[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Masked Singer Season 9 Episode 13 “Semi-Finals.”] And then there were two. In The Masked Singer Season 9 semifinals, a three-way Battle Royale, it was California Roll who was unmasked — and as quite a few had guessed, in those costumes were the members of a cappella group Pentatonix! Meanwhile, Medusa and Macaw are moving on to the finals, airing May 17. Here, Scott Hoying, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee of Pentatonix open up about their time on the Fox show. Was it an easy yes for all of you? Did anyone have to be convinced? Kevin Olusola: Yeah, it was a pretty easy yes. I think the thing that we were thinking about, though, is how do we make sure that people hear us in a completely different light and a different way? Because what we do is so specific that we weren’t sure how we were going to mask ourselves vocally...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 13 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired May 10 on Fox.
Pentatonix is pretty easy to recognize, as perhaps the best-known a cappella group performing today. So from the start, it was pretty easy to tell it was them on “The Masked Singer” – and indeed, the five-person group was unmasked as California Roll on Thursday’s show, which also doubled as the Season 9 semifinals.
For their first song, “Paparazzi,” group member Scott Hoying said they tried to avoid doing any harmonies at first, “so we could hide the iconic Pentatonix harmony sound for at least a minute. For the first minute, I was trying to really change my voice. But it didn’t work, because every comment on every video was like, ‘I knew from the beginning it was Pentatonix and I was confirmed as soon as they all came in.

The semifinals have come and gone on “The Masked Singer” and sadly, California Roll did not make it to the final two slots. Still, they’re pretty pleased with their run, even if fans knew who they were almost immediately. In fact, it was actually “a compliment” to them that that was the case.
Wednesday night’s episode saw Macaw, Medusa and California Roll face off for a trip to the finals, with the giant sushi characters first performing Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.” Then, in the night’s battle royale, they performed Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby” with the other contestants. But, in the end, California Roll was unmasked, and revealed to be… Pentatonix.
Of course, judges Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy knew that, having guessed correctly well prior to their reveal. The same can be said for fans, who picked up on Scott Hoying’s vocals in particular. And admittedly,...

It took till season 9 of “The Masked Singer” but we’ve finally got a costume that features five performers: the California Roll. They took to the stage on March 1 to deliver a soaring cover of the hit “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga. After Polar Bear lost the audience vote and was revealed to be rapper Grandmaster Flash, California Roll was pitted in a Battle Royale with Medusa.
Each put their own spin on the classic tune “Uptown Girl” by Billie Joel. Medusa delivered a traditional take on the tune while California Roll turned it into a haunting ballad. After Medusa won the vote, we thought this was the last we’d see of California Roll but Nicole Scherzinger sounded the Ding Dong bell and saved them.

This is what dreams are made of. Hilary Duff let the rain fall down by making a delightful callback to her iconic anti-gay bulling commercial from 2008 in a new TikTok. And helping her to recreate the beloved clip, were Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying and his fiancé, Mark Manio. The Sept. 22 video uses the original audio from the PSA which features two teenagers trying on tops in a clothing store, and using the word "gay" in a derogatory way, Lizzie McGuire steps in to educate the pair. "Do you like this top?" Scott lip-syncs at the start of the clip, with Mark responding, "It's so gay. Yeah, it's totally...

Exclusive: Nickelodeon, in collaboration with Tyran ‘Ty Ty’ Smith & Jay Brown Productions, have formed a new pop/R&b girl group called Good Newz Girls.
This is a rare music group created by a TV network outside of a reality series. (There are no current plans for Good Newz Girls to headline a series for Nick.) This is part of a new larger Nickelodeon music strategy to develop and sign young artists and market them within the Nickelodeon ecosystem and externally.

A cappella group Pentatonix is all in for “UglyDolls’” message of embracing what makes one different.
Scott Hoying, one of five group members, told Variety at the “Ugly Dolls” red carpet when asked why they were attracted to providing a song for the soundtrack, “We love animated films and the message of the film is just so beautiful. Being different is cool. And all five of us are very different.”
Pentatonix covers the hit Hall & Oates song “You Make My Dreams.” “We love that song,” said group member Kristin Maldonado at L.A. Live Saturday.
The animated film’s director Kelly Asbury seemed to be on the same page with the a cappella group. “When someone leaves the theater, I hope they’re a little kinder to themselves and to other people,” said Asbury.

We never tire of Pentatonix's catchy covers. On Fourth of July, the a cappella group lit up Washington, D.C., as they performed their brand new mashup of "Stay" and "The Middle" during PBS's A Capitol Fourth. In addition to showing off their incredible voices, the group put their own spin on the hit songs by slowing things down a bit. If you're obsessed with their cover, we have good news: there are plenty more amazing Ptx performances in store!
Ahead of their appearance on A Capitol Fourth, we talked exclusively with Scott Hoying about Pentatonix's upcoming Summer tour. Spoiler: it's going to be "epic." Not only are they performing some new and old hits, but Hoying added that this tour really feels like "the best version of Pentatonix." The tour kicks off on July 12, but in the meantime you can replay their gorgeous performance above.

