Zackary Drucker will direct the upcoming biopic about Andy Warhol superstar Candy Darling starring Hari Nef. John Cameron Mitchell also joins the untitled film about the transgender icon as executive producer.
It was previously announced that Nef (“Barbie”) will star in the movie.
The film traces Darling’s childhood in Long Island through her years alongside underground icons Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis in Warhol’s Factory scene, and her influence on musicians including Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground and Patti Smith. She was immortalized in popular songs including Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” and The Velvet Underground’s “Candy Says.”
Darling also starred in Warhol’s cult film “Women In Revolt” before she died of leukemia in 1974 at age 29.
“I’ve dedicated my life and career to amplifying the history of trans and queer icons, and their impact in shaping art and culture for everyone,” Drucker said in a statement.

Dorit Kemsley has made no secret of the fact that she has been going through it on recent seasons of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” after a 2021 home invasion in which armed men threatened her and her two children. On Season 13 of the series, which began on Oct. 25, she’s shown on camera that she’s been struggling in her marriage to Paul “P.K.” Kemsley as a result of his lack of empathy for her, and his seeming refusal to understand her Ptsd. Shortly after the show premiered, In Touch reported that they had split — and the Bravo gossip machine went into overdrive.
At BravoCon on Nov. 4, Kemsley spoke with Variety about where things stand. “You go through marriage 13 years together, you’re going to have some ups and downs — but we’re working through it. And luckily we are still together, depite rumors and hearsay that suggest otherwise,...

The foundations of He Went That Way would appear to promise a movie with curiosity, tension, volatility and perhaps even the kind of improbable bonding that can grow out of Stockholm syndrome. Putting a celebrity animal trainer, a serial killer and a chimp together in a station wagon headed across Route 66 in the turbulent mid-’60s at the very least suggests something with edge and compelling strangeness. Which makes it disappointing to report that despite the best efforts of co-stars Jacob Elordi and Zachary Quinto, this ineffectual true-crime road trip is entirely lacking in danger.
The film was made by Jeffrey Darling, a respected Australian industry veteran acclaimed for his work as a cinematographer, a music video director (for Crowded House) and, most notably, as a maker of award-winning international commercials for some of the world’s biggest brands.
