Months before she won the 2023 Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy for the first season of FX’s “The Bear,” it was reported that Ayo Edebiri would move up to lead for season two. According to our odds chart, she looks set to become the 12th woman to reap both supporting and lead Emmy bids (in that order) for a single role on a single series. If she takes the gold again, she will become the first to win both comedy actress awards in that order for one show.
Edebiri’s win in the supporting race at the strike-delayed 75th Emmys was preceded by victories in lead for season two at the 2024 Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards. Having just blocked Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”) from achieving back-to-back supporting Emmy honors, she now faces the challenge of fending off two former lead champions: Jean Smart and Quinta Brunson.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Summer is just around the corner, which means school is almost out — including Abbott Elementary. Although Season 3 is on the shorter side following last year’s dual Hollywood strikes, with14 episodes in total, the hit ABC sitcom has still managed to pack in plenty of fun, drama, and laughs.
This season has seen major developments for many characters, from Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) district storyline to Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) Garden Goofballs club to Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) unexpectedly becoming roommates and good friends. However, there’s one Abbott character who hasn’t gotten much time to shine lately: Ava (Janelle James).

Some categories are competitive this Emmy season and some categories are not. Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series certainly qualifies as the latter. Assuming there are only five nominees as in 2023 (although six is theoretically possible), the field already has three close to locks in last year’s winner in Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series winner Ayo Adebiri (“The Bear”), and the 2021 and 2022 winner Jean Smart (“Hacks”).

Remember to eat your veggies, everyone! After seeing Emily Blunt‘s most recent red-carpet appearance, you might—or might not—get a craving for sweet potatoes, turnips, and radishes.
Following her regal look in Berlin, Emily Blunt made a quirky appearance at Tuesday’s Paris premiere of her latest action-comedy movie, The Fall Guy. She wore a vegetable-print ensemble that instantly attracted attention. I was charmed by her whimsical outfit, which her stylist Jessica Paster selected from Loewe’s Fall 2024 collection.
Inspired by the works of reclusive artist Albert York, the collection features bright themes that include picturesque rural landscapes, feminine florals, and vegetables. I love how these creative, innovative designs are infused in the collection’s avant-garde silhouettes.

Last year, Abbott Elementary's second season ended with an epic fake out: while on a sleepover school trip, Janine and Gregory confessed their feelings for each other in the surprisingly romantic setting of The Franklin Institute (who knew!) and then... decided to stay friends??
Fans of the show either swooned at this continuation of their slow-burn relationship or lost hope (and interest) in the series ever delivering on this particular storyline.
In either case, it seemed a safe bet that these two characters would spend a lot of time apart during the next season and maybe even explore other dating opportunities.
Season 3 opened with a five-month time jump (a creative way to account for delays from the Hollywood writers and actors strikes) and with Janine now working for the Philadelphia school district.
This potentially series-changing news was walked back a bit when we learned that it's only a temporary internship...

Nicola Coughlan opened up about her support for Palestine and how she was told it could affect the acting gigs she’s offered.
In a Teen Vogue cover story, the Bridgerton star sat down to discuss the show’s upcoming and highly anticipated season three. In the conversation, she also got candid about her support for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Coughlan has been vocal on social media about her support for the people, especially the children, of Palestine, who are caught in the middle of the Israel-Hamas War. She acknowledged her support stems from a “moral responsibility to give back” because of her privilege as a white woman.
The actress noted her advocacy began before she landed her breakout role on Derry Girls. She was involved in different causes, like going door-to-door campaigning for marriage equality in her home country of Ireland and marching for abortion rights.

If I were to describe Emily Blunt’s red carpet style, I would say it’s sophisticated, polished, and feminine. She often leans toward the classics but does not hesitate to experiment with contemporary styles.
Such is the case of her recent red carpet appearance. On Friday, Blunt wore a bespoke deep royal blue Jenny Packham jumpsuit to the Berlin premiere of her latest film, The Fall Guy, at Uci Luxe Mercedes Platz.
Her co-star Ryan Gosling, director David Leitch, and producer Kelly McCormick joined her on the red carpet, but Blunt stood out in her blue and gold outfit.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 3, Episode 10, “2 Ava 2 Fest.”] Abbott Elementary’s latest episode revealed Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) big decision surrounding her professional future. After she was offered a more permanent position at the district, she was forced to reckon with what that would mean. Ultimately it meant working with schools across the district, not just kids at Abbott, a school that holds a special place in her heart. Janine’s new employment party at the district happening the same night as the second annual Ava Fest threw into contrast all she’d be leaving behind as a teacher. Disney/Gilles Mingasson Sure, she’d have an opportunity to implement her ideas across the district, but she wouldn’t get that one-on-one time with her students or coworkers. In the end, she chose to forgo the district job, revealing her plan to return after all. Janine was particularly swayed by a goodbye card from Barbara (...

David Hemingson’s The Holdovers at Focus Features won original screenplay and Cord Jefferson’s Oscar-winning American Fiction from Amazon MGM Studios took adapted honours at the strike-delayed Writers Guild Awards on Sunday.
This was a second major adapted screenplay award in relatively short order for Jefferson after last month’s Oscar win.
The Holdovers prevailed in an original screenplay category that included Barbie and May December, but not the Oscar winner Anatomy Of A Fall, rendered ineligible here because it was not produced under a Writers Guild of America (WGA) contract.
The best documentary screenplay award went to Errol Morris for The Pigeon Tunnel.

With the 2024 Oscars and the 2023 Emmys firmly in the rearview mirror, the film and TV awards calendar is all but ready to return to normalcy after last years Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupted the first half of award season. The last major event to be impacted by the altered schedule is today’s WGA Awards, which took place in an unusual post-Oscars slot after the strikes forced the guild to delay its voting process. As most of Hollywood looks ahead to the 2024 film and TV slate, today’s concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium and New York City’s Edison Ballroom gave award watchers one last chance to celebrate the best screenwriting of 2023.

The strike may have delayed and abbreviated the third season of Abbott Elementary but Quinta Brunson went into it feeling pretty confident that her comedy wasn’t going anywhere: she was told that ABC had picked up the series for a fourth season.
While appearing at Deadline’s Contenders TV on Sunday, Brunson — who was joined on stage by Tyler James Williams (Gregory), Chris Perfetti (Jacob) and William Stanford Davis (Mr. Johnson) — recalled how incredible it felt to know that “ABC trusted us” before they even began production on season 3.
The news of the pickup was made public in February at the Television Critics Associaton press tour.
The comedy just wrapped production last week on the third season. Brunson, who plays Janine in the comedy that she created for ABC, said she still marvels at how far her Emmy-winning comedy has come.

“The Curse” has become one of the most talked-about shows this year with its idiosyncratic mix of cringe comedy, weird horror, marital drama, and sentiment proving to be a recipe for brilliance. The acclaimed Showtime drama series follows Nathan Fielder and Oscar winner Emma Stone as a newly married couple who host an HGTV show. They try to conceive a child as they navigate the effects of a curse.
Fielder and Stone’s performances propel the show to greatness and they are ably supported by Benny Safdie, who co-created the show with Fielder. He plays a desperate producer and while the role is scenery-chewing enough, it’s also a great role for filmmaker Safdie to once again show his acting chops, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) proclaimed: “Safdie makes him a behind-the-scenes sorta-psycho who’s as compelling as his on-air compatriots, inhabiting Dougie with a brand...
