The theme of the 2024 Met Gala was “The Garden of Time” — based on a story by J.G. Ballard – but, really, the theme of all Met Galas always has been: Go big or stay home!
While there have been myriad gorgeous gowns, jewels and natty tuxes over many Met Gala years, what do the most dress-obsessed actually remember? Cher half-naked. Lady Gaga’s change of dress performance art. Billy Porter’s royal entrance in Egyptian armor and entourage. Katy Perry as a chandelier. They all proved: It doesn’t pay to stay staid — even if staid means gorgeous.
So the question comes down to: Does one do good outrageous? Or outrageously bad? Both the bad and the beautiful always get the most ink — sometimes, you can’t tell the difference. With such risky looks, it’s a toss of the coin. If you’re Cher, you can pull off anything. Everyone...

Metallics ruled the red carpet at the 2024 Grammys, almost from the very first moment.
Dua Lipa — a double nominee for “Dance the Night” from Barbie The Album — turned up early on the 2024 Grammys red carpet because she was the broadcast’s opening act and immediately set the night’s style tone in a silver-fringed gown by creative director Nicolas di Felice for Courrèges, paired with impressive jewels by Tiffany & Co.
That focus on metals continued in elegant and artful ways. The Grammys have always been the odd duck, fashion-wise, of the awards season, and that’s meant only as a compliment. On music’s biggest night, attendees embrace the essence of artistry and creativity and that extends to their sartorial choices. While other awards shows largely exude elegance and occasionally a splash of grandeur, the Grammys are about exhibiting a musician’s mettle.
That was true of many of the looks that followed,...

On Sunday, supermodel Naomi Campbell had a big moment during Paris Fashion Week.
The only woman to walk the runway for Balmain’s men’s Fall/Winter 2024 show, she closed out the event with a gold headpiece that ran vertically down her face. She also had a golden ornament appeared to connect to a belt around her waist, which featured a bouquet of metallic flowers held by black and gold striped hands.
Campbell also wore a blouse with a deep neckline, black trousers and a dark beige jacket draped on her shoulders.
The collection was designed by Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative executive director, who said he wanted to invoke luxury with all of the looks.
In September, Campbell opened up about previous cocaine addiction, saying that she knew she was “killing herself.”

Monday night’s Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was a bonafide lovefest for Karl Lagerfeld, whose work is showcased in the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, opening Friday.
With some Met Gala themes, the sartorial choices can be a tad all over the place, and decidedly rooted in causing a social-media frenzy. While the latter was certainly true with several looks (hello, Jared Leto), the overall vibe Monday evening was rooted in paying tribute not only to the many, many designs Lagerfeld produced during his six-decade career but also to the elements that defined the man himself and the design codes he happily embraced within the iconic houses he famously oversaw.
Chanel, the gala’s primary sponsor, was the clear winner in that equation, not only in the number of stars dressed by the legendary French house — which included Nicole Kidman,...

Ashley Graham had an incredibly busy time at Milan Fashion Week, and she’s not stopping for a break just yet.
The plus-size model is now at Paris Fashion Week and was seen in the puffiest dress ever while showing off on an ornate balcony.
Ashley looked as if she had been swallowed by tulle as she strutted her stuff in a massive green dress on a Parisian balcony during a photoshoot with filmmaker and photographer Leone.
Ashley looked fierce as she stared at the camera intensely, with the wind blowing her hair back. She later posed on a chair and looked away from the lens out at the stunning French view.
While she was sitting, Ashley’s strappy heels were visible underneath the dress, and she had glamorous makeup to match the occasion.

The 25-year-old attended the Balmain show, a staple for the KarJenner ladies, who enjoy a friendship with creative director Olivier Rousteing.
Kylie wore Balmain to her first Met Gala appearance in 2016, so the designer likely holds a special place in her heart.

Few looks caused a social-media frenzy at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Aug. 28 like the strapless pleated silk gown Lizzo wore, a haute-couture design by Glenn Martens for the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2022 collection — and stylist Brett Alan Nelson was ready for it.
“The carpet dress I have been drooling over since it showed [in January],” Nelson tells The Hollywood Reporter exclusively. “It was a major risk, because both Lizzo and I knew, with the trolls of the internet, the look could be judged in a bad light. But neither of us cared, because it was couture, baby, off the runway. I live for the absurdity of fashion, and that is what we gave: grunge and a bit of rock ‘n’ roll, but glam, glam, glam.” An assortment of Jennifer Fisher earrings, gloves by Los Angeles-based Lael Osness, and boots by New Rock completed the look.

