David Keyte(I)
He's the ex-miner from Mapperley who went on to work with Paul Smith in Paris. Now David Keyte has launched his own fashion collection, inspired by his working-class background, and it's proving a global hit.
David Keyte spent his youth working on the coalface - literally - as a miner in a South Derbyshire pit.
After being lifted to the surface, he'd scrub down and then put his glad rags on.
Over 30 years down the line, David is infusing fashion with a dose of working men's culture via a hugely successful menswear range he launched last year.
His brand Universal Works - is being sold in Bloomingdales, in New York, Fenwicks on Bond Street, and numerous stores throughout the UK and Europe with plans advancing for Japan. Universal Works has two stores in London.
His designs use hard-wearing fabrics like canvas and cotton drill.
