Jake Paul’s contentious claim last month that he built YouTube’s first content house with Team 10 brought one of the space's forebearers into the spotlight -- the now-disbanded supergroup known as Our2ndLife (O2L).
O2L -- which comprises Connor Franta, Ricky Dillon, Sam Pottorff, Jc Caylen, Trevi Moran, and Kian Lawley -- is widely considered one of YouTube’s first big creator collectives, having spawned, at the height of their fame, a live tour and accompanying documentary. And though the group disbanded in 2014 to pursue solo careers, they reunited yesterday -- though on Twitch, not YouTube -- to play the popular multiplayer social deduction game Among Us. “Let’s go back to 2014 for a day,” read various teasers that the group posted on social media ahead of the event.

Today marks the start of a new chapter for YouTuber Ricky Dillon. From this point on, Ricky Dillon says he's being honest with himself about his sexuality after struggling for years to come to terms with who he is. In a new YouTube video, the entertainer reveals he's accepted he's "1000 percent gay", something that he's "terrified" to admit, namely because of the religious household he was raised in. "It was drilled into my brain from an early age that being gay is one of the worst things that could happen." Ricky explains, "I am so terrified [my family's] not going to accept me for being gay, because I know their beliefs." Not to say, Ricky...

If YouTube popularity is fickle, Ricky Dillon -- an early star who rose to fame as part of the YouTube collab channel Our2ndLife -- has found an inventive way to keep a viable career on the platform.
Following financial and tax struggles last summer amid the realization that being a full-time YouTuber was just too risky and stressful, Dillon set his sights on becoming a freelance editor for other top creators -- as he lays out in a new Q&a video titled Why I Left YouTube. In that clip, which is the first video that Dillon has posted to his channel (3.2 million subscribers) since November, he says that he began reaching out to creators last summer to see if they needed any editing assistance.

Netflix is putting to rest fears that Friends would leave the streaming service on Jan. 1. Netflix just confirmed via tweet that the hit Warner Bros. TV-produced comedy series will remain through 2019.
There have been questions about Friends’ future on the streaming service since WarnerMedia announced plans to launch a competing subscription service next year.

Btig analyst Rich Greenfield suggested back in October that Friends could leave Netflix as WarnerMedia claws back its content to launch a competing subscription service. The loss of the perennially popular sitcom would represent a blow.

It's basically a meme at this point, but it's true: With great influence comes great responsibility. Creators with dedicated and engaged audiences command millions of eyes on their content. And for the health and well being of the planet and those living on it, we're lucky many of them use their voices and platforms for good, working with nonprofits to align themselves and their brand with social causes. When it’s done well - and sensitively - the impact can be transformative.

The Ad Council, a nonprofit organization that creates public service ads to champion a variety of social causes, drastically built on its work with internet creators this year. In 2017, the organization said it worked with a total of 25 influencers with a collective reach of 34 million fans, whose campaigns clocked a total of 10 million views across YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
The Ad Council, which also partners with traditional stars, pacts with their digital counterparts through its Creators For Good initiative, which it launched in 2015. The Council feted these accomplishments earlier this month at its 64th annual Public Service Award Dinner, which was hosted by late-night star Samantha Bee and attended by blind vlogger and motivational speaker Molly Burke, dancer Jojo Siwa, vlogger Ricky Dillon, and the Slyfox Family.

The latest web series released under the Smosh banner invites its guests to dive deep into their social media archives. You Posted That, which is produced by Smosh owner Defy Media and hosted by the brand's co-founder Ian Hecox, is a game show that features prominent social media stars as its contestants.
Each episode of You Posted That features three guests, who must analyze their past posts, evaluate the humor of them, and attempt to remember how they were phrased. In the final round of each show, the contestants must read a caption from one of Hecox's Instagram posts and divine which picture it matches up to. The reward is minimal, the tone is light, and the featured influencers don't take their competition too seriously. “It’s sort of a game of embarrassing them, but I also make a point of taking shots at myself,” Hecox told Variety.

