Elle Mills‘ first short film has been picked up by content creator-focused studio/distribution platform Creator+.
Mills—a longtime YouTuber with 1.75 million subscribers—raised almost 24,000 on IndieGoGo to produce Reply, which she describes as “Ferris Bueller + Parent Trap + 13 Going on 30 + Wes Anderson but gay?”

Vsauce’s Curiosity Box is off to a new home.
The Stem-focused subscription box has been acquired for 12 million by educational subscription box company Mel Science, a source familiar with the matter tells Tubefilter.
Vsauce—which, for those unfamiliar, was founded by Michael Stevens and breaks down science, math, psychology, and other academic topics for more than 26 million subscribers on YouTube—debuted the box in 2016. It delivers four packages per year filled with, as the company puts it, “advanced science products accompanied by high-level experiments, demonstrations and lessons on everything from angular momentum and differential pressure to electromagnetic force.”
Jake Roper, one of Vsauce’s longtime YouTube hosts and COO of Curiosity Box, tells Tubefilter the box currently has more than 10,000 active subscribers. To date, it’s created more than 170 custom products, shipped more than 300,000 individual boxes, and raised 200,000 for Alzheimer’s research.

Jake Roper is set to launch one of his most ambitious projects yet. The science-inclined YouTube creator behind the Vsauce3 channel (which has 3.5 million subscribers and nearly 350 million views to date) will star in a 30-minute unscripted YouTube Original production based off his hit video "Could You Survive Home Alone?"
Produced in partnership with Ample Entertainment, the special dubbed Could You Survive the Movies is set to debut on October 10 on Roper's aforementioned Vsauce3 channel.
Roper uploaded Could You Survive Home Alone? in 2016 and has since garnered close to 10 million views. In the video, Roper recreates three booby traps from the classic ’90s film Home Alone. He uses a little raw pork belly and a dummy that accurately mimics the human body to show just how devastating a red-hot doorknob, a full paint can to the face, and a crowbar to the chest would be for the average person.

If you’re a child of the ’90s, chances are you re-enacted a few “Home Alone” scenes in your day (back when unstructured play time was a thing). Whether it’s slapping fake after shave on your babyface or attempting Rube Goldberg arrangements in the living room, Kevin McCallister’s elaborate booby traps were once the envy of every child. Those kids are all grown up now, and they’re making YouTube videos. The brilliant nerds over at Vsauce have recreated Kevin’s traps from the 1990 Christmas classic to see if a human could actually survive a paint can to the face or a crowbar to the chest.

YouTube star Casey Neistat is repositioning his company Beme under the banner of CNN, and as part of that endeavor, he just made an interesting hire. Beme has tapped Jake Roper, the host of the educational YouTube channel Vsauce3, as its director of production.
Roper announced his new gig via Twitter. He noted that he will continue to host Vsauce3, where 3.2 million subscribers tune in to watch his science videos, so in his words, “nothing will noticeably change!”
The exact specifics of Roper’s role at Beme isn’t publicly known at this time, but Neistat has offered some hints about the sort of content his new venture has in store. “The company that we’re building is like a laboratory where we try different apps, we build different software, we make different shows, we’re gonna start a YouTube channel, it’s a whole bunch of stuff,” he said...

Across three channels, Vsauce demystifies science, mechanics, math, and other academic concepts for its millions of subscribers. The network’s videos are fueled by the deep curiosity of its three hosts -- Michael Stevens, Kevin Lieber, and Jake Roper -- and in 2016, those hosts launched a project that is letting their fans explore their own desires to discover new things. It’s called the Curiosity Box, and it’s a quarterly subscription-based box that has become a hot seller among Vsauce subscribers.
Each Curiosity Box is filled with 6-9 gifts that add up to a total value of at least $85. For the third year in a row, prominent members of the online video community are headed to Toronto to meet up with their fans and share some of their work. The Canadian metropolis will once again play host to the Buffer Festival, an online video gathering meant to resemble a traditional film festival.
Buffer Festival, which was launched in 2013 by vlogger Corey Vidal of the ApprenticeA YouTube channel, works a little differently most of the other events on the online video calendar. Its schedule is filled with 90-minute screenings, each one representing a different genre on YouTube. At a Saturday afternoon Science and Education screening, for example, relevant creators like Jake Roper of Vsauce3 and Matthew Santoro will present topical videos from around the Internet.
As Vidal told the Toronto Sun, this “film festival” feel is all part of the plan. “We want to be taking YouTube really seriously,” he said.

Paul Rudd is back in the digital sphere to promote his upcoming Marvel film Ant-Man. This time, the Wet Hot American Summer actor appeared in two separate videos filmed at YouTube Space La, one for CollegeHumor and one for Jake Roper’s Vsauce3 YouTube channel.
CollegeHumor, which boasts 9.7 million subscribers on its channel, decided to challenge Rudd and his Ant-Man co-star Michael Peña to a unique guessing game for an episode of The Game Show.
