Shooting kicked off in Dublin on Monday for ITV and BBC streamer BritBox’s latest commission, a new dramedy series titled “The Dry” to be produced by Element Pictures in association with Screen Ireland and ITV Studios. Irish broadcaster RTÉ is also partnering on production.
Roisin Gallagher (“The Fall”) Ciarán Hinds (“Game Of Thrones”), Pom Boyd (“Vanity Fair”), Siobhán Cullen (“Origin”) and Moe Dunford (“Vikings”) headline the series cast, joined by newcomer Adam Richardson. In the show, Shiv Sheridan (Gallagher) returns to Dublin after living abroad in London, sober and well intentioned for the first time in years. Being back home, however, proves to make staying on the wagon more difficult than she expects.

Streamloots, a two-year-old startup that enables gaming streamers to monetize and engage with audiences by selling digital 'cards' that can be purchased by their fans, has just raised additional funding from several top YouTube stars.
The amount of the seed round was undisclosed, but was raised by Caspar Lee (7 million subscribers), Memeulous (4.3 million), and WillNE (4.2 million). It follows a previous $5.6 million investment by Bessemer Venture Partners, and $1 million from Samaipata, bringing Streamloots' total funding to $7.2 million to date, the company said. Lee, Memeulous, and WillNE invested as part of the Creative Investment Fund -- a syndicate of content creator-turned-investors co-founded by Lee and fund manager Sasha Kaletsky.
Streamloots says the capital infusion will be used to fuel user growth and develop new service offerings that will help creators build their own businesses.

YouTube jokester Josh Pieters is doing some of his finest work in isolation, pranking one of quarantine’s most-talked-about figures: animal rights activist Carole Baskin of the Netflix docuseries Tiger King.
Pieters, a South African vlogger with 1.4 million subscribers, who rose to renown as a friend of fellow vlogger Caspar Lee, has nabbed millions of views with past stunts, including tricking the public with an Ed Sheeran lookalike and conducting a prank against right-wing British media personality Katie Hopkins. In quarantine, however, he has made the most of the necessity of remote talk-show interviews, and duped several celebs into thinking they were appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Pieters has created three such interview videos on Zoom -- simply by playing sound bites of each late-night host, prank-call style -- the first two with B-list celebs from the U.K.

Influencer, an influencer marketing platform co-founded by creator Caspar Lee (who serves as the firm’s chief visionary officer) and his business partner, Ben Jeffries, have onboarded a new executive to serve as creative strategist.
In this new role, ad exec Danny Crutchley will oversee Influencer’s creative team to help conceive campaigns, and work closely with Lee, Jeffries, and Influencer’s client services head Nik Speller, The Drum reports. Most recently, Crutchley oversaw commercial partnerships for Ex.co -- a startup formerly known as Playbuzz that helps publishers add interactive components to their articles, including polls, quizzes, lists, and slideshows. He has previously held similar roles at Native Design and Bauer Media.
“We are so proud of the creative campaigns that the Influencer team has delivered over the past year, and we are excited to bring Danny on board to propel these even further,” Lee and Jeffries told The Drum in a joint statement.

In honor of his 10th anniversary on YouTube, U.K. vlogger Alfie Deyes sat down with the video giant's CEO Susan Wojcicki for a wide-ranging, hourlong conversation.
The interview covers multiple well-trodden topics, including demonetization and creator burnout, and was conducted while Wojcicki was on a family holiday across the pond, Deyes notes. The 25-year-old also clarifies that he provided her with his questions in advance of their sitdown. While YouTube’s chief business officer, Robert Kyncl, has previously sat down with creators like Casey Neistat and Caspar Lee to redress their concerns on camera, this is Wojcicki’s first time doing so.
Perhaps one of the most interesting segments of Deyes and Wojcicki’s conversation was the revelation that YouTube is readying a new policy that would seek to curb creator-on-creator harassment -- an issue that was undoubtedly highlighted last month when Vox journalist Carlos Maza noted that the...

Gleam Futures, the U.K. digital talent management company that has lost a number of high-profile clients in recent years, will forge onward with one of its hallmark stars: the lifestyle vlogger Zoe Sugg, who counts 42 million followers across all of her social media channels and is also the proprietor of a successful beauty and lifestyle brand called Zoella.