Since its launch during last year’s VidCon, Time Inc.’s Instant brand has provided a platform through which the major media company can engage with the global community of online video stars in a mobile-friendly way. The latest manner in which Instant is accomplishing that goal is Irl, a new Live.ly series that looks to bring the spirit of MTV’s classic program Total Request Live (Trl) to the world of social video.
Irl is a 45-minute program that will run each Thursday on Instant’s officially Live.ly channel. Live.ly, a mobile streaming platform launched last year, is related to the wildly popular Musical.ly app, which has spawned its own cadre of youthful, charismatic stars. Those creators, as well others who are making hay of Musical.ly and its mobile-live brethren, will be highlighted in Irl episodes, just as Trl highlighted Top 40 tastemakers across more than 2,200 episodes.

The Advertising Council (aka Ad Council) is a non-profit organization started way back in 1941 that's known for its socially-conscious public service announcements. Back in April 2015, the org that's been behind such iconic, altruistic, and informative figures and campaigns as Smokey Bear, McGruff the Crime Dog, Nancy's Reagan's "Just Say No," and Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" launched Creators For Good, a program that leverages the influence of YouTube and social media stars in order to move the needle on important social issues. 19 months later, Creators For Good is making some serious noise.
At the Ad Council’s annual Public Service Award Dinner held at the iconic Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria, the nonprofit feted some of its creative partners and recognized the important work they've done across multiple campaigns.

On June 7th, YouTube star GloZell Green released Is You Okay?, a self-styled memoir that adds her name to the list of digital personalities who double as published authors. By entering the literary world, GloZell is following the lead of many of her colleagues, but her effort is anything but ordinary. Instead, she uses her age -- she turns 44 in July -- and her experience to share a story younger creators cannot tell.
GloZell, like Ricky Dillon, stylized her book as both a homage to the challenge videos for which she is famous and a revelation about the past events in her life that have led her to this point. “The creative process was theraputic, fun and sometimes uneasy,” she told Tubefilter. She explained how she had to relive relive the past and realize “what it took, who and what I lost, and who and what I've gained to get where I am today.”
What GloZell ultimately chronicles is a remarkable transformation. As she puts it, she grew up in a world with typewriters, landlines, and a limited number of TV channels. Despite all that, she has entered a field populated by creators who were born into social media, and has thrived within that world, racking up more than 730 million views and over 4.3 million subscribers. “My book is unique because I am older,” she said. “I have a wisdom that is unique to my story.”

Dillon’s off-YouTube ventures have typically sold well (his debut Ep Rpd in particular was a big hit on iTunes), and Follow Me seems like it too will generate plenty of attention On the day of its release, it began to make an impact on several of Amazon’s category-specific bestseller lists.

Thousands of digital creators, industry professionals, brands, and fans will pack their bags for sunny Florida next week in anticipation of Playlist Live Orlando -- a six-year-old convention that has evolved into an annual industry staple.
This year’s three-day event, of course, purports to be its biggest yet with roughly 12,000 fans, 450 influencers and 75 brands in attendance -- representing a 2,000% increase in attendance since the event’s inception in 2011, says founder Alex Tchekmeian. And for the first time, the event will culminate with a two-hour firework, laser light, and DJ show for attendees and influencers alike on Saturday evening.
“This year we’ve really activated the whole entire outdoor space of the venue -- so that’s going to be one of the bigger features this year,” Tchekmeian tells Tubefilter.
With 600 fans in attendance at the very first Playlist Live, this figure has doubled every year between 2011 and 2015. This year,...

