The rings are once more forged in fire for “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2.
The hit Prime Video series, which made history on the streaming platform upon its debut, is welcoming a familiar face back to the Middle-Earth for its second installment. Charlie Vickers is back as the villainous Sauron, but this time, he’s in a new form to deceive those who try to unite the Second Age realm.
After being cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-Earth to his sinister will, the official synopsis teased.

History stands as a testament that reboots, spin-offs, or adaptations fail the moment makers decide to give their own twist to the mythos. From The Witcher to Eragon, there have been several series and movies that ended up being ridiculed and sneered by fans and critics. And Amazon’s Rings of Power too can be found among such projects.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Based on the famous J. R. R. Tolkien books, the series provided its own spin on the tale by being set thousands of years before the events in the books. Needless to say, the series was not as well received. And even Lord of the Rings star, the late Bernard Hill had some deeply insulting words to say about the series.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is rounding out its Season 2 cast with seven actors added in recurring roles. Sam Hazeldine takes on the role of Orc leader Adar in a recasting in the Prime Video series. He replaces Joseph Mawle, who portrayed the character in Season 1. The recasting decision was made months ago, and Mawle did not participate in any of the worldwide promotional events for the series.
Additional new cast members are Gabriel Akuwudike (Hanna), Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour (The Witcher), Ben Daniels (Jupiter’s Legacy), newcomer Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle (Persuasion), and Nicholas Woodeson (Silent Witness). Character details are being kept under wraps.
Developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord of the Rings series is described as an “epic drama” set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and the novels by Tolkien.

Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen Atour, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Ben Daniels, Nicholas Woodeson, and Sam Hazeldine have been cast in the series, which serves as a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy series. Hazeldine replaces Joseph Mawle, who played the Ork leader Adar in the first season of the series; a reason for the casting change was not given. The other new cast members’ roles are currently being kept under wraps, but all of them join the show in a recurring capacity.

"Tonight was the beginning of my serial killer career." Cinedigm has debuted the main official trailer for a British horror mockumentary called When the Screaming Starts directed by Conor Boru. This recently premiered at the FrightFest Horror Festival in London last month, and will be out to watch later this month. Aidan Mendle has a dream; he aspires to be an infamous serial killer. When struggling journalist, Norman, is invited to follow Aidan on his journey, he believes he might've finally landed his big break. "A wannabe serial killer, a warped filmmaker, and a murderous cult on a blood-soaked rampage." It's being marketed as a hilarious horror comedy that "does for serial killers what What We Do in the Shadows did for vampires." The ensemble cast features Ed Hartland, Jared Rogers, Kaitlin Reynell, Octavia Gilmore, Kavé Niku, Ronja Haugholt, Vår Haugholt & Yasen Atour. This seems to lack the ingenuity and...

Stars: Jared Rogers, Ed Hartland, Kaitlyn Reynell, Octavia Gilmore, Yasen Atour | Written by Conor Boru, Ed Hartland | Directed by Conor Boru
Written by Ed Hartland (who also stars) and Conor Boru, who also directs his first feature film here, When The Screaming Starts is a comedy-horror in which Norman Graysmith (Jared Rogers), perhaps an homage to Louis Theroux, a documentary film-maker who has made a career documenting the lives of people living on the fringes of society, is invited into the home of an aspiring serial killer, Aiden. Norman thinks this is going to be the documentary that catapults his career into orbit.
The movie doesn’t dilly-dally before revealing it’s tongue-in-cheek satyr and dry British sarcasm, with the introduction of Aiden Mendle (Hartland), the aspiring killer in question. One moment Aiden is friendly and matter-of-fact with his desire to be a successful serial killer, and then he’s staring bullet creepily in doorways.

News of “The Witcher” Season 2 premiere date was revealed out of WitcherCon today. During the online event, Netflix also dropped “The Witcher” Season 2 teaser (which you can view here) and revealed the release date and first footage for “The Witcher” anime film “Nightmare of the Wolf” (which you can find here).

