Following the success of Talk To Me, directors Danny & Michael Philippou will team up with A24 again on Bring Her Back, starring Sally Hawkins.
A24 hit gold with Talk To Me, Danny & Michael Philippou’s ridiculously popular horror film featuring a creepy hand and a bunch of teenagers playing with it. It doesn’t come as a surprise that the powerhouse studio wants to team up with the brothers again for what they’re hoping will be another horror sensation.
Deadline reports that Danny & Michael Philippou are now working on a film called Bring Her Back and Sally Hawkins will play the lead. Production is due to start this summer.
No plot details as of yet, but that’s to be expected. A24 will want to keep those close to the chest until the film is nearing completion. There’s no release date either.

We know for sure that Danny and Michael Philippou, the sibling directing duo behind the Australian horror film Talk to Me (read our review at This Link, watch our interview with the directors in the embed above) are going to be making a sequel to that movie. The film not only racked up over $90 million at the global box office, it also earned praise from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Jordan Peele, George Miller, and Ari Aster… so it was no surprise when A24 announced they had given a greenlight to the a follow-up, titled Talk 2 Me. But while the sequel moves ahead, one person who still doesn’t know if they’re going to be involved with it is Talk to Me star Sophie Wilde.

Adelaide teens take an occult party game too far in this terrific debut from Australian YouTube celebrities (and twin brothers) Danny and Michael Philippou. Inventive, creepy and confidently directed, it’s one of the best horror films of the year.
After a deeply disturbing prologue, shot in an impressive single take, the film centres on Mia (Sophie Wilde), who’s grown more and more distant from her father (Marcus Johnson) since the traumatic loss of her mother, two years previously. Accordingly, Mia spends most of her time at her best friend Jade’s (Alexandra Jensen) house, which is slightly awkward, because Jade is dating Mia’s ex-boyfriend, Daniel (Otis Dhanji).

A24 is going all in on a new horror franchise as the studio is officially developing a sequel to this summer's sleeper hit "Talk to Me." Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the film hit theaters less than two weeks ago against rave reviews from the festival circuit earlier this year. Audiences responded kindly and the studio wasted zero time in giving the sequel the go-ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the follow-up is aptly titled "Talk 2 Me." Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman are set to pen the screenplay, while the Philippou brothers will once again return to the director's chair. Plot details remain under wraps at this time. The first movie focuses on a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand. They become hooked on the new thrill of it all until one of them goes too far and unleashes malicious supernatural forces.

A24 has given the go-ahead to a sequel to “Talk to Me,” the supernatural thriller that has become a surprise hit at the summer box office (amassing more than $22 million domestically). Filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who got their start with a series of zany YouTube videos, will return to direct the new film, titled “Talk 2 Me.” Danny Philippou is writing the screenplay with Bill Hinzman.
When TheWrap spoke to the Philippou brothers, they said they were deciding between paths that they would want to take for the sequel – either following some of the characters from the original film or veering off in an entirely new direction. They also said they had created a lengthy “mythology bible” exploring the lore of the film – including where the haunted hand, which teenagers in the first film use to open a doorway to a spirit world, actually came from.

There have been quite a few horror movies of late that center around influencers and YouTubers, and, with some exceptions, they mostly suck. Maybe it’s because the protagonist is always yelling in that trademark “YouTube” voice. Maybe it’s that the found footage oeuvre could use a serious overhaul. Or maybe it comes down to the filmmakers not really understanding YouTubers. So what happens when those creators take a crack at the genre? If you’re Danny and Michael Philippou, you make the scariest movie of the year.

With their incredibly atmospheric and compelling debut feature Talk to Me, a fairly gory supernatural title out of Australia, twin brother filmmakers Danny & Michael Philippou have set themselves up as the next great A24 success story.
Directed by the duo from Danny’s script written with Bill Hinzman, Talk to Me tells the story of Mia (Sophie Wilde), a teenager grappling with the loss of her mother who gets in over the head, to say the least, when she and her friends begin playing a malevolent party game as a kind of way of getting high. As they sit around a table and whip out their smartphones to record, Mia grips a mysterious ceramic hand, says some magic words and finds her body taken over by an unknown spirit. There was initially interest in making the film at a major U.S. studio. But when the brothers sensed that their vision would be compromised,...

A4’s supernatural horror Talk To Me opens the debut film by Australian brothers and popular YouTubers Danny and Michael Philippou on 2,300 screens. Strong reviews (see Deadline’s here), A24 large built-in fan base and its elevated horror cred saw a Thursday gross of $1.25 million, looking to top a $4-5M weekend.
The Sundance-premiering pic follows a group of friends who discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand and become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces. Michael Philippou gleefully freaked out a Comic-Con event last week with a stunt that saw him possessed by an embalmed hand before meeting what appeared to be a bloody end. Stars Sophie Wilde, Joe Bird, Alexandra Jensen, Otis Dhanji and Joe Bird. Written by Bill Hinzman and Danny Philippou.

