This article contains spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man #1.
We all know the story of Peter Parker, right? After the death/disappearance of his parents, Peter was raised by his kindly Aunt May and Uncle Ben, who gave him a happy life, despite the constant bullying he endured at school. After a bite from a radioactive spider gave him superpowers, Peter made one selfish choice that cost the life of his Uncle. As a result, Peter has spent the rest of his life as Spider-Man, living up to Uncle Ben’s teaching that with great power comes great responsibility.
At least, that’s how it is in most universes, including the original Ultimate Universe from the comics. But with a revamped Ultimate Universe returning to Marvel Comics, courtesy of writer Jonathan Hickman, Peter has undergone a significant change.

Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 had a lot of conceptual promise and so-so execution. Seeing the promise of the multiverse fulfilled via a highly imaginative animated anthology series was exciting, yet the art style and animation left a lot to be desired.
For season 2, Marvel doubled down on the zaniness of the concept, serving up even wilder stories and visuals. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /FIlm, season 2 is "a zany, refreshing mix of stories." There's a "Wild Races" episode, a "Die Hard" homage, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic book story "Marvel 1602," and even an episode about a new hero named Kahhori, a First Nations woman of the Mohawk tribe.
Then there's the episode that almost was -- one that was deemed too dark for "What If...?" season 2. Speaking with IGN, head writer and creator A.C. Bradley talked about how the second season of the show was...

Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) will star in the Broadway premiere of Amy Herzog’s Mary Jane in a spring production directed by Anne Kauffman (The Sign in Sydney Brustein’s Window).
The play, produced by Manhattan Theatre Club, will begin previews on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The production will mark McAdams’ Broadway debut.
Mtc describes the play as “the story of a single mother in an impossible family situation.”

Over the years many royal fans have opined that Princess Charlotte looks a lot like Princess Diana and even pointed out facial expressions and gestures the little princess makes that are reminiscent of her grandmother. Now a video circulating online shows something in the way Charlotte walks that some are calling “identical” to the late princess.

Jenny Lewis’s fifth studio album, Joy’All, is an endearing snapshot of the singer-songwriter’s casual, openhearted Cali-bohemian ethos, with easy, blithe hooks to match. Lewis tapped seemingly ubiquitous Nashville producer Dave Cobb to helm the album, but despite some sweet pedal steel here and there, she hasn’t gone country—or, for that matter, yacht rock, a term some inexplicably use to describe lead single “Puppy and a Truck” when it first dropped in 2021.
Lewis’s influences remain eclectic enough, from ’70s folk-rock on “Apples and Oranges” to sultry R&b on “Giddy Up.” Cobb never lets these songs stray too far from his usual easygoing, acoustic-based zone, somewhat blunting the album’s range. But Lewis still manages to push herself into new territory, committing to sunny melodicism with an unapologetic zeal that suggests her unlikely stint opening for Harry Styles in 2021 may have influenced her as much as working with Cobb.

The unofficial trinity of superhero fiction—Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman—has always been represented in the best way possible in the animated adaptations of their adventures. Therefore, when the Disney-Sony dispute regarding the rights of Spider-Man was at its peak, which resulted in a number of mediocre to okayish entries of the character in live action to lukewarm audience response, a course correction became necessary to rejuvenate the hype around the webcrawler. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, released in 2018, managed to do just that and more, as the visual brilliance of a multiverse of Spideys took the pop culture world by storm and brought the rich legacy of the character to the forefront—something that has deserved to be explored for a long time. Five long years later, the sequel to the brilliant first entry is about to release worldwide, and it’d be wise to keep track of past...

In 1940, Mlj Publishers had a problem. Their standout artist Jack Cole (best known as the creator of Plastic Man) had left the company, abandoning the hit series Pep Comics and its star the Comet. Without Cole’s pencils, the Comet didn’t pop in the same way, and the company needed something drastic to save its sales. So in Pep Comics #17, a thug guns the Comet down, inspiring his brother to become a new hero called the Hangman.
The first superhero death in comic books set the trend for all that followed. Pep killed off the Comet not for any story reason, but because they wanted to goose sales. And not only does his death launch another hero, but he doesn’t stay dead for good — Mlj (now Archie Comics) brought back the Comet in the 1960s and the 1980s, eventually licensing him to DC Comics.

After Spider-Man: Homecoming offered a very fresh take on the wallcrawler’s mythos, it only makes sense that the sequel would add its own unique interpretations of classic Spider-Man supporting characters, as well. A week ago, for instance, word arrived that Gwen Stacy, one of Peter Parker’s most iconic love interests, would be joining the McU in the follow-up. The twist is, though, that the character will be portrayed as a high school exchange student.
Now, a second piece of evidence has arrived that further supports Gwen’s inclusion in Homecoming 2. Following on from an audition tape from a young French actress hoping to play the part, another has appeared online from Iris Haller, who was born in Luxembourg. Her audition was shared on Vimeo, with comments suggesting she’s responding to a call from agents for European actresses to try out for Gwen.

