The Broadway production of John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt: A Parable, starring Liev Schreiber and Amy Ryan, has been extended by a week. The show will now close on Sunday, April 21.
The Roundabout Theatre Company’s performance opened on March 7 at the Todd Haimes Theatre. The performance company attributed the extension to a demand for tickets.
The production was originally scheduled to open on Feb. 29 but was delayed when Tyne Daly, who had been cast opposite Schreiber, dropped out due to an unknown illness. Ryan joined the ensemble as Daly’s replacement and has been playing the lead role of Sister Aloysius since Feb. 13.
Schrieber and Ryan have both been praised by critics for their pitch-perfect performances.
Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Zoe Kazan are also stars in the show.

Members of Hollywood’s production community — citing “negligence” and “reckless” behavior — were generally unsurprised by Wednesday’s guilty verdict in the first trial to be held in connection to the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.”
Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer on the movie, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the incident, which occurred Oct. 21, 2021 during filming at Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico.
Those contacted by Variety, including Dp Nancy Schreiber, a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, were angry and troubled by the failure to maintain a safe set. Citing the “negligence of loading live ammunition” near a film set, Schreiber wrote in an email to Variety, “Protocol was outrageously disregarded by the armorer as well as the first Ad in our industry, where safety standards must always come first.”

Ryan Reynolds has fans on their toes with each new update on Deadpool 3. Although the actor has played many impressive roles in his career spanning more than three decades, the most memorable of these unsurprisingly happens to be his role as Deadpool. Much to everyone’s delight, he has never failed to impress the fans with his performance as the Merc with a Mouth.
Even with fans’ love for superhero movies waning, Deadpool seems to be a character that no one gets enough of. Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool movie has added to the excitement for its release. That being said, this is a good chance to redeem one of the X-Men villains, who was wronged in 2017’s Logan.

When a World War II drama series about airmen features the likes of Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan and Callum Turner, it’s reasonable to presume that one of them would be playing the story’s quintessential hotshot pilot. Instead, that honor belongs to Nate Mann, who portrays Lieutenant Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal, one of the most decorated real-life B-17 pilots to serve in WWII, on Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air. Rosie had already established a successful career as a lawyer in New York until the attack on Pearl Harbor eventually led him to Laredo Air Force Base, where he developed his crack piloting skills.
Knowing full well the significance of Rosenthal both on the screen and in real life, Mann refused to gloss over the details of the B-17 and the many responsibilities that a bomber pilot has before, during and after a flight. So he took the words...

Plot: In season two, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction — the Halo.
Review: Halo debuted in 2022 with fifteen years of development baggage heaped on top of it. With sky-high expectations for the series, anything less than a seismic shift in video game adaptations was bound to fail. Halo debuted with a muted response that found the Game of Thrones-esque intrigue and conspiracies distracting from what made the game one of the biggest franchises in history.

After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

For those who may be unaware, allow me to fill you in on a little secret: Gamers can be a pretty, er, passionate bunch. With superhero movies on the downswing and Hollywood's ever-imaginative bean counters frantically searching for their latest holy grail, video game adaptations appear to be the next Big Thing on the horizon. That comes with all sorts of sky-high expectations -- particularly when you're talking about one of the most beloved video game franchises ever made.
The somewhat hit-or-miss first season of "Halo" (to put it generously) often fell victim to that yawning gulf between expectations and reality. Bizarrely enough, the showrunners didn't bother adapting the events of the original game, "Combat Evolved," or even the hundreds of pages of material from the tie-in novels that detailed the origins of Master Chief and his cadre of super-soldiers. The story the Paramount+ series told instead was an oddball mix of head-scratching new material,...

Forget the helmet discourse. Should Master Chief fuck? It’s a question that has haunted Halo fans since John-117 got it on with human Covenant double agent Makee (Charlie Murphy) in the first season of the Paramount+ sci-fi series. However you may feel about this video game hero having sex for the first time in franchise history while Cortana watches on (I’m not making this up), Halo star Pablo Schreiber is taking a very clear stance on the matter.
“The decision to make the connection between Makee and John a romantic connection was a huge mistake,” Schreiber told SFX magazine (via GamesRadar) ahead of Halo season 2, which premieres next month. “I felt it was a huge mistake at the time and I argued against it and fought against it. But I am who I am. I don’t write the scripts. I only give my opinion. It wasn’t listened to.

