A notorious and nightmarish “haunted house” in Tennessee has caught the attention of the state’s attorney general after being featured in a Hulu documentary.
Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House centers on McKamey Manor, a torture “tour” about 70 miles outside of Nashville. It merges “documentary storytelling with the visual and cinematic language of a horror film” and follows three participants to “explore why people make themselves vulnerable to harm,” according to Hulu’s synopsis. The film, which hit the streamer on Oct. 12, was in Hulu’s newly-launched Top 15 each day for the first week following its release.
It’s also caught the attention of state’s attorney general — which is something director Andrew Renzi tells THR he didn’t see coming. “It definitely came as a shock that there was actually law enforcement taking notice,” Renzi says, adding that he knows people who felt “victimized” by the...

Tennessee’s Attorney General has shared, ahem, grave concerns about a haunted attraction that was the subject of the recent Hulu documentary Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House.
In a Halloween post on X, the Ag’s office revealed that it has sent a letter to Russ McKamey’s McKamey Manor in Summertown, Tn to look into the “business practices in operating its ‘extreme haunted attraction.’ This office continues to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all Tennesseans.”
The office also sent a letter to McKamey, obtained by The Tennessean, that says the tour does not offer visitors a way out, and that they don’t have access to the lengthy waiver which warns of multiple risks. The letter includes this quote from McKamey in the doc: “we’re known for no quitting and no safe wording.”
The attraction’s website claims the experience involves “intense audio, lighting, extreme low visibility,...

People have different ideas of having fun, and they are free to explore them as they want. But sometimes, unknowingly, they cross the line and start doing things that are not morally correct. Now, where that line lies can be subjective, and people have the freedom to do what they wish to do in life, but seeing some people pay to get tortured physically and psychologically is beyond our understanding. Unfortunately, that’s the horrific reality of America’s most haunted horror house, “McKamey Manor,” run by the former Navy officer, Russ McKamey, the founder of this cult slash haunted house attraction. Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House, a Hulu original documentary film, showcases the disturbing truth of this haunted house attraction, inviting people in and then torturing them inhumanely. The real-life footage of these participants being tortured was violent, scary, and unwatchable, especially when the disclaimer appeared on the screen,...

Exclusive: Hulu is preparing to launch a documentary film about McKamey Manor, widely regarded as the world’s most haunted house. Scroll to the bottom for a trailer.
Cash Cab producer Lion Television US is behind Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House, which will launch next week as part of Hulu’s Halloween Season and follows the story of Russ McKamey, the Navy Veteran turned master of horror who invites adrenaline junkies to the house and puts them through their paces to the extreme.
McKamey opened the manor to satiate his love of Halloween but it grew in popularity and obtained a social media profile, as the owner gained notoriety. It has, however, attracted controversy, with one participant saying she repeated her safeword for several minutes before employees stopped torturing her, while the police have been called to the manor on several occasions by locals.

Earlier this morning, our friends at Bloody Disgusting unveiled the trailer for the upcoming documentary Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House, which is set to start streaming on the Hulu service on October 12th. Now you can watch the trailer in the embed above!
The “haunted house” in question is McKamey Manor, which is set up in Tennessee and operates year-round, offering guests an experience that can last up to eight hours. As Wikipedia explains, “Guests must sign a liability waiver to participate. Items on the waiver include the inability to leave the experience without the staff’s permission and being subjected to various forms of physical and psychological torture, including having bones broken, teeth removed without anesthesia, and being drugged.” So this is neither my idea of a “haunted house”, nor a place I would ever step foot in.

How extreme is *too* extreme for the haunted house experience? Hulu explores that question in their original documentary Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House.
The upcoming Huluween Original Documentary tells the story of Russ McKamey, creator of the world’s “most extreme haunted house,” known as McKamey Manor.
According to three people who realize the horror is never over once you decide to enter the Manor, Russ McKamey is also a manipulative monster. The doc seeks to expose the truth.

Even though Fantastic Fest 2017 was held just a few weeks ago, this writer is still playing catch up after screening nearly 20 different films during my time in Austin. On the docket for today’s review round-up is a documentary celebrating haunted attractions—Haunters: The Art of the Scare—a stunning zombie/road film from Quebec—Les Affamés—and my very favorite film from Fantastic Fest, a zombie-centric Christmas musical called Anna and the Apocalypse.
Haunters: The Art of the Scare: I’m a big fan of documentaries, and I’m a big fan of haunted attractions, which is why I think I enjoyed Haunters: The Art of the Scare, even if it does venture off-topic quite a bit. The title insinuates that filmmaker Jon Schnitzer is looking to do a deep dive into the psychology of scaring people, and just how to set up the perfect scare. And while...

As a self-proclaimed horror convert (once afraid, now slightly less afraid), I find myself constantly drawn to documentaries like Haunters: The Art Of The Scare. Why spend money to be terrified, shocked and psychologically broken? Answer: because there’s no more euphoric high than true, adrenaline-laced fear. Coming face-to-face with the reaper and “surviving” a walk through obstacle courses of graveyard designs. Filmmaker Jon Schnitzer dives into this world of “haunts” to explore why artists devote their lives Halloween, how fear has evolved, and, most importantly, the extremes that now pervert a once-safe formula.
Schnitzer’s intention with Haunters: The Are Of The Scare is to span the countless types of October houses being erected each season. There’s newlywed Donald Julson and his Nightmare on Loganberry, violator Russ McKamey and McKamey Manor, thematic-to-extremist scare actor Shar Mayer – the list rattles on. Everyone has their idea of what a good...

One of my favorite things to do during the Halloween season is to go to haunted houses, spook alleys, and haunted mazes. I just have a ton of fun at these things, especially the independent ones outside of the big theme park haunted attractions.
I've found that with the independent Halloween horror experiences, they put a lot more heart and grit into the haunted houses that they set up. Today we have a trailer for a documentary that focuses on these hardcore Halloween fans. It's called Haunter: The Art of the Scare and it puts a major focus on some of the most extreme scare experiences, where they simulate peoples fears in the most crazy and intense ways. Here's the synopsis:
Haunters: The Art Of The Scare is a heart-warming and heart-stopping documentary about how family-friendly haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme horror simulations. What...
