If you’ve ever worked retail, it’s impossible not to connect with the hilarity on display in the classic Kevin Smith comedy Clerks. Ever since my first experience with the film, the characters of Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) have always held a special place in my heart. If you are fan of the two, then you are well aware that this comedic duo continued on in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Clerks 2, Dogma and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. Hell, the two even popped…...

Cinemax has renewed long-running action-packed drama Strike Back for a seventh and final season.
Strike Back has just received orders for its final mission.
While the currently-running sixth season of Strike Back only just launched on January 25, Cinemax wasted little time issuing a preemptive renewal for a seventh season of the firearms-and-espionage action thriller. However, the swift greenlight comes with the caveat that Season 7 will mark the end of the series.
The series, which follows the intense exploits of a deadly, internationally-operating government-disavowed British special ops team, called Section 20, has seen its gun-toting team save the world from terrorist cells and even nuclear global catastrophe. However, the team is set to tackle one last global threat before riding off into the proverbial Cinemax sunset.
As Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, states of the move:

Stephen Chow‘s Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons quickly took off upon its international release in early 2013, earning praise for and winning audiences with its (typical of the multi-hyphenate) inventive action sequences, soon going on to become the highest-grossing Chinese-language film of all-time. It has since been surpassed by Chow’s follow-up feature, The Mermaid, and, if the trailer for Journey‘s sequel, subtitled The Demons Strike Back — that’s how life works: first you conquer the demons, then they strike back — is indicative of what we’re to get, he may hit the seemingly impossible three-peat.
Written by Chow and directed by the legendary Tsui Hark, it concerns palaces, slums, royal figures, bums, monkeys, ice men, and, yes, demons, all of which are either the setting for or focus of huge-scale, CGI-assisted action sequences that, in most cases, would look like far too much. This summer, the last-known videocassette recorder manufacturer shut down production – effectively ending that once-dominant medium after several decades. Could the DVR soon face a similar fate?
More than 17 years after digital video recorder technology was first launched at the 1999 Consumer Electronics Show, growth has stalled. About 50 percent of U.S. television households now use a DVR, but that number is flat, and has been for several years. While older viewers continue to adopt the DVR, younger viewers – including Millennials – seem disinterested.
“I think we can fairly say that the DVR’s reign is about to end,” Alan Wurtzel, NBC’s research and media development president, recently told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour. “Anybody who wants a DVR has one. If you don’t have one, it’s because you don’t want it.”

You’d be hard-pressed to find a longtime Star Wars fan who has a lot of nice things to say about the prequels that George Lucas returned to direct in the late 1990s and through the early 2000s. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were undoubtedly huge hits, but they […]

The Prequels Strike Back Trailer: This Documentary Wants Us to Reconsider The Worst Star Wars Movies
It's going to take a hell of a lot of convincing to get me (and many other Star Wars fans) to appreciate George Lucas's prequels as anything other than a step forward in the then-burgeoning art of digital filmmaking. But a new documentary called The Prequels Strike Back: A Fan's Journey seems to want to convince us that the three largely-reviled films deserve to be reconsidered. Featuring interviews with prominent film critics (and Kevin Smith), Bradley Weatherholt's doc nevertheless seems like something I'd be interested in watching, even if I don't ultimately change my mind about the movies. But hey — maybe there's some revelation or insight in here that does completely alter my perception of these films on a fundamental level. I'll never know unless I watch it.

It would appear that both The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are part of a massive apology tour from Kathleen Kennedy for George Lucas’s prequel trilogy, attempting to recapture that magic of the original 1977 film by basically remaking it. Each film of the prequel series, beginning with 1999’s The Phantom Menace, was met with with revulsion and abhorrence by fans who went and saw them three times each, just to make sure they weren’t missing anything.
However, it turns out not every Star Wars fan despises the prequels—after all, hate leads to suffering blah, blah blah—and those fans are the subject of a new documentary, The Prequels Strike Back, from filmmaker and prequel apologist Bradley Weatherholt. Throughout the course of the film, Weahterholt seeks to “unlearn the prequels,” delving into the method to Lucas’s madness and take a second ...

CBS is less diverse this year when it comes to series leads, and entertainment president Glenn Geller admits it.
The exec was hit hard on the topic Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour, confessing that “we need to do better and we know it.”
Geller didn’t give concrete details on how the network would address the issue over the coming year, but did tout the fact that CBS’ series ensembles have actually become “more diverse” over the past year.