On Jan. 17, media conglomerate Condé Nast revealed that it would be laying off staff at the online music publication Pitchfork and merging the website with men’s magazine GQ. “Today we are evolving our Pitchfork team structure by bringing the team into the GQ organization,” wrote Anna Wintour, chief content officer at the venerable company that also publishes The New Yorker, Vogue, and Vanity Fair, in a memo to staffers that was first reported by Semafor and obtained by Rolling Stone. “This decision was made after a careful evaluation of Pitchfork’s performance and what we believe is the best path forward for the brand so that our coverage of music can continue to thrive within the company,” Wintour wrote. “Both Pitchfork and GQ have unique and valuable ways that they approach music journalism, and we are excited for the new possibilities together.”
Wintour confirmed that a number of layoffs would result, including Pitchfork editor-in-chief Puja Patel.

“Halo” Season 2 is almost here, and it looks like Master Chief has his work cut out for him.
Paramount+ announced Saturday that the second season of the video game-based series will premiere on Feb. 8, sharing a dramatic teaser trailer. Instrumental music scores a rousing speech as our heroes embark on a doomed mission.
“You deserve the truth,” the trailer’s rousing speech begins. “The enemy is at our gates. Their numbers are overwhelming. Any Marine who makes this stand with us will not survive the day.”
But, there’s a reason for that sacrifice: “For every moment we hold the enemy at bay, more innocent people can escape. When they do, they will go forth and tell the story that you write today. You will be remembered.”
The word “remembered” echoes over the rest of the trailer as we see more action, including human-alien physical combat.

We still remember how, back in 2021, we all anticipated ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and expected all the cameos and special returns. Even though some of them weren’t officially confirmed, the majority of reports turned out to be true back then. Then, in 2022, we all expected ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ to be another cameo-fest, which turned out to be true in one way, but not entirely like in Spider-Man’s case.
You know the saying: history always repeats itself. So now, we are all looking forward to ‘Deadpool 3,’ which will feature some already confirmed special returns, but of course, there are always rumors and reports that there will be many more. How many of those rumors are true? Only time will tell. Until then, another rumor from a known leaker has surfaced on the internet, teasing one more special return for the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ threequel.

The new series follows Soderbergh’s recent Max noir series “Full Circle,” starring Claire Danes and Zazie Beetz, which premiered on July 13. “Command Z” is set to premiere July 17 and will be available on Soderbergh’s website, Extension765.com.

Congratulations are in store for Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup.
Watts took to Instagram on Saturday to share the news that she and Crudup got married.
“Hitched,” Watts captioned a photo of her with Crudup. In the photo, Watts is shown wearing a wedding dress while holding a bouquet and smiling at Crudup.

On her Instagram story, Watts shared that her flowers were “from the deli.” The image was taken outside the New York County Supreme Court building.
The couple was coy when they sparked engagement rumors in April, most notably Watts, who stayed mum when the ring on her finger was brought up during an appearance on the Today show.
“There’s a big glint coming from some ring over here,” Hoda Kotb said to Watts. “It just struck me. It’s beautiful.” Without confirming anything, Watts laughed it off and replied,...

Drew Barrymore. Jada Pinkett-Smith. Liev Schreiber. We all know the common thread here…And while Barrymore’s is the most iconic opening murder in the Scream franchise (and all of horror?), Schreiber has the distinction of his character, Cotton Weary, being the only seasoned veteran to be knocked off in the opening act, a sort of honor in the series. But it may never have happened if it wasn’t for Schreiber’s insistence.
Speaking with GQ, Schreiber said he determined it was time for Cotton Weary to meet his fate in the Scream (then-) trilogy. But if he was going to go, it had to be in the first reel. “I kind of suggested that they knock me off. Part of the device of the movies was that somebody in the first five minutes get killed and we don’t really expect them to get killed.” This would come...

It’s been two years since “The French Dispatch” hit theaters, but the wait for a new Wes Anderson movie is almost over. “Asteroid City,” the auteur’s science fiction-twinged 11th film, premieres in competition at the Cannes Film Festival this week before expanding into theaters nationwide next month. To mark the occasion, Focus Features has released a new clip that shows some of the film’s incredible ensemble cast in action.
“Asteroid City” sees Anderson returning to the midcentury setting of “Moonrise Kingdom” to tell the story of a fictional desert town hosting an annual “Junior Stargazer and Space Cadets” convention on “Asteroid Day.” The local holiday commemorates the day that a meteor struck the town’s location in 3,007 B.C.

National Geographic’s eight-part limited series “A Small Light” premiering May 1 tells the story of Anne Frank through the eyes of Miep Gies, the brave young woman who hid the Franks and four others in secret annex above Otto Frank’’s office in Amsterdam from the Nazis who were rounding up Jewish residents. Miep, who worked for Frank, was one of six people who took care of them. She was tasked with supplying them with meat and vegetables. Wrote Anne Frank: “Miep is just like a pack mule, she fetches and carries so much. Almost every day she manages to get hold of some vegetables for us brings everything in shopping bags on her bicycle.” Miep also brought them books.
The Nazis discovered their hiding place and on Aug. 4, 1944, they were arrested and sent to the death camps. Miep managed to save Anne’s notes and journals from the annex...

A Small Light co-showrunner Joan Rater knows that Anne Frank’s story ends in heartbreaking, horrifying fashion. We all do. Frank’s diary, written while the teenage Jewish girl and her family hid from Nazis in World War II-era Amsterdam, comes to an abrupt close when their secret annex is raided. Anne, and most of her family, later died in concentration camps.
“When I read the diary, still to this day — Joan Rater, 60 years old — I get so caught up in Anne’s humanity and in her everyday stuff, her amazing voice and just in her that I find myself going,...

Anne Frank continues to resonate as perhaps the most famous symbol of Jewish suffering and persecution in the face of the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust during World War II. It was her teenage diary, after all, that remains perhaps the most vivid description of what it was like to live under Nazi occupation – specifically in Amsterdam between 1942 and ’44, while her family was in hiding and she wrote her famed remembrance of being sheltered out of view until a betrayal led to their being discovered.
It was a woman named Miep Gies, however, who provided a first-hand aural witness’s account of those hiding out in what came to be known as the Secret Annex. It’s her tale that’s told in “A Small Light,” a powerful eight-part limited series from NatGeo that premieres with a pair of installments on May 1 and streams the next day on Disney+. It...

There have been no shortage of retellings of Anne Frank’s iconic book “The Diary of a Young Girl.” From the time it was first published in 1947 as Het Achterhuis (The Secret Annex) in Dutch in a small edition of 3,036 copies and went on to become one of the most translated books in the world, it’s been adapted to every medium imaginable – from stage to screens big and small, as a musical, as a dance interpretation, even as a 2017 graphic diary. The first play version of “The Diary of Anne Frank” hit Broadway in 1955 and proved a rousing success, running more than 700 performances and earning its playwrights a Pulitzer Prize. A 1959 theatrical film directed by George Stevens earned eight Academy Award nominations and won three: for Shelley Winters as supporting actress as well as its cinematography and art direction/set decoration.

In an anachronistic city plunged in perpetual darkness, a man (Rufus Sewell) wakes up in a hotel bathtub. Suffering from amnesia, he grapples with his identity after being hounded by pale men in trenchcoats and the city police, wanted for a charge of serial murders. What appears as a stylish noir whodunit with a twist eventually reveals itself to be much more eccentric — the film's titular dark city has been designed by an alien race to keep its human inhabitants trapped in programmed realities. No, this is not a sci-fi entry in the post-Matrix era, but a 1998 neo-noir thriller that preceded it. This is Alex Proyas' intensely surreal "Dark City," which still evokes delicious shocks with its inventive storyline and unique setting 25 years after its release.
Although "Dark City" garnered glowing reviews from critics at the time of its release, the film barely managed to break even, making it a box-office disappointment.

Paul Schreiber has been upped to president of North America at Carsey-Werner Television, taking over all day-to-day distribution operations for the company, which houses a library that includes “That ’70s Show” and “3rd Rock from the Sun.” The news was announced on Tuesday by COO Bob Dubelko.
Schreiber replaces domestic distribution president Jim Kraus, spent 20 years leading Carsey-Werner’s distribution operation and who will now take a senior consultant role with the company. Kraus, whose 45-year career in TV syndication included a lengthy stint at McA-tv (then Universal’s syndication unit), first joined Carsey-Werner in 1999 as exec VP/general sales manager.
As for Schreiber, he’s also a Carsey-Werner longtimer, having first joined the company 26 years ago, back when Carsey-Werner was still active in first-run production. Carsey-Werner exited the active production realm in 2005 but kept a small staff going to continue handling its lucrative library. In recent years, Carsey-Werner has...

Shudder & Studio71’s Cinepocalypse & Bloody Disgusting-produced V/H/S/99 isn’t even out yet and we’re already rewinding all the way back to the 1980s with V/H/S/85!
The news was announced out of the New York Comic Con where Shudder is putting our V/H/S/99 on display ahead of the October 20th release date.
Directors are already locked for V/H/S/85 and filming is currently underway for release in 2023.
Here’s who we lined up:
The only legacy filmmaker is David Bruckner, who will be spearheading the latest entry. Bruckner directed the “Amateur Night” segment of the first V/H/S which featured the breakout performance of Hannah Fierman as a succubus. Bruckner, who also directed Searchlight’s The Night House, just celebrated the release of his Hellraiser reimaging. We’ve been huge fans of Bruckner since he co-directed The Signal and also absolutely love his Netflix creature feature The Ritual.