Two top YouTube stars will lend their voices to an upcoming animated movie. Beauty guru Kandee Johnson and vlogger Ricky Dillon have joined the cast of Trolls, which will be produced by DreamWorks Animation.
Trolls will bring troll dolls, which have experienced multiple periods of popular appeal since their first production in the 1950s, to the big screen. The film’s voice cast will be an eclectic group that will include Hollywood celebrities Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, musicians Gwen Stefani and Icona Pop, late night TV host James Corden, and at least four YouTube stars. Beyond Johnson and Dillon, online video creators GloZell Green and Meg DeAngelis will have their own roles in the movie, as announced back in January.
“This is my first time voice acting and I had a blast,” wrote Dillon, whose hair kind of resembles that of a troll doll, on Tumblr. “I only have...

Ricky Dillon is spending more time in the spotlight, literally. The singer-songwriter, whose YouTube channel has more than 2.8 million subscribers, last week wrapped up his first concert tour, which hit 13 U.S. cities, and he has an eye on taking his performances abroad. Although digital stars spur their fame online, live appearances are an integral part of widening their fan base and making money. It is an exploding business: DigiTour, the biggest producer of live social-star events, last year predicted that its own shows would draw 350,000 attendees in 2015, up from 120,000 the year before. Ricky Dillon has added a book to his list of projects. The social media star, whose 2.8 million subscribers make him one of YouTube’s most popular personalities, has announced a memoir called Follow Me, which will be published by Simon & Schuster imprint Keywords Press.
Dillon revealed Follow Me through an elaborate scavenger hunt that took him to multiple countries. At its conclusion, he opened a box in a field to reveal a copy of his book, which he proceeded to discuss at length.
As with many other books authored by YouTube stars (and many of the books published by Keywords Press in particular), Follow Me is a personal memoir, though Dillon has come up with a twist to differentiate his literary effort. In keeping with the abundance of challenge videos on his YouTube channel, Dillon’s book will feature a series of challenges for his readers. Along the way, these...

As Bullying Prevention Month draws to a close, the Ad Council is promoting a new anti-bullying campaign with help from popular YouTube stars. The non-profit organization known for socially-minded PSAs has teamed with digital creators such as the Fine Bros. and Grace Helbig to launch the I Am a Witness campaign.
Developed in partnership with Goodby Silverstein & Partners and several non-profits and youth experts, the Ad Council’s I Am a Witness campaign seeks to encourage teens to take a stand against bullying. The non-profit organization notes in a release how Pew Research discovered 90% of young adults aged 12-17 who have witnessed online bullying ignore what they experienced. Furthermore, 35% of teens in this age range keep quiet and let online bullying go unpunished on a regular basis. The Ad Council wants to encourage these teens to speak out against bullying instead of remain silent.

The Storybook Killer horror short tells the story of four friends who reunite looking for answers about the mysterious disappearance of one of their brothers that took place years before at an abandoned fairytale theme park. The four friends end up being killed off one by one over the course of the story.
The short was directed by Andrew Vallentine, and it stars Ricky Dillon, Ashley Argota, Meg DeAngelis, Josh Leyva, and Cody Saintgnue.
This is a fun horror short that I think some of you will enjoy, and the abandoned fairytale theme park is really a nice touch that added some decent production value and an eerie vibe. It was actually shot on location at the Enchanted Forest theme park in Oregon.

The horror short is about a group of friends who go looking for a long lost brother at a nearby theme park, only to end up being killed one-by-one. Ricky Dillon has had quite the career. The 23-year-old YouTube star got his start on YouTube in 2010 on his channel PICKLEandBANANA, which now boasts over 2.6 million subscribers. Dillon then went onto become a founding member of the original YouTube supergroup Our 2nd Life (O2L), subsequently touring the country with his five other O2L buddies in the summer of 2014 (and shooting a documentary feature) before disbanding in February 2015.
But the end of O2L was clearly not the end of Dillon’s digital efforts. After posting cover songs to his YouTube channel on and off since its inception, Dillon released his debut single “Ordinary” in 2014, and launched an Ep of five songs in January 2015. The vlogger’s musical skills have now blossomed into a full-length album set for release in late 2015. And that's in addition to a few short films Dillon has been working on that will make their...

It’s also embedded right here:
