With the Mickey Mouse and pre-Mickey Oswald the Lucky Rabbit characters now in the public domain, horror filmmakers are free to get their Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey on and turn the beloved animated icons into horror movie maniacs. Enter Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole, an upcoming horror movie based on the character that was replaced by Mickey.
The project was announced earlier this year, and Bloody Disgusting has learned this week that the legendary Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) will star in the horror film!
The upcoming Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole is being described as a “sinister take on a nostalgic fan-favorite cartoon character encompassing the pure horror genre.”
Hudson will be playing Oswald Jebediah Coleman, a brilliant animator who is cast away to a bone-chilling magical prison. After over 100 years of being trapped there, Oswald’s come-to-life cartoon rabbit is menacing, gruesome and out for blood.

"There'll be no honey, but there will be blood." An early teaser trailer has debuted for a movie inspired by the classic Disney character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Director Lilton Stewart III is currently working on a movie called Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole, set for release sometime in 2024 (no date confirmed just yet). It seems to be animation meets real people mix, though details are sparse on whether it will jump into live-action (kind of like Mickey's Mouse Trap). The description only states it's "a horror/adventure film inspired by Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's Trolley Troubles." The teaser features a look at the setup - a magical TV that teleports viewers into a place lost in time, shrouded by dark Hollywood Magic. A group of friends discovers Oswald's come-to-life cartoon Rabbit, a dark entity that decides their souls are its for the taking. Scary! We'll have to wait to see even more footage eventually,...

Before Mickey Mouse there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a Walt Disney character first introduced in 1927. Oswald was eventually replaced by Mickey Mouse, and the rest is history.
With the Mickey and Oswald characters now in the public domain, a handful of different horror projects have already popped up this year. And another one has been announced today.
Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole, an upcoming horror film “depicting a sinister take on an iconic cartoon classic that encompasses the pure horror genre,” has released its teaser trailer this morning. And it’s a surprisingly effective teaser, channeling the look and feel of a classic black & white cartoon… with a horror twist. You can watch the first teaser down below.
Filmmaker and producer Lilton Stewart III and Lucinda Bruce are working with talent to finalize the roster for the film and will begin filming this spring, we’ve been told.

John Wick actor Lance Reddick has come aboard Faith Based, a satirical take on the Christian film industry from Lone Suspect. Vincent Masciale is directing the comedy, which is also being produced by Giles Daoust of Title Media, Tanner Thomason, and Tim Kerigan. Luke Barnett wrote the script about two idiot friends (played by Funny or Die regulars Barnett and Thomason) who come to the realization that all “faith based” films make buckets of cash, they set out on a mission to make one of their own. Reddick will play Barnett’s disapproving, adoptive father and pastor of Elevate, a hipster church in North Hollywood. He’ll appear in the next John Wick installment, out this Friday, and currently stars in the Amazon Prime series Bosch.
