Harry Potter movies made many changes compared to books, both necessary and not. Some of them added wholesome scenes; others butchered character arcs… But one unfaithful creative decision in the final movie defeated the point and message of the entire franchise for the sake of cool CGI effects, and even 13 years later, avid Potterheads still can’t get over it.
Harry Potter Finale Reveals the Truth
Throughout the entire series, Lord Voldemort’s persona is being gradually demystified. In the first part, he’s a mysterious Dark force whose very name still instills terror in everyone’s hearts; by the time of the Battle of the Ministry, he’s more of an immensely powerful psychotic evil mastermind keen on wreaking havoc; but it’s the finale of the Harry Potter series that finally shows Voldemort’s real self.

Ramsay Bolton, the psychopathic ‘Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North’ has been deeply despised by audiences since his first appearance on Game of Thrones. Well, the actor behind the role, Iwan Rheon, certainly deserves all the credit for evoking the strongest feeling of hatred in viewers’ hearts for his character.

By the notorious Game of Thrones finale, few OGs remained around. The Tyrells, the Targaryens, the Martells, the Bolton, the Freys, and many others essentially went extinct and lost everything. The Lannisters, the Baratheons, and the Starks lost almost all their heirs save for the most unlikely ones. Many Great and small Houses fell to never rise again, with new dynasties coming to take their places.
But one unlikely Great House managed to sit out all the danger, and its lord didn’t lose anything; in fact, he gained much more than he had at the start of the story.
House Arryn Started the Chaos in Westeros
If we pretend to ignore Petyr Baelish’s active participation in these events for a second, it was Jon Arryn, Robert Baratheon’s Hand of the King, who started the entire ordeal that led to the War of the Five Kings. Jon Arryn...

England in 1536, a time when King Henry VIII started beefing with the Catholic Church because divorce was a hard ask even for a King back then. Jokes aside, the age of Reformation brought a whole lot of changes to the country, and big and powerful monasteries got the worst end of the bargain. Based on C. J. Sansom’s series of epic historical fiction novels, Arthur Hughes is Matthew Shardlake, a king’s emissary who must ensure the dissolution of Saint Donatus.

Why does Lord Cromwell send Shardlake to Scarnsea?
Lord Cromwell receives a letter from the monastery informing him that his commissioner, Robin Singleton, has been murdered in the kitchen of Saint Donatus. Cromwell’s advisor Jack Barak suggests that an investigation must follow, and he seeks the hunchback lawyer Matthew Shardlake to go to Scarnsea and find out what happened to Singleton. Ring the dressing gong because it’s time to change... shows, that is. With Downton Abbey taking its final bow on Netflix on May 31, it’s time to bid adieu to the Crawley family and their downstairs staff. Spanning some 13 years, from 1912 to 1925, Downton Abbey’s six seasons are set against a backdrop of massive social upheaval in Great Britain. When the series begins, the biggest concern of Lord and Lady Crawley (Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern) — aka the Earl and Countess of Grantham — is whether their eldest daughter, Mary (Michelle Dockery), will marry her distant cousin (Dan Stevens), whom fate has chosen as heir to the Grantham estate. Fast-forward through a world war, Spanish flu, the dawn of the Jazz Age, and several near-bankruptcies, and the world has changed far more than Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) may care to admit. Hemlines are shorter, footmen are a...

Allow me to start with a personal note. I consider the late James Clavell one of the best authors of all time, with his Asian Saga novels in particular being a series of truly masterful works. His combination of historical events (if somewhat altered) with the presentation of the social, cultural, political and financial context of the areas the books take place in is truly astonishing to read. Even more so, his writing is completely clean-cut without the usual, unnecessarily long descriptions and utterly useless scenes of dreams etc, with every word counting throughout his work. It is also a true pleasure to say that the creators of the new “Shogun” have managed to capture all these traits in a truly impressive production.
It is also worth stating that John Blackthorne, the protagonist here is loosely based on the on the historical English navigator William Adams, who came to Japan...

