Goodbye, The Lazarus Project. Unless a mysterious sci-fi organisation steps in to reset time to before Sky chose to cancel the mind-bending time travel drama, that’s our lot. After airing two seasons, they won’t be making a third.
The news was first announced in The Sun, and later confirmed by trustworthy outlets including TV Zone and RadioTimes.com. It had previously been rumoured that if season three were to go ahead, creator Joe Barton would be stepping back to a producer role and welcoming in new writers, who would have to do without some of the major cast members including Tom Burke. Now, that won’t happen because season two will be the last.
Barton posted the cancellation news on social media, along with a meme featuring a woman and a child wearing matching denim jackets throwing confetti in the air, along with the words “Don’t cry because it’s over,...

Warning: contains major spoilers for The Lazarus Project series one.
The new series of The Lazarus Project on Sky does not mess about. Episode one plunges viewers straight back into the action and expects them to keep up with George and the gang’s time travel twists. The last time we saw them, they were stuck in a constantly repeating three-week loop caused by a collapsing-in-on-itself black hole and everybody was losing their sanity. As series two introduces more time travel to the plot, things only get more complicated.
If your memory of all that needs a little refresher on what everybody was up to the last time we saw them, with series one spoilers ahead, read on.
The Very Short Version: Resets, Time Loops & 2012

TNT Acquires British Thriller Series ‘Lazarus Project’ as New Scripted Strategy Begins to Take Shape
TNT has acquired the U.S. rights to the British action thriller series “The Lazarus Project,” Warner Bros. Discovery has announced.
The series debuted in the U.K. in June 2022 and was renewed for a second season in August. TNT plans to air the eight-episode first season in early 2023.
“We have a robust slate of exciting new projects in development to give the large, engaged TNT audience a reason to tune-in night after night,” said Kathleen Finch, chairman and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Discovery’s US Networks Group. “Acquiring the U.S. rights to ‘The Lazarus Project,’ a series that already has a strong following in the UK, gave us a runway to reset TNT’s scripted and unscripted development filters and quickly deliver fresh content for fans of big, scripted drama.”

TNT is looking to a British drama series – The Lazarus Project – to plug its scripted gap as Kathleen Finch maintains that the cable network remains in the scripted business.
Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, US Networks Group for Warner Bros. Discovery, said that the acquisition of the Sky series “gave us a runway to reset TNT’s scripted and unscripted development filters and quickly deliver fresh content for fans of big, scripted drama”.
The Lazarus Project, which launched in the UK in August, comes from Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton and stars I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu.
It marks the first new scripted drama to appear on TNT since the April 2022 merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery and comes after the T-Nets killed series such as Kill The Orange-Faced Bear and ended Snowpiercer and Chad.

“We are thrilled at the success of series one and at Sky’s recommission,” said Barton. “We have bold and ambitious plans for series two which will reunite all our characters in more thrilling and mind-bending adventures.”

This The Lazarus Project review is spoiler-free and based on episodes one to four of eight.
With its top-secret organisation, globe-trotting car chases, shoot-outs, time-loops and kick-ass agents saving the world, The Lazarus Project may sound like the stuff of James Bond or Fox TV, but this Sky series is no escapist romp. Instead of distracting from the world’s problems, it brings them into focus: Pandemics. Wars. Nuclear annihilation. The quiet parade of continual threats to mortal life that make collapsing into bed at the end of each day a victory if you only let yourself think about it…
App designer George Addo (Paapa Essiedu) until now, has never let himself think about it. He’s an easy-going plodder who shares a flat with girlfriend Sarah (Charly Clive) and, were he not the lead character in this ambitious series, would likely contentedly tick off life’s milestones until his final breath.

Pete (Tom Stourton) is ready to leave his youthful indulgences behind and settle down with his girlfriend, Sonia (Charly Clive). When his uni friends invite him for a country weekend away to celebrate his birthday, he finds their immature ways haven’t changed. And he’s baffled by their spontaneous invitation to a feral stranger from the local pub to join them. With the atmosphere turning from tense to terrifying to surreal, Pete reaches breaking point. Is he being punished? Is he being paranoid? Or is he just part of some sick joke?
Directed by BAFTA-nominated Andrew Gaynord (Stath Lets Flats), the film also stars Dustin Demri-Burns, Joshua McGuire, Georgina Campbell, Graham Dickson, and Christopher Fairbank, Antonia Clarke and Kieran Hodgson.

Pete (Tom Stourton) hasn’t seen his university mates in years. Ten years to be exact. It happens. Life happens. We reach adulthood, mature, and set goals for ourselves that the people who were closest to us during that formidable period simply cannot follow—their own ambitions lie upon different forks in the road. So resentment shouldn’t factor in. Nor should jealousy. Yet Pete can’t help wondering about both. A little voice in the back of his head wonders if a decade was too long to pretend things could pick up where they left off. Would their very posh upbringing think he abandoned them to work with refugees? Do they think he thinks he’s better than them for doing it? What if he thinks that?
To say this character is racked with anxiety undersells the truth that he’s ready to blow a gasket thanks to swirling paranoia,...

