After catching the new Disney+ original movie The One and Only Ivan, it's safe to say we're all left with quite a few questions. The unforgettable film, based on the bestselling 2012 book of the same name, traces Ivan, a silverback gorilla who has lived for years in a suburban shopping mall called Big Top. His friends include Stella the elephant, Bob the dog, Murphy the rabbit, and Frankie the paranoid sea lion. They live a monotonous life until the arrival of a new animal to the circus, a baby elephant named Ruby, who brings back memories for Ivan of his young life in the jungle. Memories of how he was captured, and questions about his life, come rushing in, leading him to try to find who he was and who he wants to be. But how much of this tug-on-the-old-heartstrings story is real? In short, a lot more than you would think!

A few weeks back it was our pleasure to attend the press conference for Disney’s brand new movie The One and Only Ivan – the movie based on the hugely popular book by Katherine Applegate.
Attending the press conference were a raft of movie acting legends including Bryan Cranston (“Mack”), Sam Rockwell (“Ivan”), Angelina Jolie (“Stella”), Danny DeVito (“Bob the dog”), Helen Mirren (“Snickers the poodle”), Brooklynn Prince (“Ruby”), Chaka Khan (“Henrietta the chicken”), Mike White (“Frankie the seal” / screenwriter), Phillipa Soo (“Thelma the parrot”) and Ron Funchess (“Murphy the rabbit”) and Thea Sharrock (director).
During the super fun press conference, the cast talked about how they channelled their artsy side, Angelina Jolie and Brooklynn Prince talk about dressing up as elephants and bringing their characters to life while the rest talk about creating something so fresh and new and the wonder of working on such a great project. Disney has moved its animal adventure movie “The One and Only Ivan,” with a voice cast that includes Sam Rockwell and Angelina Jolie, out of theaters and onto its Disney Plus streaming service on Aug. 21.
The studio announced the shift Friday — the same day that it began streaming “Artemis Fowl,” which was also originally intended to be a theatrical release.
“The world has changed in a heartbeat. People all over the globe have shared important, life changing experiences in ways we have not seen for a century,” said the film’s director, Thea Sharrock, in a statement. “In response to this, I am so happy that we can share Katherine Applegate’s delightful and original story, ‘The One and Only Ivan’ with the world this August on Disney Plus, bringing some joy through this unique movie of true friendship, inspired by a true story.”
