Hugo Gernsback was born on 16 August 1884 in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. He was married to Mary Hancher, Dorothy Kantrowitz and Rose Harvey. He died on 19 August 1967 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.
He is sometimes called the "father of science fiction", though he was not a notable writer; he gave the new genre its name in the 1920s, when he published pulp magazines like Amazing Stories and Science Wonder Stories.