Afternoon Insiders. A week is a long time in TV and film, and it’s also a long time in politics. Max Goldbart here and we’ve got you covered on all three. Read on.
Bye Bye Boris
All over in 36 hours: Few in Britain’s London politics bubble would have predicted that the scandal to bring down Pm Boris Johnson would involve a little known Deputy Chief Whip called Chris Pincher, but that is exactly what transpired this week. Within a colossal 36 hours that rocked the UK political landscape, Johnson went from feeling vaguely safe after an almost-year-long-stretch of scandals to resigning in disgrace on the steps of his 10 Downing Street home. At times it was almost impossible to keep up (although the BBC and Sky coverage did a fantastic job), as minister after minister resigned in protest at Johnson’s handling of the Pincher scandal and a more general feeling of disarray,...

Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” has already had quite a few lives, surviving for seven seasons on Showtime before being revived as a film soon after its cancellation. But there may be even more on the way. Speaking at a masterclass at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Sunday (via Variety), Liev Schreiber was asked if he was interested in playing the eponymous fixer yet again. His answer should inspire some hope in the show’s biggest fans.
“I would consider it,” Schreiber said.
The actor made it clear that any decisions about bringing back “Ray Donovan” are above his pay grade, but made it clear that the Showtime brass has a lot of passion for the show.

Liev Schreiber wouldn’t be opposed to revisiting “Ray Donovan,” he told the audience at Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival on Sunday. The beloved Showtime series, created by Ann Biderman, was canceled in 2020 after seven seasons. Following the fans’ outcry, “Ray Donovan: The Movie” premiered in 2022.
“I would consider it,” he said during a masterclass.
“It was always [longtime Showtime chief] David Nevins’ baby. I know he loves this character and this story, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more from David.”
Schreiber admitted he was both “disappointed and relieved” by the show’s cancellation, but the outpouring of love and support touched him deeply.
“Naomi [Watts, his ex-partner] was a bigger star than me and we were flying all over the world with our children. But they were getting bigger and they needed to go to school and live in one place. She wanted to live in L.A.

After sitting out 2020 and hosting last year’s showing at a later-than-usual date and with a slightly smaller scale, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic city kicked off this year’s full-throttle 56th edition with a fiery cocktail of pop and politics that carried through to the next day.
Friday night’s opening ceremony neatly set the scene, marrying ebullience and elegy as dancers from the Cabani troupe writhed around literal fireballs onstage before festival president Jiří Bartoška struck more somber tones as he reflected on the recent loss of longtime festival matriarch Eva Zaoralova and on the ever-continuing conflict in Ukraine.
Swinging back toward the poppier side of the spectrum, opening film “Superheroes” launched this year’s edition with a dose of operatic Italian emotion.

When Liev Schreiber first encountered how ordinary Ukrainians on the ground are handling the vast and urgent crises brought on by the Russian war, he says, one thing was clear to him immediately: “They were doing all the work.”
Speaking about his non-profit BlueCheck Ukraine at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Saturday, the actor/writer/producer explained this realization is central to his newly organized efforts to help.
Schreiber was also motivated to found BlueCheck Ukraine after hearing many Americans express doubt about whether funds donated to the war relief effort would reach those most in need. Westerners are skeptical about transparency in Eastern Europe, he learned, likely because of the region’s history of corruption and waste.
So he met with experts with organizations on the ground and they decided that donors needed an organization that could certify dollars given would be used effectively – something many large non-profits...

Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine some four months ago, Hollywood celebrities have been responding to the humanitarian crisis with fund-raising initiatives and supportive visits to the country as well as talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Among the throng have been Sean Penn, Ben Stiller and Ashton Kutcher but few can offer such personal connections and conviction as Liev Schreiber who was born in the States but had fondly remembered Ukrainian grandparents.
On a special “ambassadorial” trip to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Schreiber who was last in the country and at the Festival some 18 years ago for his directorial debut Everything Is Illuminated, based on the book by Safran Foer. It details the story of a young American (played by Elijah Wood) searching for his family roots in Ukraine.

While Ukrainian filmmakers have called out international festivals such as Cannes and Karlovy Vary for the inclusion of Russian titles in their lineups, Liev Schreiber, who has Ukrainian roots stemming from his maternal grandfather, admits he “struggles” with the idea of boycotting art of any kind.
“I struggle with the idea of boycotting any kind of art or expression,” Schreiber told journalists at a press conference at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on Saturday. “Having said that, the reason that I believe, and everyone always asked me why I think Ukraine is going to win, is because I believe that they are going to come out of this eventually on the right side of history. And I believe that because they have the truth on their side.”