Wonder Park, the new animation from Paramount, celebrates the limitless imagination of youth. To mark the release of this entertaining family production, we sat down with voice-over stars, and YouTube sensations, Caspar Lee and Joe Sugg. The pair tell us about their own (quite weird) childhood memories and uses of their imagination, while also discussing their favourite ever rides at theme parks.
They go on to discuss the community of influences and YouTubers, and how they all get on (though we do ask if things ever get competitive!). Finally we can’t help but ask Sugg about his experience on Strictly Come Dancing, while Lee tells us which reality TV show he’d be most interested to try out…
Watch the interview below:
Synopsis
Wonder Park tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl named June comes alive.

YouTube star Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson, who has amassed 12.5 million subscribers thanks to social experiments and stunts that often involve large sums of cash, just hosted a competition pitting some of the platform’s buzziest popular stars against one another for a $100,000 prize.
In short, the 12 YouTubers -- Leon Lush, Danny Duncan, Caspar Lee, Alex Ernst, Mini Ladd, Joogsquad, Faze Rug, Faze Rain, Faze Adapt, Callux, WillNE, Ricegum, and Faze Tfue -- had to simply stand in a spray-painted circle for as long as possible. It's a concept that Donaldson has explored on his channel before -- but this time, contestants weren't allowed to sit down, and, every hour, they were saddled with 1 pound of weight onto a special vest that each was wearing.
Rapper Ricegum left the circle immediately after the contest began -- though, over the course of the 24-minute video, other creators truly tested their limits amid several surprises orchestrated by Donaldson,...

In a new interview with popular YouTuber Caspar Lee, YouTube’s chief business officer Robert Kyncl addresses a host of concerns from creators, touching on topics including monetization challenges, Channel Memberships, and burnout.
Lee bluntly asks Kyncl why, back in February, YouTube took monetization away from small creators with fewer than 1,000 subscribers or fewer than 4,000 hours of annual watch time. He points out that, in contrast, big creators with more than 50,000 subscribers not only have AdSense monetization, but have recently been given other avenues through which to monetize their viewership (including those Channel Memberships and below-player merch shelves).
“Ninety-nine percent of all creators affected by that were making less than $100 per year,” Kyncl says, referring to February’s ‘demonetization day.’ He adds that YouTube chose those thresholds to demonetize due to complaints from YouTubers that smaller channels, primarily run by content farms, were reuploading creators' original videos and “effectively stealing their revenue.

YouTube star Joe Sugg, who is also a noted graphic novelist and talent management company proprietor, has reportedly signed on to the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing -- a U.K. reality competition series in the vein of ABC's Dancing With The Stars.
In the hit BBC One show, celebrities are partnered with professional ballroom dancers, and compete via themed performances week to week, which are scored by a panel of expert judges. Metro speculates that the series could stand to gain some serious social starpower if Sugg does indeed opt to compete, given that several of his YouTube-famous friends and family members would presumably attend live tapings, including sister Zoe Sugg and best friend-slash-business partner Caspar Lee.

Two of the U.K.’s biggest YouTube stars, Caspar Lee and Joe Sugg, have ceased ties with noted digital talent management firm Gleam Futures, the former roommates and frequent collaborators tell Tubefilter. In coming weeks, Lee and Sugg will announce a new business venture -- though they declined to provide any details.
“We’ve enjoyed our three years working with Gleam and we’re very thankful for their support and we wish them all the best,” the duo said in a statement provided exclusively to Tubefilter. They noted that their contracts at the London-based company have expired and they are opting not to renew. “With the creator platform constantly evolving, we have decided to fully immerse ourselves in a new business venture, which will be announced in the coming weeks. We're excited to share the next chapter in our careers.”

American vlogging star Tyler Oakley has joined the lineup of HelloWorld -- a two-day gathering for YouTube fans that will take place in Birmingham, England in October. Comprising performances, skits, and engagements, HelloWorld is being headlined by some of the U.K.’s biggest digital stars, including Caspar Lee, Joe Sugg, Louise Pentland, Ksi, and Zoella.
According to its website, HelloWorld will see a fictional town constructed in the middle of Birmingham's Genting Arena, with a performance stage at the end of the 'Main Street'. The four-hour day won't function as a traditional meet-and-greet, but will instead consist of two separate show portions. A ‘Daytime Experience’ will comprise street shows, classes, carnival rides, live music, and challenges -- all of which attendees can experience alongside top creators. The ‘Nighttime Show’ will allow seated ticket holders to attend a concert-like spectacle.