It’s virtually impossible to limit year-end lists to 10 or 20 shows, so it’s literally impossible to include all the great performances from 2017 on one list. But IndieWire has done our best, wading through the hundreds of award-worthy turns from veteran actors and TV newbies to find the best performances this year.
These actors accomplished something special: They elevated their shows even when it seemed like the series couldn’t go any higher. They found surprising depths within the writers’ words and surprised directors with keen insights into their characters. They made us laugh, cry, jump for joy, and scream in frustration. Their precision in understanding who they played helped evoke passion in the audience watching.
We will not soon forget, and if you haven’t yet seen some of these fine thespians go to work, make sure to make the time. There may be a lot of television out there,...

The Golden Globes are traditionally TV’s awards disrupters. With so many new shows nominated, it elevates them long enough to (potentially) make a difference at the Emmys. But the SAG Awards are a more telling barometer of industry enthusiasm.
Actors make up a large chunk of the TV Academy membership — much more so than the 80-odd members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — which means seeing what they’re rewarding in December can often predict what might be a player when Emmy season begins next spring.
With so many shows launching in April to take advantage of Emmy voting, series that premiere in the fall need Globes and SAG Awards love to keep buzz alive through the winter and into the spring. Shows like “The Deuce,” “Glow,” “Ozark,” “Mindhunter,” “Godless,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and “Smilf” are aiming for a little extra attention right now.

As great as Spider-Man: Homecoming was, and it really was an excellent film and the perfect first solo outing for the iconic character in the McU, it did leave out a few key elements of Peter Parker’s story. Among the many things that were omitted was probably his most well known love interest: Gwen Stacy.
Granted, we had just seen Emma Stone bring the character to life in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, and with Marvel wanting to do something fresh and different for Homecoming, it makes sense that they didn’t head down that path. However, Stacy is a hugely important character and the studio clearly knows that, which is why they’re now planning to introduce her in the currently untitled sequel.
According to a report from Omega Underground, an audition tape has surfaced which shows a French actress auditioning for the role. This would seem to indicate...

Best Drama Series “The Crown” “The Deuce” “The Handmaid’s Tale” “Game of Thrones” “Stranger Things”

Not only could “This Is Us” very easily land its second straight nod for Best Drama Series, but series like “Mindhunter,” “The Good Doctor,” “Ozark,” “Mr. Robot,” “Better Call Saul,” and, yes, even “The Leftovers” could find their way into the final five. The Golden Globes like spotlighting new series, which benefits shows like “Mindhunter” and “Ozark” which haven’t been crowned by other awards shows just yet. These days, it'd be tough to find a TV wit drier than that of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Heather Davis. The actress who plays the perpetual community college student, however, is anything but. Bright and bubbly, Vella Lovell is genuinely delighted to talk about everything from the Kardashian sisters' pregnancies to Mary Jane, the play she starred in at the Yale Repertory Theatre over the CW musical comedy's hiatus.
After more than two years of playing such an acerbic character, the 32-year-old actress is also eager to analyze just what makes Heather tick, especially since we'll be seeing more of her than ever this season.
Et chatted with Lovell at the end of September, when the cast was in the middle of filming season three's eighth episode, and she opened up about Heather's big musical numbers, the diversity on set and yes, all of that revenge she's helping Rebecca Bunch dish out to Josh Chan.

John Carpenter’s musical legacy is nearly as revered for his music as he is for his movies, not least because the two are intertwined. Rock star Tom Petty, who died Monday at 66, left behind a legacy of songs that reached inside and stirred the soul with a combination of frustration, wistfulness, rebellion, cynicism, elation, and restlessness. But Petty also might be remembered for some of the most iconic music videos of the 1980s — the heyday of MTV and VH1 as TV jukeboxes.
Petty’s landmark work included 1985’s psychedelic “Don’t Come Around Here No More, and The Atlantic digs in pretty deep into the backstory to how the song and video came about, which was inspired by an encounter between the Eurythmic’s Dave Stewart and Stevie Nicks.

One of the best things about Spider-Man: Homecoming was that, for once, it was an McU movie that delivered a pretty awesome villain. Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes Aka the Vulture had more dimensions to him than the average antagonist. For instance, a late-in-the-day twist revealed that he was the father of Peter’s girlfriend Liz. As Spidey was forced to take him down, Toomes was jailed, which turned Liz’s life upside down and seemed to leave her burgeoning relationship with Peter in tatters.
We didn’t get too much of Liz’s reaction to her father’s imprisonment in the movie, but it seems there was originally a scene which featured the character visiting Toomes in prison. During a Tumblr Q&A, Laura Harrier dropped a few details about her favourite deleted sequence from Homecoming:

Amy Herzog’s “Mary Jane” is a character study of an extraordinary woman — the single mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old son with cerebral palsy — that resists every temptation to veer into sentimentality or histrionics. Buoyed by a radiant performance by “Fargo” and “The Leftovers” star Carrie Coon, “Mary Jane” emerges as a sharply observed character study of a woman who is heroic in the ordeal she faces down and in her forthright, almost chipper attitude — and who would shrug off the label “heroic” it it were uttered in her presence anyway. Director Anne Kauffman’s skillful production, which opened at Off.
