Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are staunch animal rights activists.
The couple marched together on Sunday during the National Animal Rights Day demonstration in West Hollywood, California.
The actors, who are both vegans, wore black T-shirts and pants as they held dead birds in their gloved hands during the demonstration.
The nonprofit Our Planet. Theirs Too. created the annual day of observance in 2011 in order to give all animals a voice.
Their advocacy comes after Mara sparked engagement rumors in late May when she was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her left hand while running errands in Los Angeles.

Rooney Mara might be taking her relationship with Joaquin Phoenix to the next level.
The actress, 34, was photographed wearing a large diamond ring on her left hand while in Los Angeles on Friday while she was running errands in a black T-shirt, jeans and a sweatshirt tied around her waist.
Representatives for Mara and Pheonix did not comment when asked about the pair’s relationship.
Mara and Phoenix, 44, have been romantically linked since filming Mary Magdalene in late 2016. The two were reportedly seen spending time together on and off set while filming, including an outing on their Italian hotel’s...

Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, Jack Black, Tony Greenhand, Beth Ditto, Mark Webber, Ronnie Adrian, Kim Gordon, Udo Kier, Carrie Brownstein | Written and Directed by Gus Van Sant
Gus Van Sant’s biopic Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot is a beautifully melancholic coy and frequently dark passage and resulting examination of addiction and pain in the short, but the remarkably artistic life of John Callahan. Callahan, played by the extraordinary talented Joaquin Pheonix, who injects such passion and character into a cold story. The energy and understanding of such a script and the character are what Pheonix excels in throughout his career. Nothing ever feels like a cash grab, nor fluke in his strongest most marvellous performances and his spectacular rendition in Van Sant’s film is nothing short of perfect.

Review by Stephen Tronicek
There’s a moment in the second act of Christian Petzold’s new film Transit that summarizes the strength of Petzold’s cinematic form. Georg (Frank Regowski), an immigrant who has fled to a new country, an impending occupation following him helps a young boy fix a radio. Once the radio is fixed a simple, yet longing, tune springs from it. Georg freezes and upon being asked by the little boy what the song is he recalls that it is one his mother sang him to sleep with.
There are many great, deeply personal things about Transit. The performances are beautiful and the rich colors of the frame...

Joaquin Phoenix, who is set to star as the Batman comics villain the Joker in Todd Phillips' upcoming stand-alone movie, on Saturday dismissed speculation that he had come out of retirement.
"I didn't work for a while because there was nothing I was really interested in," Pheonix told a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival for The Sisters Brothers, which is screening at the fest.
"And then there were four projects that I was interested in. There wasn't any grand design. It just worked out that way," he added. After winning the best ...

As you all know, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are currently developing a Joker origin film with director Todd Philips and producer Martin Scorsese. They want Joaquin Phoenix to take on the role of the Crown Prince of Crime. We know that the actor is interested and is in talks, regardless of him saying that he has no idea he's involved with the film.
I'm actually pretty fascinated with the idea of this team of talent coming together to develop a standalone Joker movie. It very well could turn out amazing. Phoenix still isn't officially saying that he's going to be in the movie or not, but in a recent interview with Collider, they talked Phoenix about what Christopher Nolan and Heath Ledger did with the Joker in The Dark Knight. When asked if that might intimidate actors from wanting to play the Joker in a future movie, Pheonix explained...

Joaquin Phoenix looking to take on the role of The Joker in director Todd Phillip's upcoming untitled original film that will focus on the Clown Prince of Crime. Phoenix is such a great actor and he's certainly going to bring something very different and bold to the character.
According to Variety, the studio has not entered into negotiations with the actor yet, but he has apparently been in talks and according to the report, "Phoenix has agreed to the role." At this point it just a matter of getting the contract worked out.
This actually isn't the first time that Joaquin Phoenix has been wanted for the role. Darren Aronofsky wanted him to play The Joker in his Batman film. The studio originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to take on the part, but that obviously didn't work out. Pheonix is actually probably the better choice. He's definitely going to bring a...

The first trailer has been released for director Gus Van Sant's (Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, Milk) new film Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot. The movie is based on a true story and it stars Joaquin Phoenix as John Callahan, a slacker alcoholic from Portland whose life is turned upside down when he is paralyzed in a car accident. This difficult journey leads him on a path to becoming a cartoonist.
The movie has a great supporting cast that also includes Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, and Jack Black. The movie will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week, and I plan on catching a screening of this film while I'm there. It looks like Pheonix is going to give another great performance! Here's the synopsis:
