For close to 30 years, feature film adaptations of popular video games have been battling against the stigma that they’re part of a cursed genre. The overwhelming majority of them have suffered from either critical or commercial disappointment, and in many cases both. It requires a delicate balancing act, with the movies needing to appeal to the core fanbase despite stripping away the level of control that made the games popular in the first place, while still being enjoyable for casual audiences who may have never picked up a controller in their life.
Thankfully, there’s been a minor resurgence of sorts over the last few years, which came crashing back down when Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter bombed at the box office even by current standards, while managing to offend the whole of China. And with Warner Bros.’ Mortal Kombat reboot now getting the benefit of a simultaneous HBO Max release,...

After well over a decade trapped in development hell, Sony’s Uncharted is finally set to hit theaters in July of next year, and at this stage, there’s absolutely no guarantee that it won’t become the latest in a long line of video game adaptations to bomb at the box office.
Not only is the genre still one of the most wildly inconsistent in Hollywood, but the overwhelming majority of the movies themselves tend to range from entirely forgettable to abjectly terrible. Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog may have hit the sweet spot of critical and commercial acclaim, but they’re only 2 of almost 40 console-to-screen projects to reach the big screen over the last three decades.
Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer still hasn’t made a better film than his debut feature Zombieland, writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway’s recent credits include Punisher: War Zone, Transformers: The Last Knight...

The infamous Super Mario Bros. was Hollywood’s first attempt at turning a recognizable video game into a feature-length movie, and based on how awful the finished product was, you’d imagine it would all be uphill from there. Unfortunately, however, console-to-screen adaptations are still struggling to escape the stigma of being labeled as a cursed subgenre, but there have definitely been signs of a resurgence.
Not only have five of the six highest-grossing video game movies ever been released since 2016, but the only two efforts to have been awarded a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes arrived within nine months of each other when Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog scored a 68% and 63% respectively. Monster Hunter may have ended the winning streak, but there are some major releases coming next year to try and turn the tide.

You can usually tell based on nothing more than a synopsis what kind of Mark Wahlberg you’re going to get, such is the actor’s reliance on the two very different approaches to his career. There’s the underrated comedic star and unappreciated dramatic talent that’s done great work over the last two decades in projects as diverse as Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Departed and The Fighter, while there’s also the action hero seen in such forgettable B-movies as Contraband, Shooter, Max Payne and his regular collaborations with Peter Berg.
The 49 year-old’s upcoming schedule illustrates this point perfectly. His next effort is low budget drama Joe Bell, which hails from rising directorial star Reinaldo Marcus Green, who won the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Outstanding First Feature thanks to his acclaimed debut Monsters and Men.

The final major event of 2020’s gaming calendar is due to kick off next week and it’s looking likely that the occasion will be playing host to several big announcements.
Hosted once again by Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards will celebrate some of the best titles released over the last 12 months and recognize their achievements in a number of different categories, including the ultimate accolade: Game of the Year. Competing for that coveted prize will be Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades and The Last of Us Part II, and it goes without saying that we’ll be watching with bated breath to see who takes home the gong.
Perhaps even more exciting than the above, though, is the usual deluge of world premiere trailers debuted at the ceremony. Previous years have seen major titles such as Mortal Kombat 11 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice officially announced...

We sure hope to see a lot more of him as Spider-Man in the McU, but even if his web-slinging opportunities suddenly dried up, Tom Holland would still be a much in-demand star. Just this year, for example, he’s featured in an acclaimed Netflix psychological drama and is currently shooting the long-awaited Uncharted movie as a young Nathan Drake. The film world is his oyster, then, but could a trip into the Star Wars universe be on its way?

The first set photo from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man 3 arrived online almost as soon as the crew pitched up in New York City, but the vast majority of filming will be taking place outside of the Big Apple. There weren’t even any cast members involved at the start, with the second unit simply picking up inserts and background shots in NYC that will be added in during post-production.

Sony’s Uncharted is gearing up to be the most exciting video game adaptation around the corner, though some fans remain skeptical of the film’s casting choices, particularly the two leads: Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, as Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, respectively.
If anything, the first glimpse at the main protagonist divided folks even further. While the Spider-Man actor looks the part in costume and makeup, he doesn’t seem to come off as the Nathan Drake that people have come to know and love in the video game series over the past decade. For one thing, he has to be way older. And for another, most fans recognize the character as someone with an unparalleled level of charisma and complacency, something that Holland hasn’t shown he can pull off so far.