The Christmas season is always an active time of year for the a cappella group Pentatonix, and this year, the group's schedule included an appearance on TV. Pentatonix members Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, and Kevin Olusola took turns trading barbs with the 90s icons, who were ultimately declared as the battle's victors. Matt Sallee, who recently made his debut as the newest member of Pentatonix, did not appear on the show.

Following the departure of bass vocalist Avi Kaplan from YouTube supergroup Pentatonix in May, fans of the a cappella quintet were treated to their first glimpse at new member Matt Sallee in action yesterday with the official music video for 'Deck The Halls'.

She may be one of the stars of this year's My Little Pony: The Movie, but pop star Sia has a more grown-up side, too. A stealthy photographer got an uncensored pic of that side of her recently and then tried to make some money by selling it online. Sia wasn't humiliated, though. Instead, she posted the photo on her Twitter account so her fans could get a look at it for free.
Via Us Weekly.
Cheap thrills, indeed! Sia posted a nude photo of herself on social media after someone tried selling the image online.

It's been five months since Avi Kaplan, the founding bass singer of Pentatonix, decided to step away from the popular a cappella group. The Pentatonix YouTube channel, which has more than 13 million subscribers, has been quiet since then, but with the holiday season fast approaching, the musical quintet has now added a new member to its ranks. Matt Sallee will join Pentatonix as its bass voice for both an upcoming wintertime tour and a new album called A Pentatonix Christmas Deluxe.
Sallee, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, will take over Kaplan's position in the lowest register of Pentatonix's range. The group, whose other members are Kirstie Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, Scott Hoying, and Mitch Grassi, welcomed its new addition into the fold with an Instagram post. "We love Matt and we think you’ll love him too," it reads.

A cappella group Pentatonix, which has more than 13 million subscribers on YouTube, is so popular that even its side groups have enough clout to launch their own albums. Superfruit, a spin-off channel hosted by Pentatonix members Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, has announced its plan to release both parts of a double Ep called Future Friends in 2017.
Future Friends will be split across two albums. The first half of the Ep is due out on June 30th, with preorders beginning ten days prior to release. The second half will arrive on September 15th. Additional details about the multi-part project are available in a video released by Grassi and Hoying on the Superfruit channel.
Grassi and Hoying first launched Superfruit in 2013 as a hub on which they could celebrate their lifelong friendship. In 2016, they released an original song under the Superfruit banner, titled “Bad 4 Us.” A second song, “Sweet Life,” followed a month later.

This holiday season, a cappella group Pentatonix offered up A Pentatonix Christmas, which serves as their second album of Yuletide songs. This time, in support of their effort to mission to spread holiday cheer, they took to YouTube to share a unique offering with their fans. A partnership between Sony Music Originals and Lego has resulted in a Lego-fied, 360-degree music video for Pentatonix’s cover of the 150-year-old Christmas song “Up On The Housetop.”
To create the video, Sony (which is partnered with Pentatonix through its RCA Records label) turned to the Lego Group in search of an animated makeover for its a cappella all stars. The toy company obliged, creating versions of band members Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Avi Kaplan, and Kevin “K.O.” Olusola using its iconic toys as models.
The resulting video is embedded below. For best results, watch it in 360-degrees through a device such as Google Cardboard.

With his soulful vocals and penchant for pop-music mashups, Todrick Hall has won over millions of fans, found a crew of A-list pals and now snagged the spotlight on Broadway.
On Tuesday, the singer stepped into a pair of sequined heels to play Lola in Kinky Boots, a role he’ll he’ll take on eight times a week at the Al Herschfeld Theatre in New York City. Dressing up in drag and baring his soul are par for the course these days for Hall, but the singer wasn’t always so comfortable in his skin.

The 50th annual Cma Awards were made for TV, which means you had the best seat to watch three-plus hours of unforgettable performances. Commercial breaks turned into massive (and very brief) celebrity cocktail parties.
Well, without the actual cocktails (if you don’t count the flask that Cam’s husband, Adam Weaver, was swigging from). The stars just couldn’t seem to sit still...

Thanks to the popularity of its latest album, Pentatonix has added another feather to its cap. The a cappella group from Dallas, best known for its YouTube channel, has reached the top of the Billboard 200 with its 12-day-old, self-titled effort.
Pentatonix (the album, not the group itself) arrived on October 16th, with both regular and deluxe versions available from retailers like iTunes. In contrast to the group’s previous albums, which feature a majority of cover songs, almost all of the tracks on Pentatonix are original songs. A music video for album’s lead single, “Can’t Sleep Love,” has received more than 6.9 views since its September 4th release on YouTube.