Jill Duggar is dealing with a heartbreaking loss, and sharing it with her followers hasn’t always been met with kindness.
The Counting On star and her husband, Derick Dillard, revealed they suffered the loss of their daughter, Isla Marie Dillard. They had not announced their pregnancy, so sharing the news was shocking.
However, as Jill continued to share more about their loss, followers began to push back and called the constant sharing “disturbing.”
There was a funeral held for Isla Marie. Jill shared photos of the graveside service, a photo of the casket their daughter was laid to rest in, and some of the things the family did, including a balloon release.
Over the last few weeks, Jill has shared much about Isla Marie, including the baby bump photos she took before learning her daughter had died.
Despite the backlash, Jill continues to share photos she had taken or took herself.

After nearly 90 years, Universal has decided to reintroduce one of their oldest monsters, Dracula’s daughter, with their latest horror film, Abigail. The original 1936 film, Dracula’s Daughter, was a direct sequel to the 1931 Dracula and second in the series with the third being 1943’s Son of Dracula.
Abigail takes the basic idea of the spawn of the rapine of darkness but changes it in many ways. First, the character’s name is now Abigail, while the original was Countess Marya Zaleska. Second, Abigail is portrayed as a little girl, while in the original, she appears to be a grown woman. Third, the film is far more violent and gory, while the original was more about suspense and atmosphere.
But how does this interpretation hold up? Is it a worthy reimagining of the classic tale? Let’s sink our teeth in and find out.

Akira Toriyama’s Goku is undoubtedly the most famous anime character ever. The character is the most unique protagonist as the character has dedicated his life to constantly breaking past his limits and coming out with a new transformation when all hope seems to be lost. While power is one of the defining traits of the hero, his pure acts of kindness, selflessness, and dedication, make him different and have helped him remain on top of the popularity list for several decades.
Goku in Dragon Ball Z
While Kakarot is known for his character, his most iconic trait is how Toriyama-Sensei featured transformations as a key part of the series, adding the next steps in Saiyan’s journey. While Ssj forms were Kakrot’s iconic trait, the mangaka was tired of making him look too macho. As a result, he decided to give him a new form sick of making our hero too manly.

James Clavell‘s 1975 historical novel of the same name is the basis for Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks‘ “Shōgun,” and it makes for exquisite television. Set at the end of the 16th century in Japan, the FX limited series follows several factions in the five Regents all vying for control and power. Intricate world-building and political machinations combine to make “Shōgun” the next “Game of Thrones.” What the two shows also have in common is a collection of superb performances from their extensive casts. Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Cosmo Jarvis lead the way in the show’s leading performances but several supporting players could also be up for an Emmy nomination, including Takehiro Hira.
Hira plays Ishido Kazunari, a former peasant who has now become a powerful bushō (a warlord). Kazunari takes charge of one of the five Regents and is the main rival of Sanada’s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.

In March, Trump launched a Maga-based Bible that included lyrics to “God Bless the U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood, the United States Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and other notable American documents. Trump’s Maga Bible was widely mocked by both sides online, including a segment on Saturday Night Live.
In his sermon at the Central Church of North Carolina, evangelical Pastor Loran Livingston shared his thoughts on Trump’s new product. A Livingston video was shared with TikTok and X, where it went viral for his heated words.
“No, no. It’s disgusting! It’s blasphemous! It’s a ploy! Are you kidding me? Some of you are so encouraged by that. Let me tell you something. The gospel is not an American gospel. It is the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!”

One of the best and most devastating moments in "Star Wars" is Order 66 in "Revenge of the Sith." To close out the Clone Wars, the clone troopers that have fought beside the Jedi turn and shoot their commanders in the back, on orders from Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.
The most memorable death is Jedi Aayla Secura on the jungle planet Felucia, shot in the back by Clone Commander Bly and his brothers-in-arms. In one draft of the script (but not the finished film), Aayla is scouting for enemy droids and asking Bly for his input before he shoots, emphasizing her being taken by surprise. The Felucia scene would also feature Bly and the clones fragging Jedi Barriss Offee, but this was deleted, so the "Clone Wars" and "Tales of the Jedi" cartoons took that character in another direction.

