Hulu announced onApril 28 that the beloved, Emmy-winning sitcom “Schitt’s Creek” will move to the streamer October 3, moving off its current home at Netflix.
“Schitt’s Creek” stars Eugene Levy as formerly wealthy media mogul Johnny, who moves his family — former soap star Moira (Catherine O’Hara), entrepreneur David (Daniel Levy), and influencer Alexis (Annie Murphy) — to small town Schitt’s Creek, which he once purchased as a gag.
The six-season series premiered in 2015 on Canadian cable network CBC Television and gained viral popularity once it began streaming on Netflix. The final season swept the 2020 Emmy Awards in the comedy categories, marking the most wins in a single season.
Hulu will now be the dedicated subscription VOD destination for “Schitt’s Creek,” beginning in October.

Hulu is taking rights to popular streaming title Schitt’s Creek, with all six seasons of the comedy series shifting over from Netflix this fall.
The change will take effect on October 3, the Disney-run streaming service announced.
The multi-year deal is the latest in a string of nine-figure library transactions in the streaming sector in recent years, with shows like The Office, Friends and Seinfeld switching domestic homes. Having a deep catalog with a few marquee offerings is generally seen as a way to limit the number of subscribers canceling service in a given month (aka churn), but a strong slate of originals is what typically motivates new customers to start subscribing. The overall boom in streaming and the launch of a handful of well-fortified new outlets, however, have created robust buy-side demand for pre-sold film and TV titles.
In announcing the move, Hulu didn’t position the show as a musty older title.

Emmy-winning comedy series “Schitt’s Creek” will cycle off Netflix in the U.S. later this year, to become available exclusively on Disney’s Hulu.
Hulu announced that it will be the dedicated subscription video on-demand home “Schitt’s Creek” in the U.S. beginning Oct. 3, 2022. The fan-favorite show, which originally aired in the U.S. on Paramount’s Pop TV, ended its six-season run in 2020.
In 2020, the series made history by sweeping all Primetime Emmy Awards comedy categories — notching the most wins in a single season for a comedy. That included lead actor and actress trophies for Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy, as well as supporting actress and actor wins for Annie Murphy and Daniel Levy. “Schitt’s Creek” also won the Emmy that year for directing for a comedy series for Andrew Cividino and Daniel Levy, as well as a writing win for Daniel Levy.

“Nomadland” look home the top film prize at the 2021 Producers Guild Awards Wednesday, bringing it closer to a Best Picture win. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize has historically been a strong indicator of which film will will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 31 times. It happened in 2018 with “Green Book,” but not last year: “1917” won at the 2020 PGAs, but the Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Parasite.”
This year, 10 movies competed for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures (see the full list of nominees and winners below). Seven 2021 PGA nominees for the top prize are also 2021 Oscar Best Picture nominees: “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Sound Of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

“When it’s time to lay down your weary head, you’ll find comfort and safety at the partially renovated Rosebud Motel.”
So begins Catherine O’Hara as famed actress and Rose family matriarch Moira in the final season trailer for “Schitt’s Creek,” which Pop TV released Friday.
The trailer opens with O’Hara, Eugene Levy’s Johnny Rose and Emily Hampshire’s Stevie Budd standing in front of the infamous motel setting for the Canadian comedy, filming a commercial-within-the-show for their business.
“There is value in these motels,” Levy’s Johnny says. “My family and I have been staying in a motel for the past three years, and I wouldn’t trade our stay there for anything.”
But it’s not just that motel that is getting a transformation before the series comes to an end in spring 2020. The final season of “Schitt’s Creek” is planning David and Patrick’s wedding,...

Fox Television Stations have nabbed the rights to Emmy-nominated comedy Schitt’s Creek, Pop TV’s highest-rated series, in a two-year deal with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury. All seasons of Schitt’s Creek will begin airing in U.S. broadcast markets beginning in September 2020. The series returns for its sixth and final season on Pop TV and Canada’s CBC in January 2020. Its total episode count will be about 80 episodes, which is a syndicatable amount by today’s standards.
It is not very common for a cable series, especially a single-camera comedy, to be sold in broadcast syndication, especially one airing on a smaller channel like the CBS-owned Pop. But Schitt’s Creek has not been an ordinary series, increasing its ratings every season and growing its popularity beyond television throughout its run. That was recently taken to another gear with Schitt’s Creek’s launch on Netflix.

Pop TV comedy “Schitt’s Creek” finally received Emmy love this year, but not for these scenes.
The Dan and Eugene Levy-created comedy dropped the “mega-blooper-reel you’ve all been waiting for” on its Twitter account Friday. The four-minute clip shows Moira Rose (Catherine O’Hara) mess up — multiple times — that iconic Herb Ertlinger fruit wine commercial; Alexis (Annie Murphy) can’t figure out if it’s “title” track or “top” track; and David (played by series co-creator Dan Levy) has some awkward issues with a mannequin.

Schitt’s Creek will be coming to an end after one more final season. The comedy’s co-creators Daniel Levy and Eugene Levy just made the announcement on social media. Pop in the U.S. and CBC in Canada have renewed the show for a sixth season to air in 2020. The comedy’s final chapter is currently in pre-production and begins shooting in a few weeks.
Schitt’s Creek has been a transformational series for Pop, putting the network on the original programming map and remaining the CBS-owned net’s flagship show. The saga of the wealthy Rose family took a little while to get traction but in the last couple of years it hit its stride, growing in popularity and entering pop culture.

Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury has acquired U.S. broadcast syndication rights to Schitt’s Creek, the single-camera comedy that is the top-rated original show on Pop, the cable network co-owned by Lionsgate and CBS. The series, created by Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy, stars Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Chris Elliott, Daniel Levy, Annie Murphy and Emily Hampshire. It centers on a wealthy family who goes broke and moves to Schitt’s Creek, a small town they once bought as a joke. Season five of the series, renewed by CBC and Pop, is currently in production. The show has grown steadily, albeit from a modest base. Its fourth season, which wrapped April 11, drew 116% more adults 18-49 than the average viewership in the first season. Total viewership has nearly doubled. “It is not every day you can walk into a TV station with a comedy this good, with a cast this talented...