A review of the Banshee series finale, and thoughts on the final season as a whole, coming up just as soon as I see my daughter off to college... "Banshee, Pennsylvania... suck my tit." -Job Well, that was much more like it, and not a minute too soon. For the show that was Cinemax's first real original drama (Strike Back was a co-production, continuing a pre-existing UK series), Banshee got a somewhat shabby send-off year. Two fewer episodes, a new production base, and an altered budget all guaranteed that the final season wasn't going to feel quite like the ones before it. When I moderated a discussion with the cast at the aTVfest earlier this spring, writer/producer Adam Targum said that one of the reasons for the time jump was to lean into the fact that everything was going to be so different after the move from North Carolina to Pittsburgh.

Particularly in its superlative third season, Banshee figured out how to tease you with a juicy plot point or two before turning the whole story on its head, or else dropping the kind of experimental episodes in the middle of a season that left you reeling from the confident brilliance on display. Classic 1980s action series MacGyver is in line for a reboot, as CBS orders a revamped pilot episode…
MacGyver is set for a reboot. CBS has put into production a pilot episode, which seeks to launch a revamped series inspired by the 1985-1992 ABC show that starred Richard Dean Anderson as secret agent Angus MacGyver.
As you may have guessed, this will be a ‘contemporary update’, not a period piece. It’ll follow ‘a twenty-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.’
Essentially, then, it’ll be an origin story for MacGyver. Whomever CBS will cast in the title role remains to be seen, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear any rumblings. We do know, however, that James Wan will direct the...

Following the recent outcry that Rey isn’t featured as a playable token in the new version of Star Wars Monopoly, Hasbro have made a public statement providing a reason for the oversight – which, it turns out, wasn’t an oversight to begin with. This comes off the back of fan-grumbling that Finn, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are all player counters, when Rey is arguably the main character and the latter two barely feature in The Force Awakens. The spokesperson for Hasbro stated;
“The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance.”
The explanation feels like a bit of a copout. Surely Rey could have been included as a playable character without giving away her...

Director of The Force Awakens reveals the thinking behind writing strong female roles.
Jj Abrams, director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has talked about placing a woman at the centre of the blockbuster fantasy franchise and casting females in both good and evil roles.
“From the very beginning of our discussions about this movie, the notion of a woman at the centre of the story was always something that was compelling to me and exciting,” said Abrams at a press conference.
“It was important that - in addition to Leia, who we knew was a critical piece of this puzzle - we wanted to have other women and not necessarily human but female characters in the story.”
He pointed to Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o in the role of Maz Kanata – “the voice of Force wisdom in the story – and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma as “the evil side leading the Stormtroopers”.

Mr Robot, Cucumber, Inside No. 9...Here are Den Of Geek writers' top 15 TV episodes of 2015. Did your favourites make the cut?
The votes are in.
Earlier this month, over thirty of Den Of Geek's writers nominated up to five of their favourite television episodes of the year, ranked in order of preference. Points were allocated. Favourites emerged. And the sanity of the site's TV editor was offered once again as a festive sacrifice to the God of Microsoft Excel worksheets.
Over eighty individual episodes were nominated in total, and below are the fifteen that placed highest overall...
15. Rick & Morty – Total Rickall
What our writer said:
“Clip shows are traditionally seen as ways to save money, building a flimsy narrative framework of nostalgia-fuelled new footage around flashbacks to previous episodes. Somehow, Dan Harmon's shows usually manage to put more effort into spoofing this type of episode than any other episode.

There's no question that the one thing being discussed the most about J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" at this point, beyond the excitement of people to see it, is that of Mark Hamill's return as Luke Skywalker in the film.
Kept under wraps in all the promotional material, there's a lot of debate about what has happened to his character - has he turned evil? Is he in hiding? At what point will he appear in the film?
Hamill himself shot his scenes a long time ago, and more recently has been filming motion capture work on the expansive sci-fi video game "Star Citizen" which has also had a secretive history. Speaking with PC Gamer, the actor opened up about working on projects on lock down and compared it to his time on "The Empire Strikes Back":
"It's crazy though, this Nda stuff, people don't know.

Everything on TV last week retroactively fell under the shadow of what happened in Paris on Friday, which made the weekend shows feel like either a welcome escape or an act of mass commiseration. Last Week Tonight With John Oliver kicked off with the host addressing the terrorists with, "Fuck these assholes." Saturday Night Live — coming back strong from last week's Trump debacle — served up both remembrance and relief, with a touching bilingual nod to France. Even when television offered comfort food, we first had to say a somber grace.

When It Follows and Ex Machina arrived on Blu-ray back on July 14 I honestly completely spaced and forgot all about this column, which is a shame considering those are two of my top three movies of 2015 so far. That said, if you weren't aware they were released you can click on either title and purchase them now.