"Everyone's being mean, and I don't know what's going on..." Super Ltd has revealed an official trailer for a UK horror comedy film titled All My Friends Hate Me, marking the feature debut of director Andrew Gaynord. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and stopped by the London Film Festival in the fall. Pete is cautiously excited about reuniting with his college crew for a birthday weekend. But, one by one, his friends slowly turn against him. Is he being punished, or is he paranoid, or is he part of some sick joke? From co-writers Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer comes this dark comedy-horror mash-up for anyone who's ever experienced social anxiety and lived to tell about it. Terrifying! Tom Stourton stars along with Georgina Campbell, Joshua McGuire, Antonia Clarke, Charly Clive, Kieran Hodgson, Dustin Demri-Burns, Christopher Fairbank, and Graham Dickson. This looks utterly horrifying - have fun.

Sky has revealed a first look trailer for new Sky Original drama ‘The Lazarus Project,’ a riveting and gripping 8-part action thriller from acclaimed writer Joe Barton.
When George (Essiedu) wakes up one day and finds himself reliving a day from months ago, he thinks he’s lost his mind. All of his recent milestones have been undone, including his success at work and his marriage to the love of his life Sarah (Clive). Worst of all, he seems to be the only one who has noticed what’s happened.
That is until he meets Archie (Mohindra), who recruits George for the Lazarus Project – a secret organisation that has harnessed the ability to turn back time every time the world is at threat of extinction. Like George, those who work at Lazarus are the few people on earth with the ability to remember the events that are undone when time goes back.

Imagine the protagonist of a Richard Curtis film woke up on the morning of whichever wedding or funeral they were to attend, suddenly cursed with self-awareness. The resulting movie, a comedy that elicits such bone-deep cringe it’s indistinguishable from horror, might look a lot like Andrew Gaynord’s “All My Friends Hate Me,” a ferociously witty, deeply British evisceration of upper-class Millennial anxiety, dedicated to the truism that if you can’t spot the asshole in any group of five or more people, the asshole is you.

After a Covid-induced hiatus, Tribeca Festival returns with in-person premieres and an exciting mix of studio productions and low-fi indies. The festival has ditched the word “film” from its title in order to emphasize the fact that Tribeca now encompasses podcasting, gaming, TV and so much more. But who are they kidding? For most New Yorkers, it’s all about the movies. With that in mind, here are 11 films that should be on every festival-goer’s must-see list.
12 Mighty Orphans
Director: Ty Roberts
Cast: Luke Wilson, Vinessa Shaw, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Wayne Knight, Jake Austin Walker
Meet your next uplifting sports drama. In the tradition of “Rudy” or “Hoosiers” comes “12 Mighty Orphans,” the story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who became unlikely Texas state championship contenders. In the process, their plucky come-from-nowhere run inspired a country reeling from the Great Depression.

BBC Three Comedy Pilots Includes Latest Female-Led Project From ‘Fleabag’ Producer Two Brothers Pics
BBC Three has revealed a slate of four Comedy Slices pilots, which include Dinosaur, the latest female-led project from Fleabag producer Two Brothers Pictures.
The 22-minute comedy is written by Elizabeth McGovern and Simon Curtis’ daughter, Matilda Curtis, and centers on Ashley Storrie-portrayed Nina, an autistic woman who has never sought any kind of diagnosis.
Nina’s always felt a little different from other people but she finds happiness in the world thanks to her passion for paleontology and her friendship with her bubbly younger sister Evie. However, when Evie asks Nina to be her maid of honor, Nina decides to step out of her comfort zone with a challenge: to find herself a date to bring to the wedding.
Dinosaur is executive produced by Harry Williams and Jack Williams, who will be hoping to repeat the Emmy-winning success of Fleabag. The show is one of three other female-led comedies unveiled by the BBC.

In the months since HBO Max launched, a majority of the attention given to the platform has centered on what’s available. That has often meant sifting through the vast HBO Max library, mainly the relative strength of its haul of animation, classic film, and comics-centered offerings.
Amidst all of the questions about what films might make the jump from theatrical to streaming, the HBO Max Originals brand has included a handful of TV series as well. Throughout “Pure,” Marnie keeps telling herself there’s something wrong with her. Regardless of the situation — a family gathering, a crowded Tube car, or alone in her rented walk-in closet — certain thoughts keep winding their way into her consciousness.
Even though “Pure” chooses an effective way to show how Marnie (played by Charly Clive) is beset by her own imagination — subliminal flashes of face-licking, wayward fingers, and strangers in throes — it’s a compelling series just as much for the rest of her story. In showing one woman’s tumultuous first few weeks in a new city, “Pure” is a solid case study in how to build a show from scratch.
The audience gets dropped in right in from the outset, starting with Marnie (a relatively recent college grad) already midway through an excursion to distance herself from the small Scottish town. After a disastrous anniversary for her parents — her...

The year 2019 was a particularly good year for Brits in Hollywood, culminating in half of the Primetime Emmys heading to the other side of the pond with the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Succession creator Jesse Armstrong winning big.
British and Irish writers have always done well in the U.S. both in television and on the feature side, but the last few years have been particularly kind to those making the 6,000-mile trek to Tinseltown, from The Mentalist and Gotham’s Bruno Heller to Saving Mr Banks and Terra Nova writer Kelly Marcel and Catastrophe co-creator Sharon Horgan.
As such, Deadline is taking a look at the next generation of British and Irish writers who are making waves in the UK and stand a good chance of landing a hit U.S. series.