2023 has certainly given all those aspiring filmmakers on YouTube a good reason to keep chasing their dreams. First, there was the underground success of "Skinarmarink," an avant-garde horror film that was conceived by writer and director Kyle Edward Ball back when he was operating his YouTube channel, Bitesized Nightmares. Now, Danny and Michael Philippou, the Australian brothers who have amassed millions of subscribers thanks to their horror-comedy shorts on their YouTube channel, RackaRacka, are riding a wave of critical accolades thanks to their feature directing debut, "Talk to Me."
The film, which was written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, centers on a group of Australian teenagers who decide to mess with a supernatural artifact in the shape of a dead medium's embalmed hand and forearm, only to learn the hard way what happens when you recklessly meddle with these sorts of things. Editors note: This review was originally published January 22 after the the movie’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It opens in theaters Friday.
Children shouldn’t play with dead things: not just the title of a low-budget American horror from 1972 but words to live by, especially in this unnerving and highly effective Midnight entry from Australia. But though it employs some familiar tropes — high-schoolers dabble in the occult and soon begin to wish they hadn’t — Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou’s film Talk to Me does attempt to do something new with an old idea, for one thing making the crossing of infernal thresholds seem like an awful lot of fun.
From the start, the most striking thing is that there’s not much in the way of a preamble and very little lip service to genre traditions. The Philippous are respectful enough of modern audiences to...

The new A24 horror movie, "Talk to Me," might just be the scariest film of the year so far. The new movie, directed by Danny and Michael Philippou from a script by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, follows a group of Australian teenagers who discover they can speak to spirits by using an embalmed hand. Mia (Sophie Wilde), whose mom recently died, is obsessed with doing it, while her best friend, Jade (Alexandra Jensen), is much more apprehensive. When they use the hand to hold a séance at Jade's house, her little brother, Riley (Joe Bird), gets involved, with disastrous, gory consequences.
Through the end of the movie, Mia tries desperately to save Riley as the spirits start to slip into her everyday life. It all leads to a thrilling,...

Director duo/brothers Danny and Michael Philippou’s debut feature is a well-produced Australian, A24 possession horror with interesting, likeable characters, excellent performances and well woven scares. Sadly Talk to Me stumbles in the latter half due to drawn-out, superfluous scenes and wonky plotting.
On the anniversary of her mother’s death, twenty-something Mia (Sophie Wilde) attends a party with her friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen) and plays a game that involves grasping the embalmed hand of a dead psychic and asking it to talk to her. After conversing with a spirit conjured by the hand, the event leads to an accident involving Jade’s younger brother, Riley (Joe Bird). Mia then sets off to seek out the secrets of the severed limb so she can save Riley and reconnect with the spirit of her late mother.

As the Summer is reaching its final weeks are you looking for a super cool fun activity that will take your big late-night party to another level? Sure, “Spin the Bottle” and “Five Minutes in Heaven” are a bit of naughty fun, but where’s the danger? There’s certainly none in the classic board games (moving an icon from one square to the next) or the variations of pantomime. Aha, there’s the creepy ole’ Ouija board, but that’s too old-fashioned. Perhaps that’s why the kids in this flick from “down under” have come up with something that’s more of a direct “channel” to the “other side”. Plus it’s got a limited length, so it makes for an ideal online video. Now once the needed props are set up, the participants only need to recall a couple of commands, beginning with “Talk To Me”. Then watch out!

On the press tour for Talk to Me, Danny Philippou’s car accident as a teenager has risen to a level so apocryphal that he assumes I’m already aware of the incident. At 16, he suffered an episode of irrepressible shakiness while hospitalized for his injuries, and it took the touch of his sister’s hand to bring him out of shock and back to reality.
That experience is just one of many that feed directly into Talk to Me, the film he directed with his twin brother, Michael. Like many a great directorial debut, the work feels like a release of everything the 30-year-old filmmakers have been waiting to share with the world. In their freshman feature, suburban Australian teenagers in search of freedom and fun turn to the new frontier spiritual possession through a ritual involving an embalmed hand.

Loss and grief bring a lot of changes to one's life, more than it may initially appear. It's a personal, grim reminder of the final destination that awaits us all, a full-on wake-up call that it can and will happen to you. As much as a death by natural causes hangs over every human being, the specter of unnatural death looms even larger; not just for reasons of unfairness, but because it implies an additional amount of pain and suffering coming along with it.
Thus, it's a natural impulse for most people (and especially young people) to not so much confront their fears but to dismiss, belittle and mock them, in the hopes that they'll be sufficiently diminished. In YouTube stars Danny and Michael Philippou's debut feature, "Talk to Me," the world of the dead is treated as something to be laughed at,...

