Karachi, May 21 (Ians) Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammed Amir has picked Steve Smith over both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, calling him the toughest batsman he has bowled to unlike the Indian duo who he feels are easy pickings.
Amir, who retired from international cricket in December, 2020 after differences with the team management was one of Pakistan's star performers in the 2017 Icc Champions Trophy final, dismissing both Kohli and Sharma early.
"I haven't found it tough bowling to either. In fact, I find it easy to bowl to him (Rohit Sharma). I feel that I can get him out both ways. He struggles against the in-swinger from a left-armer and as well as against the ball that goes away early on. I may say that I find bowling to Virat slightly tougher because he revels in pressure situations, but otherwise I've never found it difficult bowling to either of the two,...

Sydney, May 17 (Ians) Batsman Marnus Labuschagne will not play in Australia's limited overs bilateral series in the West Indies as a 23-player preliminary list for the tour was announced by Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday.
National selector Trevor Hohns said that the logistical complexities of bringing Labuschagne from England, where he is playing for Glamorgan in the County Championship, means that he will have to be dropped from the squad.
"Had we not been in the middle of a global pandemic Marnus would be on this tour as a well-established member and important part of the one-day side. It's an unfortunate circumstance of the many challenges the world is facing right now," said Hohns.
"As it stands, Marnus has the opportunity to continue in County Cricket and T20 games with Glamorgan as we head into the World Cup and home summer," he further said.

Sydney, March 29 (Ians) Australian batting mainstay Steve Smith, who was dethroned as captain following the 'Sandpaper-Gate' scandal in Cape Town Test in March 2018 and was suspended, has said he would be keen to lead the national team again, if given an opportunity.
"I've certainly had a lot of time to think about it and I guess now I've got to a point where if the opportunity did come up again I would be keen. If it was what Cricket Australia (CA) wanted and it was what was best for the team at the time, it's certainly something I would be interested in now, that's for sure," Smith told News Corp.
"I am always going to have to live with Cape Town regardless of whether I lead again or not. It's always there. I've been through all that now. Time keeps moving forward, and I've learnt so much the last few...

New Delhi, Feb 18 (Ians) Delhi Capitals (DC) are "shocked" at getting Steve Smith as cheap as Rs.2.2 crore at an Indian Premier League (Ipl) auction on Thursday, and happy that the Australian batting mainstay would provide "balance" to a team that is yet to win an Ipl title in 13 attempts.
DC reached the final last year but lost to Mumbai Indians.
"It was just incredible to get Steve Smith. We are shocked about how he went only for Rs 2.2 crore, but to get a player of the calibre of Smith, it's going to add a lot to our squad, a lot to our balance -- his leadership, his batting, his experience, everything. Everyone associated with Delhi is just thrilled," DC co-owner Parth Jindal said.

Chennai, Feb 17 (Ians) The Indian Premier League (Ipl) mini-auction on Thursday could see a huge demand for bowlers even as Australian batsmen Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Glenn Maxwell, England's Dawid Malan, all-rounders Chris Morris of South Africa and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan could be the hottest properties.
Smith, the Australian batting mainstay was released by Rajasthan Royals recently after he failed to put up big scores for them. He may, however, find interest from Punjab Kings (Pk), Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr), or Chennai Super Kings (Csk), who all are looking to strengthen their batting.
Labuschagne could also evince interest from the three franchises, especially from Kkr or Csk.
Pk have a heavy purse left with Rs.53.2 crore and they could go in for Smith (base price: Rs 2 crore) or Labuschagne (Rs.1 crore) or both.

Sydney, Feb 6 (Ians) Australia batsman Steve Smith beat Pat Cummins by 12 votes to win the Allan Border Medal, the highest honour in Australian men's cricket.
This is the third time he is winning the prestigious medal. He was pipped by David Warner by one vote last year.
The right-handed batsman made the most runs for Australia across all formats in the voting period with 1,098 at an average of 45.75. The effort was built on four half centuries and four centuries.
"I was a bit surprised. I don't know, I didn't feel like I had the biggest Test summer, which I think holds the most votes. I think my one-day cricket was pretty good last year, so I obviously got a lot of votes there," said Smith after winning the medal.

Sydney, Jan 9 (Ians) While Ravindra Jadeja made waves with his direct hit at the batsman's stumps from deep square-leg to run Steve Smith out in Australia's first innings on Friday.
But his stay at the crease on Saturday saw two India batsmen get run out. Both R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah were run out with Jadeja at the other end.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Jadeja has been involved in run-outs in Test cricket. The all-rounder, who bowls and bats left-handed, has been involved in run-outs 20 times in the 73 Test innings he has played.
He has got his partner run out 13 times out of those 20 while he himself has got run out on seven occasions. The average comes close to 3.5 innings per run-out incident.

Ashwin had dismissed him three out of the previous four times in the series but the Indian spinner ended up wicketless in Australia's first innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
"I decided to be a bit more positive. Early on I hit him over his head, sort of just put a bit of pressure on him to bowl where I wanted him to bowl. It was a concerted effort. And I was happy with the way I played him," Smith told the media after the second day's play.

Sydney, Jan 8 (Ians) Prolific batsman Steve Smith on Friday ended Australia's near four-year drought of centuries against India after scoring 131 in the first innings of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The right-handed batsman was, in fact, the last Australian to score a hundred for his country against India back in 2017 when he made 111 in the first innings of the Dharamsala Test.
Since then the Aussies went 11 completed innings, all in Australia, without a century before Smith himself broke the jinx.
Smith though himself wasn't part of the line-up in seven of those innings during the 2018-19 series as he was serving a ban for his involvement in the ball-tampering row.

Sydney, Jan 5 (Ians) Australia head coach Justin Langer on Tuesday admitted that both David Warner and Steve Smith haven't played enough red-ball cricket over the past one year but he is backing the two to come good in the last two Tests against India by spending time in the middle.
"Davey (David Warner) has played a lot of white-ball cricket, a bit like Steve Smith. He hasn't played any four-day cricket for about 12 months now. That is not even talking about his injury to groin. So that is something we talked about. He is a master of the game, has played a lot of cricket and his experience will help him through that," said Langer.
"He has had a good rehab. He might get a little restricted on the field. He might get in that area a little bit fatigued because he hasn't played Test cricket for a while," he added.

Dubai, Sep 29 (Ians/GloFans) In-form Rajasthan Royals (Rr) will aim for a hat-trick of wins when they square-off against two-time Ipl winners Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) at the Dubai International Cricket stadium here on Wednesday evening.
After defeating Chennai Super Kings (Csk) in their campaign opener, the Steve Smith-led Rr overhauled the highest tournament total of 224 against Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) in their previous match. They are high on confidence as they take another step towards qualifying for the playoffs, though that is a bit far at the moment.
Rr opener Sanju Samson and skipper Smith smashed half-centuries in the game against Kxip. However, with the match slipping away from their hands, Haryana all-rounder Rahul Tewatia's blitzkrieg bought them back in the contest. Once again, all eyes will be on Samson, who has two half-centuries from as many games, and Tewatia, who smashed 53 off 31 balls against Kings XI Punjab.