Photo: ‘Wonder Boy’/Netflix In 2011, 24-year-old Olivier Rousteing was announced as Balmain’s new creative director, marking the youngest creator to helm a luxury fashion brand since Yves Saint Laurent himself. Since then, he’s improved the company’s earnings sixfold, proving his place as a growing leader in the fashion industry. But behind the scenes, Rousteing dealt with his own, inexplicable problem he could not solve – where he came from, as an adopted individual given up at birth. ‘Wonder Boy,’ the newest documentary from Netflix and Studio Canal, explores his search for the unknown. On Friday afternoon, Brett Alan Nelson’s stress level had peaked well past 11, thanks to a delayed FedEx delivery. “Because of Covid, shipments have been all over the place,” says the star stylist, who is dressing Lizzo, Doja Cat and Noah Cyrus for Sunday’s 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. “I’ve been on the phone so much, I’m pretty sure FedEx now dreads hearing that Brett Nelson is calling.”
But soon enough a much-anticipated box from Paris arrived, and Lizzo was smiling. “She just lit up when she tried on the first dress, and when she tried on the second one, she ...

When Maluma said 2020 was going to be a "big year" for him, he wasn't exaggerating. The 26-year-old Colombian superstar made the crossover from the Latin market to the mainstream US charts in 2018, and this was the year that revealed the seeds of his labor. Coincidentally enough, 2020 also marked the 10-year anniversary of when he first began recording music. So to say Maluma had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year is a huge understatement.
While the majority of us used our time at home to practice self-care and hone our banana-bread-baking skills (Chrissy Teigen's bundt cake recipe was my personal favorite), Maluma decided to reinvent himself and create an entirely new alter ego named "Papi Juancho." Papi Juancho was a result of Maluma's first campaign with Calvin Klein and his family's nickname for him, which is a play on his real name, Juan Luis Londoño.

Yesterday, the César Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars, were handed out. Taking the top prize, in somewhat of a surprise, was Les Misérables from Ladj Ly. Clearly a top contender for the award, it faced stiff competition from An Officer and a Spy, as well as especially from Portrait of a Lady on Fire. However, France’s submission to the Academy Awards had that upper hand, and in the end, it led the way here. Of course, what was most noteworthy was actress and nominee Adèle Haenel (from Portrait of a Lady on Fire) walked out of the ceremony when it was announced that Roman Polanski had won the Best Director prize for An Officer and a Spy. Her protest made waves throughout the industry, and even thought Polanski was not in attendance, it was a powerful statement, to be sure… Here now are the Cesar Award results: Best Film “La Belle Epoque,...

You can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can perhaps judge a fashion designer by their Instagram account.
This seems to be the case with French wunderkind Olivier Rousteing, who became the creative director of Balmain at age 25 — he was the youngest person to run such a brand since Yves Saint-Laurent — and went on to transform it into a major international player. His fan base includes Kanye West, Rihanna, the Kardashians and an army of “Balmaniacs” who follow his every movement online, where Rousteing constantly posts pics of celebrities and models, or selfies ...

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, back in May 2014. To commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime event on the couple's one-year anniversary, Kim took to Instagram to share some never-before-seen snaps from the day, including new shots from the photo booth and the carriage ride at Versailles in France. Nearly two years ago, the bride wore a Givenchy Haute Couture gown and was walked down the aisle by her stepfather, Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner, while the rest of her family - including sisters Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie and Kendall Jenner - stayed close by as she and Kanye exchanged vows. The ceremony was performed by hot Miami pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., while longtime Kardashian family friend and celebrity event planner Sharon Sacks planned the couple's nuptials.

Frustrated with the lack of diversity and inclusion in the French film industry, 16 black actresses took to the red carpet in Cannes on Wednesday night, staging a protest against racism just days after 82 women, led by Cannes jury president Cate Blanchett, launched their own call for gender equality.
Led by actress Aïssa Maïga (“Bamako”), the group struck a defiant note while promoting a new book, “Noire N’est Pas Mon Métier” (My Profession is Not Black), which Maïga co-authored.
Speaking with Variety, the actress called it “a historic moment” as 16 black women linked arms on the red carpet outside the Palais for the first time. “It was beyond my wildest dreams,” she said. “For 20 years, I’ve been acting, and I’ve never felt like this.
“This was a statement we wanted to make to the entire world.”
The book features candid stories about the prejudice faced by black actresses in the French film industry.
