break/ And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake/ Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake/ I shake it off, I shake it off
It’s an excellent, albeit simplistically worded, life philosophy, and yet at this moment in my relationship with NBC’s reality singing competition, I just cahhhhhhn’t.

Tonight begins the first of three Knockout Rounds for season 7 of The Voice. We've been through Blind Auditions and Battle Rounds. There has been some blood-letting along the way. Copious tears have fallen as well; tears of joy at being chosen, tears of sorrow at being left at the altar of almost-stardom and tears of exhaustion at having watched every performer live through the experience.
Coaches Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams are assisted in tonight's coaching by powerhouse and multi-Grammy-winning artist Miss Taylor Swift. I, for one, cannot wait 'til things get started tonight. Part of the allure of The Voice is getting to see the real personalities of the coaches as they chat among themselves and as they interact with the contestants. Taylor Swift is somewhat of an enigma to me. She's one of my teenage daughter's favorite artists and, therefore, a role model in my baby's eyes.

Mama said knock you out, goes the L.L. Cool J classic — and that’s exactly what The Voice will aim to do when Knockout Rounds begin Monday (8/7c on NBC).
But as the Season 7 coaches — Pharrell, Gwen, Adam and Blake — prepare to whittle down their teams in head-to-head solo matchups, who’s got the momentum? After all, the Knockout proceedings will whittle each team from eight hopefuls to four (with one Steal added from an opposing coach’s roster) — and that means only 20 of the 32 current artists will proceed to the Live Playoffs.
We went back and re-assessed each of...

Heaven help me, I’ve taken to using lyrics from the Broadway musical Chicago in my recap headlines for The Voice. (Sample comment from my husband, reading over my shoulder, “I don’t get that reference. At all.” #GayCardRevoked)
But I swear, there’s good reason for my flight of fancy. After all, Season 7’s Blind Auditions yielded exactly one promising jazz vocalist — and yet after a Battle Rounds process that whittled the field from 48 down to 32 contestants, that chica is as extinct as the dodo emu, as defunct as the Walkman in your “shame-shame closet,” as mopped up as...

Like those old episodes of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom where the straggler impala gets picked off by the hungry lioness, The Voice‘s Battle Rounds are compelling (though not necessarily comforting) viewing.
Only the strongest voices — or at least those attached to the youngest, doe-eyed-iest, most social-media-approved bodies — survive the two-person, one-song contests.
And while I understand those who wince at the inherent cruelty of whittling a pool of 48 singers down to 32 (eight Battle “losers” get second chances via The Steal), it’s nevertheless a necessary evil. I mean, let’s be honest: After three consecutive weeks of Blind Auditions,...

Let the bloodletting and chaff-separating begin!
Tonight’s final installment of The Voice‘s Season 7 Blind Auditions was about as strong as a freshly-hatched chick trying to budge an anvil — side note: I need an inspirational poster with that exact visual — and whet my appetite for the rapid-fire eliminations of the Battle Rounds.

Pharrell got down on his knees to win over Katriz Trinidad in the third round of blind auditions on The Voice, beating out Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton while Adam Levine looked on.
Blind Auditions Part 4
Katriz Trinidad, 15, the daughter of immigrant parents, had her entire family backstage cheering her on for her audition – Etta James’ “At Last.” Katriz’s control and tone got Gwen, Pharrell and Blake to turn around before she got through with the first verse. At the end of her first run, Pharrell stood up for her, and he was clearly in love.
“I never thought that I would ever find something that I usually look for my own label. Like, I’ve been dreaming for an artist like you all my career,” Pharrell said. “I want you on my team, so bad, and I’ve never done this,” he said, getting on his knees. Pharrell’s pleading worked,...

“Why Aren’T You All Turning Your Chairs? Turn Your Chairs! Turn Them! Turn Them!”
Oh dear. I am so sorry to begin this recap of The Voice‘s fourth round of Season 7 Blind Auditions with an all-caps rant, but come on, I’m not the only one who finds himself shouting and gesticulating wildly when Gwen, Pharrell, Adam and Blake ignore winning PowerBall tickets falling from heaven, am I?
And by “winning PowerBall tickets,” of course, I mean serious contenders like Toia Jones and Amanda Lee Peers, who tonight had to settle for two- and one-chair turns, respectively, while...

She's not just a girl. She's a star! Powerhouse singer Anita Antoinette returned to The Voice on Monday, showing her moxie and persistence on the third night of Season 7 blind auditions to earn a four-chair turn and praise from all the coaches as a blossoming, much-improved performer. And Gwen Stefani showed that she came to compete by snagging Antoinette, one of the evening's most coveted contestants, and cheekily asking veterans Adam Levine and Blake Shelton why they let her go in in Season 3. "What have you been doing since Blake and Adam didn't choose you?" the "Just a Girl" singer asked the Jamaican-born,...

'The Voice' Recap: Blind Auditions Part 3 - Gwen Stefani Wins Over Returning Artist Anita Antoinette
Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton battled it out in another round of Blind Auditions on The Voice, picking up standouts Kelli Douglas and returning artist Anita Antoinette.
Blind Auditions Part 3
John Martin “Sweet Pea” The cute son of a pastor who dropped out of college when his dad lost his job, and plays both the piano and the guitar. He kicked off his performance with a sweet whistle, before launching into the song. Blake was the first to turn around, and for a while it looked like he would get John on his team by default, but then Gwen turned around, soon followed by Pharrell. John told the coaches he saw himself writing “cheesy love songs,” prompting Gwen to wave her hands in the air and say, “That’s me!” In the end, Blake’s early turn won John over. John Martin: Team Blake.