Fumi Nikaido could be one of several “Shōgun” stars who go on to earn Emmy nominations for their career-best work in the FX series.
Adapted from James Clavell‘s 1975 historical book of the same name, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks’ limited series follows multiple factions all vying for control over the five Regents in Japan at the end of the 16th century. Meanwhile, a British sailor (Cosmo Jarvis) begins a brand new life after becoming shipwrecked in Japan and entering the service of Hiroyuki Sanada‘s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
Jarvis and Sanada are both competing for lead actor nominations and so, too, is Anna Sawai. Nikaido, meanwhile, is one of several supporting players who are looking for an Emmy citation for their work on the show. This article contains spoilers for Shogun episode 10.
FX miniseries Shōgun has often been compared to Game of Thrones by fans and critics alike. Both shows present political intrigue, sex, and swordplay, all in within a feudal backdrop. Now that Shōgun‘s 10th and finale episode “A Dream of a Dream” has premiered, however, it’s clear that there’s one significant way in which the two TV properties differ: their budgets.
While early seasons of Game of Thrones had to be thrifty with action, once the show proved to be a hit, HBO opened up its ample wallet to fund some of the biggest battle sequences ever seen on television. As more of a one-season experiment (for now at least) Shōgun doesn’t have access to those dollars. The biggest armed conflict presented in the series, the real life Battle of Sekigahara in episode 10, turns up only briefly as Toranaga...

This post contains spoilers for the finale of Shōgun.
Many years ago, when I first finished reading James Clavell’s historical epic Shōgun, I felt slightly puzzled. The novel had taken well over 1000 pages building to a civil war in feudal Japan between the wise Lord Toranaga and his ambitious rival Lord Ishido, and then it stopped right as the war was beginning, offering only the briefest of epilogues detailing what happened next? How was this good storytelling?, I wondered. Maybe there’s a sequel I don’t know about?...

The characters of FX’s Shōgun know all about endings. After John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) experiences the first of many Japanese earthquakes in the miniseries’ fourth episode, his translator/lover Mariko (Anna Sawai) explains how her people have come to adapt to the environmental instability.
“It is why our houses are built to go up as quickly as they come down,” she says. “Because death is in our air. And sea and earth. It can come for us at any moment. Before you meddle with our politics, just remember … we live and we die. We control nothing beyond that.”
While Mariko-sama is right that a person can control nothing beyond living and dying, it turns out that one individual living or dying is enough to change everything. Mariko helped establish the future with her sacrifice in Shōgun‘s penultimate episode. Now it’s...

Game of Thrones throws its audience into the dangerous world of medieval power struggle; and while swords and fire are effective at waging wars, only political moves can prevent them. Lords and ladies of Westeros have been making political marriages for countless centuries, securing alliances and realm peace that way — and just like in the real world, those marriages rarely benefitted the wife.
After marrying a lord, a lady lost her home, family, and even her last name… Except that didn’t happen to every lady. How was Cersei Lannister different from the rest?
Not All Marriages Are Deemed Equal
In the vast majority of cases, a husband’s last name takes over after marriage. Catelyn Tully became Stark after marrying Lord Eddard; her sister Lysa became Arryn after marrying Lord Jon; and so on, and so forth. But there’s one and only case where that doesn’t happen,...

‘Shogun’ Episode 10 Recap & Ending Explained: How Did Toranaga Ensure The Creation Of His Shogunate?
Historically, the most dominant generals have been gifted with astute foresight, adaptability, clarity of vision, unshakable resolve, and the willingness to put everything on the line to achieve success. All of these turn out to be defining character traits of Lord Yoshi Toranaga, who, by the end of the first season of FX’s Shogun, has outplayed every opposition to ensure his future position as the titular leader of Sengoku-era Japan. From setting up the guise of surrender, to using the death of his son and general as the perfect opportunity to distance himself from the Regent Council at Osaka, to finally playing his ace in the form of allowing Mariko to incite unrest among the Regent Council, portraying Ishido as the aggressor, and demeaning his hold in front of Osaka’s nobles, Toranaga has remained way ahead of everyone through his deviously calculative modus operandi. However, even his best...