Oh, the lengths you would go when you’re young, curious and perpetually hungry for a unique high you haven’t felt before. Just ask the teenagers at the heart of Australian twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou’s plucky debut feature, “Talk to Me,” an accomplished horror film with scares and ideas, however meandering and adrift.
Alcohol, smoking, drugs and what have you are so last season, so pre-social media and TikTok, according to this bunch. In their world, everyone who’s anyone is doing this new thing across viral videos that might or might not be fake: holding an ancient embalmed hand, saying the three magic words that lend the film its title and allowing a dead spirit to possess them. Just make sure the whole process lasts no longer than 90 seconds or you might get stuck with the unfriendly ghost for eternity.

Supernatural shocker Talk to Me marks the feature debut of twin filmmaking duo Danny and Michael Philippou, the creative minds behind the controversial YouTube channel RackaRacka, a showcase for intense action horror comedy videos with a substantial subscriber base. The channel’s penchant for graphic violence and extreme pranks stirred up controversy in the past, including a run-in with authorities, which also extends to their debut. Talk to Me delivers an intense, nightmarish horror movie that’ll leave you breathless.
The title refers to the latest viral party craze, which sees teens gather around a volunteer who grabs a mysterious embalmed hand while uttering the phrase “talk to me.” It’s a short séance ritual that opens a direct line of communication to the dead, but those that play must abide by strict rules to maintain the boundary between the living and the dead.

Chicago – True unforgettable scares in a horror film are few and far between, despite many attempts. The unsettling air of the new film “Talk to Me” is lingering, as created by two Australian brothers and YouTube sensations, Danny & Michael Philippou. Their channel RackaRacka gave them the opportunity to make their debut film.
Australian teens Mia (Sophie Wilde), brother/sister Riley (Joe Bird) and Jade (Alexandra Jensen) gather with other friends to participate in a bizarre “lights out” ritual. A plastered mummy hand is grasped by an individual as they intone “talk to me,” and when a spirit appears they entreat them to enter their bodies. Remarkably, it works differently for Mia, Jade and especially Riley, with unintended consequences. When the effects prove not to wear off, trouble from the inhabitants of the afterlife soon follow. The film was co-directed by Danny (also co-writer) and Michael Philippou in their feature film debut.

RackaRacka‘s debut feature film is now the No. 1 top-rated horror movie of 2023 on Rotten Tomatoes.
For Og YouTube viewers, “RackaRacka” should ring a bell, but for those who aren’t familiar, it’s a longtime prank channel run by Australian twins Danny and Michael Philippou. Their boisterous, high-production, VFX-filled, and sometimes YouTube Tos-violating (and/or lawbreaking) videos have brought the brothers nearly 7 million subscribers.
Earlier this year, the Philippous announced they’d signed a distribution deal with A24 for their first feature-length film, Talk to Me. The movie follows a group of young friends lured in by something they saw on social media: a ritual to summon spirits. Of course no one takes it too seriously–but then the good ol’ horror movie twist comes in when main character Mia (Sophie Wilde) begins hearing from her dead mother.
Danny co-wrote the script with Bill Hinzman based on a concept from Daley Pearson.

Adelaide teens take an occult party game too far in this terrific debut from Australian YouTube celebrities (and twin brothers) Danny and Michael Philippou. Inventive, creepy and confidently directed, it’s one of the best horror films of the year.

“Talk to Me” is the latest A24 horror movie, and a brand new trailer has arrived.
It will soon join a collection of blood-curdling modern-day classics like “Midsommar,” “The Witch” and “X.” And judging by the trailer (which you can watch above), it will fit in nicely. Or maybe it’ll fit in horribly? You know what we mean.
The movie follows a young girl (Sophie Wilde), who recently lost her mother, and is coaxed into playing a game with an embalmed hand that supposedly opens up a door to the other side. Of course, things quickly escalate out of control, unleashing a demonic force (demonic forces are never as amenable as you’d think). Is this the Australian version of Ouija? Or something else entirely? They’re a hearty bunch, we can see them looking for an even greater thrill, like shaking hands with the devil. Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen,...

Ahead of the summer launch of their breakout supernatural horror-thriller Talk to Me, which set the industry abuzz after world premiering at Sundance, Australian twin brother filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou have entered final negotiations to direct Legendary’s live-action Street Fighter pic based on the classic Capcom video games, sources confirm to Deadline.
The studio declined to comment. But the news follows its exclusive license of live-action film and TV rights to Street Fighter announced earlier this month. Since Street Fighter‘s launch in 1987, more than 49 million units have been sold worldwide, making it one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. The next chapter, Street FighterTM 6, is slated for release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, and PC via Steam on June 2nd.