YouTube creator Caspar Lee, who counts 9 million subscribers between his two channels, is set to serve as the digital host of this year’s Brit Awards. At the same time, YouTube, which has served as the Brits’ global livestreaming partner for the past three years, will once again host a live stream of the storied music awards show.
Lee, 22, will cover all the red carpet and backstage action, with celebrity interviews and additional content created exclusively for the Brits’ various social channels. This year, Brits performers are slated to include Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and more. Lee will have big shoes to fill, as last year’s digital hosting duties fell to fellow London-based creators Dan Howell and Phil Lester.

The YouTube community as a whole is known for conveying an honesty and immediacy that viewers won't necessarily find on other platforms, and few creators embody those qualities as well as Marissa Rachel. Rachel, a vlogger from California, makes videos that help young women the topics that are most relevant to their lives. Alongside her sister Shanna, she dishes out boy advice, talks about periods, completes challenges, and shares other videos through which her voice can shine. Now, she's over one million subscribers, so we talked to her about her digital strategy.
Tubefilter: How does it feel to have one million subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?
Marissa Rachel: Chester, my Panda, wants to go on a world tour and give each and every one of you a hug!
Tf: Your channel has grown tremendously in the past year. Why do you think viewers have latched on to your videos?...

Exclusive: Caspar Lee hired by UK producers as part of a marketing drive to entice younger audiences.

The 15-minute video will feature Lee interviewing, and playing Christmas games with, the cast of the movie.
According to producers, the idea for the video came about following test screenings for 15-20 year olds who largely expressed approval for the film but admitted that they find it increasingly difficult to pull themselves away from online platforms and into cinemas.
British-born South African vlogger Lee has 6.9 million Youtube subscribers and 4.2m followers on Twitter.
Directed by former Screen Star of Tomorrow Charles Henri Belleville, the Edinburgh premiere stars Robert Sheehan (Mortal Instruments), Sofia Boutella (The Mummy) and Osy Ikhile (Heart of the Sea).

Caroling is an integral part of the Christmas season, but it is also a bit old and stodgy, and many young people have no interested in that particular time-honored tradition. Who better, then, to re-imagine the Christmas carol than one of the hippest creators on the Internet? YouTube star Caspar Lee teamed up with retailer Tk Maxx (the UK equivalent to Tj Maxx) for a new rendition of “Deck The Halls” that has some youthful energy to it.
Lee, along with a group of choir members, performed his version of “Deck The Halls” at London’s King’s Cross station. Musically, the reworked classic features an Edm influence and a beat-boxed backing track. Its lyrics, which Lee wrote under the tutelage of Welsh carol legend Aled Jones, reference tweeting, holiday sweaters, and snowballs -- all the things the kiddies enjoy during this time of the year.

For the second year in a row, a large number of YouTube stars are coming together to Stand Up To Cancer. The charitable program has once again turned to Princess Productions, a subsidiary of Endemol Shine Group, to produce a fundraising live stream in support of its yearly drive.
Last year, Princess' Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) stream featured more than a dozen YouTube stars and rallied millions of fans behind a common cause. This year's effort is expected to be even bigger, with at least 30 stars, including Zoella and Caspar Lee, joining the initiative. By authoring memoirs, novels, and how-to guides that their fans see as must-own items, YouTube stars have played a major role in the resurgent popularity of physical books. Now, the BBC is betting that the same magic will work on DVDs, too. The British broadcaster has enlisted YouTube stars Joe Sugg, Caspar Lee, Pixiwoo, Louise Pentland, and Joe Wicks for a quartet of direct-to-dvd projects that are expected to arrive in time for the holidays.
According to the UK’s Telegraph, the YouTuber-led project will make up 40% of the BBC’s new commissions in the fourth quarter of 2016. The broadcaster is already galvanized by the success of Joe and Caspar Hit The Road, a 2015 tour documentary starring Sugg and Lee. That film reportedly sold more than 120,000 copies.

A week after its release date was first announced, Laid in America’s trailer has now been revealed. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has offered a preview of the film, which is led by YouTube stars Caspar Lee and KSIOlajidebt, on its YouTube channel.
When I discussed Laid in America last week, I noted the similarities between its plot and that of American Pie, the 1999 teen film that has endured as a coming-of-age classic. The trailer backs up that hypothesis. It offers up the same sorts of raunchy sex jokes, suggestive situations, and zippy rock soundtrack that have been used in teen comedy trailers for decades (and, we can only assume, will continue to be used for decades more). This particular preview gets some bonus points for employing Honest Trailers epic voice Jon Bailey, who turns in some particularly light-hearted narration.
