Where on earth is Olivia Pope? That’s the question that we’ve been asking ourselves since we saw Olivia hop on the plane with Jake at the end of last season. As season four opens, we find a curly headed Olivia frolicking on some private island with Jake. She has not one care in the world, she’s not at all the Olivia that we know and love. In fact she’s Julia. (For those of you who did not catch the reference, Julia Baker was the name of Diahann Carroll’s character in the television show Julia (1968-1971) Prior to Scandal’s start in 2012, Julia was the last primetime television drama with a Black female lead.) Though Olivia and Jake have seemingly dropped...

“Scandal” is finally back and season 4 is already off in spectacular fashion. The season premiere opens with Olivia (Kerry Washington) lounging on the beach taking in the sun with Jake (Scott Foley). When a ship comes to their island “off the coast of Zanzibar” with supplies, including five bottles of rare wine, Olivia gets an envelope sent to her alias: Julia Baker. Inside is a news clipping announcing Harrison’s (Columbus Short) death, so off they go back to DC for “a few days” to bury her friend. When Olivia gets back, she finds her world completely changed. Opa is [...]

If you wanted to drop off the face of the Earth, you could do worse than end up on a deserted island with a hunky man on top of you and a good book like Gone Girl to while away the hours!
And that's exactly what happened to Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope – or as she'd rather be known on the lam, Julia Baker – in Thursday's season premiere of Scandal.
As fans will recall, Pope accepted her daddy's offer in the season 3 finale to get lost for good after realizing her mother was responsible for killing the son of President...

Sooooo who's drunk? We kind of are. We've been playing our Shondaland Drinking Game, and while Scandal wasn't exactly a typical Scandal episode, we were already slightly gone after that episode of Grey's Anatomy. It all started with Olivia, her amazing hair, and Jake drinking red wine and making out on a beach. And that was all it was for an entire hour. Nothing else happened. Good night. Just kidding. Along with her red wine shipment (because of course) Olivia —sorry, we meant Julia Baker—received an envelope containing an obituary for one Harrison Wright (Rip), which sent her sneakin' back to DC to plan a funeral and discover what all of her old Opa homies were up...

Olivia Pope returned to DC after months away to give Harrison a funeral in Scandal’s fourth season premiere “Randy, Red, Superfreak and Julia.”
Liv And Jake Return To D.C.
After escaping for her day in the sun with Jake (Scott Foley), Liv (Kerry Washington) is no longer Olivia Pope, but Julia Baker. Julia lives on a private island with her hot, ex-B613 agent lover and gets food and red wine delivered via boat. This week’s delivery features a rare bottle of wine and a letter for Julia. Nobody knows she’s there other than her father and a letter is not his style, but, after some deliberation, she opens the letter and finds a newspaper clipping: they found Harrison’s (Columbus Short) body buried in the desert.

Scandal‘s Season 4 premiere had a lot to accomplish — revealing where Olivia vanished to, giving her a compelling reason to return home, presenting a D.C. that’s different (yet familiar enough) to the one she left, and then convincing not just us and Jake but Olivia herself why she needed to stay for not “a couple of days,” but Gladiate once again.