Netflix revealed the first page of the script for the Season 2 premiere of “The Witcher” Tuesday. And yes, there is actually something happening on that page that fans will care about.
Henry Cavill’s monster hunter Geralt of Rivia has the first line of the season, which is said in a voiceover at night in a small mountain town: “You dogged my every footstep. But struck down others I passed on my way. Why?”
A merchant man and his wife and daughter are seeking lodging in this town, which is apparently abandoned and for good reason: The wife immediately goes missing from their cart, leaving the daughter covered in blood. Soon, the merchant is dragged off by the unknown creature attacking them as well.
“I was meant to end up alone, wasn’t I?” So I would finally begin to be afraid?” Geralt’s voiceover continues.

“The Witcher” was forced to immediately pause production on Season 2 of the Netflix series after four people tested positive on Saturday for the coronavirus, a source with knowledge told TheWrap.
The four staffers were not part of the cast and have been isolated. Netflix will implement a round of testing of everyone involved in the series.
Filming on Season 2, which is taking place at London’s Arborfield Studios, will resume when it is deemed safe to do so.

Netflix on Saturday dropped a montage of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia fighting horrifying creatures in “The Witcher,” mostly in Season 1 but with a quick look at some big bads coming in the show’s upcoming second season.
In the video, which you can view above, “Monster Mash” plays — because it’s Halloween, naturally — while Geralt’s greatest monster-fighting hits roll. Around the 0:15 mark you’ll get your first glimpse of a multi-legged creature that we don’t want to get anywhere near. And at the 0:30 stamp you’ll see some kind of being made up of three skeletons — yikes.
“The Witcher” Season 2 resumed production in the U.K. in August, after shutting down in March due to the pandemic. No premiere date has been set for the second season yet, though when it was ordered last November — one month ahead of “The Witcher’s” series launch...

Netflix released its third and final pair of first-look character images for “The Witcher” Season 2 on Wednesday, these two focusing on Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer of Vengerberg. The Witcher Season 2 has cast Basil Eidenbenz for the role of Eskel, replacing the previously tapped Thue Ersted Rasmussen.
Swiss actor Eidenbenz will fill the role of Eskel, which was vacated by Rasmussen over rescheduling issues attributed to Covid-19, reports Deadline. Pertinently, Netflix’s The Witcher was among an entire industry-wide slate of productions that halted back in March as Covid escalated to a pandemic level; an occurrence that leaves the series with a lingering issue upon its recent return, since Rasmussen had been filming scenes as Eskel starting in late February before the early-March shutdown. Consequently, the recasting of the character with Eidenbenz calls for reshoots.
The role of Eskel will likely prove important for The Witcher Season 2, since the character is a fellow Witcher peer of Geralt, and also happens to be a childhood friend with whom he came up through the physiology-altering Trial of the Grasses to...

“The Witcher” has recast the upcoming role of Eskel with actor Basil Eidenbenz, Variety has confirmed.
In February, Netflix originally announced that actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen would be taking on the role of the fellow Witcher in the Henry Cavill-starring series. However, Rasmussen had to drop out of “The Witcher” due to rescheduling conflicts caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Eidenbenz, a Swiss actor, has previously appeared in the British historical drama “Victoria,” “The Athena” and had a role in “The Favourite” starring Olivia Colman and Emma Stone. He will play Eskel, the longtime friend and colleague of main character Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) portrayed in the “Witcher” novels and popular video game.

They say you know you’re getting old when policemen start getting younger. By shaving decades off grizzled veteran Inspector Wallander, Netflix’s latest will age us all. This six-part crime drama transforms Sweden’s most famous detective into a fresh-faced junior officer. Confusingly for fans of Henning Mankell’s hit crime novels and the previous screen adaptations, Young Wallander is young now. This isn’t a period prequel delving back into the character’s past, but a reimagining taking him back to day one, in the present.
Present-day Malmo isn’t a safe place to be. At least, not for the residents of the Rosengard estate, a place ruled over by drug dealers and gang violence. When we meet Wallander (Adam Pålsson), he’s living a solitary life there in a small apartment and keeping his job quiet from the locals who don’t exactly hold the police in esteem.