Assuming Covid-19 hasn’t wiped out the movie theater business by the time 2021 rolls around, cinemagoers and gamers alike are going to be spoiled for choice over the next 12 months or so. Big screen reboots of Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat aside, more, let’s say, family-friendly adventures such as Tomb Raider 2 and, perhaps the most anticipated of them all, Uncharted, are scheduled to drop over the summer months.

Almost exactly 10 years ago, we reported that Mark Wahlberg was up for the lead role of Nathan Drake in David O. Russell’s “Uncharted” film. At the time, this film adaptation of the popular video game franchise was a no-brainer, as people absolutely adore the source material and the story feels just enough like “Indiana Jones” that it could fill a void left by that Spielberg franchise.

Tom Holland gave a first look of himself as Nathan Drake on set for the “Uncharted” movie adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game franchise.
Holland may be playing a younger version of the Indiana Jones-like adventurer Nathan Drake, but he’s got the look down, emulating the khaki attire and leather holster from the “Uncharted” games beautifully.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate,” the “Spider-Man” actor said in a tweet from Thursday.
Holland even got to meet the “real” Nathan Drake on set for the film in Germany, speaking with actor Nolan North, who has voiced Drake in four “Uncharted” games dating all the way back to 2007, with North and Holland “leaking” some photos from the set.
“Like looking into a mirror! Proud to have @TomHolland1996 continuing the Drake legacy! Absolutely smashing it! Thanks for the set visit,” North said in a tweet Thursday morning.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is set to become a game-changing addition to the increasingly perplexing ensemble being assembled for the yet-to-be titled Spider-Man 3. Indeed, the habitual usage of “made-up names” now seems likely.

Moreover, the report confirms a notion regarding the addition of Doctor Strange that seems to be obvious, namely that it will fill the crucial gap of a mentor to the young hero left in the wake of Iron Man/Tony Stark’s sacrificial demise in Avengers: Endgame.
While the franchise’s most recent solo outing, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far from Home, saw a substitute of sorts in Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man is in need of the kind of...

It’s been a long and winding road for the upcoming film adaptation of Uncharted. The project, which is based on the video game franchise of the same name, has been in development on and off since way back in 2008. But though the movie has undergone quite a lot of tribulation in the past twelve years, including various rewrites and the loss of six directors, principal photography finally got underway in March of 2020 under the helm of its seventh director, Ruben Fleischer.

Even though the man formerly known as The Rock has impeccable comic timing and is a much better dramatic actor than he often gets credited for, he still seems content to revert to type in what can simply be described as a Dwayne Johnson Movie.
You know the type, an effects-heavy blockbuster with a budget well past the $100 million mark that sees the 48 year-old coast through the story relying on little more than his natural charisma and some huge set-pieces. The plots are largely formulaic, the dialogue frequently terrible and the movies themselves often painfully uninspired, but the guy is just so damn watchable that they consistently do big business at the box office.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, San Andreas, the two Jumanji sequels, Rampage, Skyscraper and Hobbs & Shaw all fall into this category, and with Jungle Cruise and Netflix’s Red Notice on the horizon,...

Video game adaptations have struggled to escape the stigma that they’re a cursed form of filmmaking, but recent signs are definitely pointing to a shift in the right direction. Not only have five of the six highest-grossing video game movies of all-time been released in the last four years, but the most recent two are the only ones to ever land a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog scoring 68% and 62%, respectively.
Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter seems unlikely to continue the resurgence though, which places all of the pressure on next summer’s Uncharted. Despite having been stuck in development hell for over a decade and seen countless writers, actors and directors come and go in the process, the movie is finally underway with Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer behind the camera, Tom Holland starring as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg lending support as Victor Sullivan.

For a long time now, stalkers and journalists alike have speculated that actor Tom Holland was dating actress Nadia Parkes. And after the Spider-Man star uploaded a picture of her on his Instagram page, the internet has proudly proclaimed that Holland and Parkes have officially entered into a relationship.
You see, around the same time that Holland uploaded his photo, Parkes herself uploaded one on her Instagram page, too. Interestingly, this one didn’t include Holland but featured herself, standing on a bridge. But since she’s wearing the same shirt and jacket tied around her chest in both pics, it appears the two were spending the day together.
You can see all the evidence for yourself down below:

In a recent Instagram post, Mark Wahlberg showed off some of the exercises that are part of his current training routine. For the past few months, the actor has been building muscle in order to fit the part of Jake Sully, an older, wiser mentor figure in an upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise Uncharted.
For those of you who are not familiar with the source material, Uncharted tells the story of a daredevil treasure hunter named Nathan Drake. Developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 3 and 4, the series has grown into not only one of the best-selling game franchises of all time, but also one of the most critically acclaimed.