Avatar: The Legend of Korra and its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender draw a lot from real-world politics for a kid’s show. Dealing with issues like genocide, propaganda, and war, it is not a surprise that the show took inspiration from real-world political figures to talk about the themes it explores in its sequel series, The Legend of Korra.
Amon, from The Legend of Korra
There is a particular reading of the villain for the first season of Legend of Korra that equated him with Joseph Stalin, the leader of the former Ussr. The similarities between their philosophies, which focused on the democratization or eradication of unequal social structures is something that fans have pointed out, with Amon’s goal being towards equality, which manifested in him taking away bending from benders.
Amon’s idea of equality might have had a lot in common with Stalin’s ideas of communism

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Shōgun” Episode 10, “A Dream of a Dream,” including the ending.]
As a sweeping samurai epic, “Shōgun” understands it’s meant to end a certain way. Opposing parties draw swords, don their armor, and square off on the battlefield. Tensions teased over nine hours erupt in the roar of combat. That’s how grand conflicts regarding the future of great nations have been decided for centuries, and it’s only natural for a visual medium like film (or prestige television) to embrace war’s inherent spectacle. Soldiers charging down a hillside, canons firing across an open plain, horses galloping through fields filled with bodies either dead or clinging to life, as the grass under their feet quickly deteriorates into muddied, bloodied slop. These are the scenes we expect in an epic’s ending.
Because we’ve seen those images so many times — slain men strewn over blackened trenches — it’s easy...

Waiting for The Rings of Power season 2 feels a lot like Gandalf and Pippin looking out from Minas Tirith at the approaching fires of Mordor, a deep breath before the plunge. The Rings of Power season 2 wrapped filming last year and is reportedly slated to hit our screens in 2024, but Amazon has yet to announce a proper release date or tease anything from the new season beside vague hints from cast members last summer (like our interview with Morfydd Clark about what’s next for Galadriel). It’s been a long wait, with the last episode of the series airing in 2022.
But fans shouldn’t take the silence surrounding the second season as a sign that Amazon has cooled on its big-budget Lord of the Rings series. In fact, according to reports, the studio and showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne are already whipping up a third season of the show.

The MCU does involve a lot of humor, sometimes unintentionally, but by now you’re aware that there are some comedy gold moments in pretty much most MCU projects, instigated by the same characters.
Fans gathered on Ranker to determine who is the funniest character in the MCU from all movies and shows involved, the top 3 might not surprise you, but everything in between will.
10. Loki
Loki is one of those characters that is unintentionally funny sometimes, his “advanced” wit is lost on other characters, but the funniest bits of his character are his otherworldly machinations. He is also one of the rare characters in the MCU that is involved in both the funniest moments and the most heartbreaking moments. His superpower at this point is sarcasm and malice, so we have that in common.
9. Spider-Man

Chris Pratt faced some very stiff competition to play Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actor perfectly embodies the fun but complex hero in several films across the franchise. However, he faced stiff competition from a talented batch of actors to earn a chance to join the Avengers.
In a franchise that already had several (expertly cast) actors named Chris on the team, he was introduced as the plucky and smart-mouthed Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill) in 2014′s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Since then, he’s stepped out with the team of heroes multiple times, most recently in 2023′s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
While he is now synonymous with the part, we did some digging and rounded up 15 other actors who auditioned for the opportunity. Interestingly, there are even rumors about who were the second and third choices.
Some of his competitors wound up acting alongside Chris in the MCU.

T-minus two years for the release date of the upcoming Project Hail Mary. Amazon MGM Studios has finally set a date for the Ryan Gosling astronaut thriller. Deadline recently reported that the film, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is preparing for launch on March 20, 2026. There are currently no other big titles scheduled for that weekend. Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir are all on board as producers of the film. Drew Goddard wrote the adapted screenplay based on the Andy Weir novel. Weir had also written the novel for The Martian, which served as source material for the Matt Damon film of the same name. Goddard is also set to executive produce with his Goddard Textiles partner Sarah Esberg, along with Ken Kao.
“The movie, filmed for Imax, is based on Weir’s (The Martian) novel and set in the near future.