When Game of Thrones wrapped up, the streaming networks immediately began commissioning shows to fill the swords, dragons n’ boobs-shaped hole in the viewing schedule. First out of the gate was Netflix’s The Witcher, which adapts Polish author Andrezj Sapkowski’s series of novels with heavy inspiration from CD Projekt Red’s bestselling series of video games. The first season was a big hit and Netflix quickly commissioned a second run with more to come.
That began shooting earlier this year, only to be put on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The show actually had a case on set, resulting in the entire cast and crew going into isolation. Fortunately, there were no further cases, though it meant that they had to stop right in the middle of a major action sequence. The shoot is expected to resume sometime over the summer, but there will inevitably be some delay to the release.

A version of this story about Lauren Schmidt Hissrich first appeared in the “Race Begins” issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine. It is one in a series of conversations about the effects of the coronavirus on the TV industry.
Netflix’s Henry Cavill-led adaptation of “The Witcher” was watched by 76 million households in its first month after launching last December, according to the streamer, marking the platform’s biggest series debut to date. Netflix paused production on the second season of “The Witcher,” which is currently filming in the U.K., for two weeks on Sunday due to growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, an individual with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.
The Henry Cavill-led fantasy series, which began production on Season 2 last month and is set to launch its new episodes in 2021, is the latest TV show to suspend or delay production due to fears about Covid-19. You can see TheWrap’s full roundup of programs here.
On Friday, Netflix put a two-week hiatus on all of its film and TV production in North America in response to government restrictions and health and safety precautions. Obviously, “The Witcher” was not part of that particular grouping, given that it is shooting in the U.K.

The Witcher season 2 spell has been woven over at Netflix, with the proverbial coin of renewal having been tossed to the series by the streaming Valley of Plenty over a month before the premiere of season 1.
The second season of Netflix’s The Witcher was officially confirmed back in November, and with an 8-episode order, which matches the number of episodes for the hit inaugural season. Production on Season 2 will commence in London in early 2020, with a premiere set for fall 2021.
Indeed, Netflix’s gamble seems to have paid off, with The Witcher going on to become one of its biggest performers, due to a touted record-breaking 76 million household presence – notwithstanding ambiguity over the parameters for those metrics.
Indicative of Netflix’s retention of The Witcher‘s key creative personnel, Season 1 showrunner (and the show’s credited creator) Lauren S. Hissrich enthusiastically announced the Season 2 renewal, bestowing praise on the...

Production officially began this month in the U.K. on Season 2 of Netflix’s “The Witcher,” the streaming service announced today. The series was renewed for an eight-episode second season — planned to be released in 2021 — a month before its December 2019 release.
Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books (which were also adapted into a popular video game series), “The Witcher” tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, the eponymous witcher, who travels from town to town accepting missions in exchange for “coin.” The first season of Netflix’s “The Witcher” proved to be a success for the streaming platform, as it was reportedly viewed by 76 million households within the first four weeks of its release. That makes for a lot of individuals getting “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” stuck in their head.

While the wait is far, far from over, fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Witcher season 2 recently received some spectacular news.
Making the announcement earlier this week with an adorable image featuring himself and the noble steed that ‘plays’ Geralt’s horse Roach in the hit show, Henry Cavill confirmed that filming on season 2 is officially underway. Production is to take place primarily in the UK (we’ve already seen some of the potential locations that Geralt and co. will be visiting) and, it’s emerged, will feature an expanded cast.
As reported by Deadline, in fact, seven new cast members have already been confirmed for the series’ return next year, many of which TV junkies will immediately recognize. Best known for his performance as Tormund Giantsbane in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Kristofer Hivju will play Nivellen, while Peaky Blinders‘ Paul Bullion will take on the role of Lambert.

Production on fantasy epic “The Witcher” Season 2 has commenced in the U.K., with a planned launch in 2021, Netflix announced.
The show also announced seven new cast members joining “The Witcher” for S2, including Kristofer Hivju, the Norwegian actor who played the red-bearded wilding leader Tormund Giantsbane on “Game of Thrones.”
Netflix last month claimed “The Witcher” Season 1 was tracking to be its biggest original TV series debut to date. However, that’s according to a new metric invented by the company that found 76 million member households watched at least 2 minutes of the show in the first four weeks after its Dec. 20 release.
The streamer renewed “The Witcher” for Season 2 last fall with an eight-episode order, more than a month before the freshman season hit the streaming service. The show represents “a massive new franchise that we’ll develop season after season,” Netflix chairman/CEO Reed Hastings said on the...