It might be a while before any new Marvel or DC movies come our way, but Netflix has the next best thing. The streaming giant has today revealed that its psychological thriller The Devil All The Time, which features an incredible cast led by three major superhero superstars, will premiere on the site in September.
Based on the novel by Donald Ray Pollock, The Devil All The Time takes place between World War II and the Vietnam War and tells a non-linear story involving various disturbed people who suffer from the damages of war. Among the top-tier cast is Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Sebastian Stan. Yes, that’s Spider-Man, Batman and the Winter Soldier all leading the same movie.
This one’s been in the can since early 2019, so fans of those actors may have been anticipating it for a while. And now, we finally know when to expect it on Netflix.

Sony’s Uncharted is back on track. Production was shut down due to Coronavirus earlier this year, though they’re back on set now and to mark the occasion, star Tom Holland has shared a picture (seen below) of his chair, which reads ‘Nate.’ This is what hero Nathan Drake is called by his friends and is proof that this long in development video game adaptation is actually going to happen.
Seeing something concrete from Uncharted is welcome, as the film has been in various stages of development hell since its announcement in 2008. Over that time, the following have been officially announced as director: *deep breath* David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, Travis Knight and now, hopefully finally, Zombieland and Venom‘s Ruben Fleischer. As a measure of how much time has passed since they began planning Uncharted, Mark Wahlberg was once cast as go-getting adventurer Nathan Drake.

Tom Holland is set to portray a younger version of Nathan Drake in an upcoming live-action film adaptation of the beloved video game franchise Uncharted. And because Drake is a passionate treasure hunter and fearless parkour runner, he needs to be in pretty good shape to play the character in a believable manner.
As Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia made clear, living up to Hollywood body standards is not just hard, it’s nearly impossible. Luckily for Holland, though, he’s got a good friend to help him along the way.
In a recent post on his Instagram story, the young actor revealed he’s been training with none other than Mark Wahlberg. The team-up is by no means trivial, either, as Wahlberg is set to star as Holland’s own older, wiser mentor in the film, the cigar-chomping Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

The Uncharted movie has been in the works for the longest time, and for the last few years, it’s had Tom Holland attached as an unexpectedly youthful take on the video game archaeologist. Sony was all set to start on the film earlier this year, but like everything else, it was held up due to the pandemic. With the industry warming up again, though, Uncharted will soon be back in business. And Holland has got himself a new ‘do for the role.
The British actor took to Instagram yesterday to upload a short video taken after getting his new hairstyle, which he mocks for its floppiness. It looks as if he’s back to work and given that Uncharted is his current project, it seems likely that this will be the star’s official Nathan Drake haircut – which you can see for yourself in the gallery below.

Sony’s upcoming Uncharted movie should try to avoid directly aping the video game series on which it’s based and do its own thing.
That’s what Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North believes, at least, who revealed in a recent interview that he thinks the film industry doing 1:1 direct adaptations of beloved video game franchises is never a “very good idea.” Speaking to Screen Junkies, North describes how, while he may be the voice of Drake, it’s the player who directly controls him and explores the world, an experience wholly different to watching a story unfold on-screen without any input from the audience.
If they were going to do a one to one type thing – which again, I don’t think is a very good idea for video games, because Uncharted is a movie and you’re the star of that game. You’re the star...

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, one of the highest-grossing and best-rated PlayStation 4 titles of all time, can now be purchased for the shockingly-low price of just $5. The offer is valid at all GameStop stores, and will stick around for a limited time only – so make your move while you can.
To say this is the steal of the year would be an understatement. The title, which currently costs $20 on the PlayStation store, features over a dozen hours of expertly-crafted gameplay and has a killer story to boot. Produced in 2016 by video game developer Naughty Dog – which, for the record, is the same studio that’s known for making instant classics like The Last of Us, as well as the recently-released The Last of Us Part II – it tells the story of Nathan Drake, an Indiana Jones-like treasure-seeker and adrenaline junkie.
Of course, there’s a bit more to it than that.
